Tenele's head turned in the direction of the sound of large feet falling onto the stone floor.
She could just see the large figure as she turned around, his head coming out to snap at Talon. Tenele knew that Vlad's weight in any direction would cause him to fall over and take Talon with him. So she shoved hard, sending both of them to the ground and herself into there position.
The dragaon latched on to her middle. It didn't seem to be biting to kill, like it was only holding her in its mouth to toy with her. Though the teeth peirced her skin enough, along with the fear of being lifted up in a dragon's mouth, she screamed.
Vlad's heavy form had landed on Talon and he rolled the vampire over and off him.
"Put her down!" Talon said, but before he could draw his sword the dragon smacked at him with his claws.

Vlad's eyes slowly regained an understanding of what was going on in front of him, blurry forms focusing into the scene of Tenele in the dragon's jaws and Talon being thrown across the room by a powerful reptilian foot. No, he thought grimly. He sat up where he was near the wall of the tunnel, and gripped it for support as he got back to his feet.
"Like hell I'm letting you fools martyr yourselves over me," he rasped, a determined grin on his face. He still had cards left...after all, he was going to die anyway. It didn't occur to him that he had just actually done something selfless, and that the curse had already quietly left his body. That made little difference in the fact that he had barely enough blood left in his body to do what he was about to try.
"Block stage C, unlocking," he said darkly. He stood under his own weight and shot his arms out to his sides, crimson energy beginning to flow around him. His clothes flapped against his form, blown by a magical current as a black portal opened in front of him. Vlad narrowed his eyes and focused, pouring magic into the spell to keep the portal open long enough. He really looked like a demon, hellish energy swirling around him and his eyes glowing with power. Finally, a powerful beast leapt through the completed gate and out into the hall. Vlad's hellhound landed on the stone floor and turned to him reverantly, a feral shine in his eyes.
Vlad fought for concentration, and poured a mental command to the hound. Destroy the beast before you. And see that the two pathetic humans are unharmed, he ordered it. The huge beast immediately followed its master's command and lunged toward the dragon, latching onto its throat. It's monstrous teeth easily tore the lizard's flesh, raking deep gashes into the tough hide and burrowing in toward the dragonet's jugular. The dragon screamed in surprise and dropped Tenele immediately, turning its focus to battling the hellhound.
Vlad slouched back against the wall, letting it carry all his weight, his entire body visibly shaking with effort. He needed to stay conscious in order to maintain control of the hound...just a few seconds longer. Each heartbeat felt like a spiked club drilling into his raw veins, his body flying into adrenaline as it realized it didn't have enough blood to circulate, let alone function. His lips rose into a crazed grin as he watched his great hound tear into the dragon's flesh... just a few more moments.
* * *
The dragonet chased after Kami and Kaze, it's moements a bit slower than normal; it had hurt its back when it flew into the ceiling. Ahead, a narrow opening in the side of the tunnel presented just enough room for Kaze to squeeze through, but not for the dragonet's hulking body. The small opening actually formed a link to another tunnel; however something seemed to be wrong on the other side of the tunnel as well. Heat from a fire and high screeches as well as fierce canine growling were coming from the other side of the passage.

Kami looked up, saw the stalagmites and looked to the side towards the alcove. He didn't care where it led them, just as long as it was away from the beast. He sprang forward to slip Kaze's unconscious form into the alcove, which fell threw into the other tunnel before Tenele. Kami turned back to face the beast who had stopped to stare him down.
Kami looked up again and focused all his charka on the earth bound stalagmites. His hands move in fluid motions to make the Earth Spirit sign and magic wind currents picked up around him. He closed his eyes in concentration, trying to form the bond with the Earth Spirit.
"Oh Spirit of the Earth," he chanted, "Grant me your power!" Something sparked. In his mind a earthy form materialized into the shape of a strong man.
"What is it you desire upon me?" The Earth Spirit spoke.
"Break the earth above the beast." The Earth Spirit nodded and the stalagmites shook before the crack of them breaking free was heard. Before the Dragonet could register in its mind to move, the stalagmites shot downward and peirced it's leathery armor.
It roared in the agony of its death.

Tenele hit the ground hard, landing on her front. She covered her head as the Hellhound tore away at the Dragon above her. She rolled away and moved quickly away towards Vlad, who must have used the last of his strength to save them...
She knelt down in front of him and put her hadns on his shoulders. He seemed dilerious or either he was really smiling...
She brought her hand away from his moist shoulder to find it covered in a dark substance. He was dying... He wasn't healing or reginerating like he should.
"Vlad, you need blood," she told him. He hadn't eaten... thats why he didn't reginerate because he didn't have enough energy... She touched his face. "Vlad..." she said and looked at him. "If you don't drink blood you'll die... Your bleeding to death."
She looked around, thinking maybe she could drag Nism's body... but he would be to heavy for her and what if he woke up?
No... It would have to be...
"Take mine...." she said softly, looking into his red eyes. She was willing to take the chance of him killing her... "Just... don't kill me," she said with a soft smile...
Tenele's hands went to her blouse and she untied it to loosen it away from her neck... "I don't want you to die..."

Kitanai was clenching his own hands and glanced and Kyosuke distrustfully. "I'll tolerate his presence for now," he replied. "But when we get back to Ongoreth, I expect you to find another bodyguard to replace this barbaric man." He stopped to contemplate something and then began again, "There is a man, Hijikata Soujirou, that is searching for him in order to give him a position in his group, the Kenkakugumi. I... would think that that'd be a... higher and more favorible position for him, as opposed to him serving by your side Shinobu." This last part was said with a bit of warning, as if he was telling her not to force him to do something about it. It also brooked no arguement. "Now, tell me about the ongoings of my land."
Kyosuke, meanwhile, stood there with a grim face, which was oddly out of place on his ususally cheerful face. This was a situation which he couldn't get out of, not without fighting a whole country at least. He didn't even say anything in his own defense, knowing that he had actually defied the way of the samurai in that incident.

Vlad found it difficult to see and hear what Tenele was saying, even though she was right in front of him. The hellhound struck out one more time into the dragon's neck, tearing out bone and windpipe. The dragon tried to bite him, but there was no strength in its jaw. A few moments later, it lay still. The hound trotted back to its master, watching the human he'd been told not to touch.
Vlad looked at Tenele, or tried to. She was loosening her collar, baring her neck. "I don't...you..die," her words could be made out between rushes of numbness in his head. Vlad managed to understand her, but even if he wanted to take her blood, it would not matter; the curse would force any blood he took back out of his system. He was too delirious to comprehend that he'd broken the spell. All the logical networks in his brain seemed to be corrupting or shutting down completely. Still, the words held meaning for him. She didn't want him to die...she was offering her blood, trusting him with her life...the thought was surprisingly important to him. When the hellhound returned from its task, he clenched his eyes and formed the return portal, through which the hound leapt, returning to its own dimension. Leaving it here would allow it to go amock once he was gone. When the beast was gone, the portal shattered chaotically and dispersed.
Vlad looked at the wounds around Tenele's waist, and up into her eyes. "Keep...it," he strained with a weak grin as his heart seemed to crush, and the light went out of his eyes. He fell slack into her arms, unconscious.

"Kaze... Help! HELP!" Ylia's blood stopped cold as she heard the desperation in Kami's voice. He was very close, closer than she knew. It should be easy to find them. Turning to her left, she could hear his muffled words as he spoke to the girl.
Ylia entered the small space where they were. She was not ready for what she saw. Without speaking, she smoothly knelt down beside the duo and gave Kaze a fast look-over.
Her arm looked horrible. "Is she consious?" Ylia asked Kami with a soft, calming voice.
Nickole rushed into the cavern where Tenele was holding Vlad. Her "nightlight" abilities {As Vlad had dubbed them} caused her to be able to find her way around in the dark caves and tunnels.
Rage filled her tiny body when she saw that Vlad was down. Speeding up to them, she slowed only to land on a stalagmite very near Tenele's ear.
"What's wrong with him? I thought we broke the curse. Isn't he supposed to be o.k?" she rushed.

Tenele had to hold him tighter when he went limp in her arms. Her eyes were wide with shock and fear and she couldn't seem to do anything besides stare at the wall behind him.
Talon stirred to conciousness, raising yep and looking towards Tenele, who was holding Vlad in her arms.
Tenele touched the back of his head. "Vlad?" she asked, as her eyes began to wonder around in a panic... "Vlad! Vladmir Dracul answer me!"
There was no answer.
"What's wrong with him? I thought we broke the curse. Isn't he supposed to be o.k?" she rushed.
Tenele didn't even notice the fairy had come fluttering up to her until she spoke.
"I..." Tenele said, leaning Vlad over into her lap to where his head was facing upwards and she could see his face. "He... Its been so long since he had any blood..." She said sadly.
Talon watched his sister and for a moment in the darkness, illuminated by Nickole's light he thought he saw a tear far from her eyes.
Does she really love that vampire? Talon asked himself. Does she really care for him that much?
"Talon," Tenele said, as she reached for something at her boot. "You still know how to heal right?"
Talon nodded as he watched his sister pull a dagger from her boot. "I can't heal the dead. Vlad's dead Tenele... he was dead already... I can't heal him."
"You don't have to heal him," she said hollowly, not expecting him to even want to heal Vlad...
Tenele brought the dagger up to her wrist and slit it open. Then she put her wrist to Vlad's lips and took her other hand opened his mouth...
"Tenele you fool!" Talon yelled as he watch her slit her wrist.
Tenele ignored him.
"Now drink this you arrogant fool," she looked at Vlad's closed eyes. She knew he wasn't dead. Vampires can only die through their heads being cut off, a stake to the heart, and holy magic. Starving to death wasn't a choice for Vlad. Not with her around.

Shinobu stared at the ground the whole time Kitanai talked to her. It wasn't that she was emberassed, it was the fact that if she looked at him she might not be able to keep her mouth shut. She did not need to anger the ruler of her country.
She didn't tell Kitanai whether she would get rid of Kyosuke or not, because she wouldn't. She told him long ago that he could leave at any time, when he got bored or whatever. If Kyosuke wanted to leave then he could and she would not stop him, though she felt she would be very lonely without him.
"Kitanai-sama," she finally said, looking up. "I will not throw Kyosuke away as if he were a broken toy... He will leave when he chooses. If it is now or never it is fine with me..." That was all she said, and she had chosen to say it in the most polite manner.

Nickole's wings fluttered once as she saw Tenele's blood drip onto Vlad's lips. It was all such a mobid picture... Nickole's memory flashed to the beautiful Utopia and the fairys and flowers and sunlight and... she stopped. Someone moved against the opposite wall. Talon! She flew to him and landed near his hand.
There was no need to speak to him. He couldn't help but see her since she was the only source of light in the room. The nightlight... She mourned for Vlad.

Kami kneeled heavily on the ground. He was tired. Using the Earth Spirit's power tired him.
"I she conscious?" Yila asked. She seemed to have come out of nowhere. Kami grunted as he tried to gain back his footing.
"I don't...think so." he said grimly and turned back to them. He started to cry as he saw Kaze's mangled body.
Kaze's heartbeat was slowly fading...

At first, nothing seemed to be changing with Vlad. However, the blood in his mouth began activating instincts. He swallowed, he body thinking on its own. A dull light began returning to his eyes as he drank slowly.
The first thing Vlad saw when he began to regain his senses was a bluish light, which brightened as his vision cleared. "...Nightlight?" he murmured dazedly, getting a strong sense that something was wrong. He knew he shouldn't be alive, and the confused realization that he somehow was anyway was the next thing that hit him. Then the other senses started filtering in, and he could taste the steely sweetness of blood in his mouth, something smooth held against his face.
He focused his eyes more, wondering why...what was going on. He shifted his gaze, and saw Tenele there right above him. His eyes took on a confused look, trying to put it all together. Blood was still running into his mouth from somewhere; he swallowed and stared at her uncertainly.

Kitanai sighed. "We will speak more of this matter later," he said. "For now, just tell me about the ongoings on Ongoreth that were so important that you had to come all the way over to Ighten to tell me." He also shot Kyosuke a look.
Kyosuke noticed the look and was contemplating leaving Shinobu's service. He didn't want to cause her problems with the Shogun just because he wanted to stay. Plus, the prospect of meeting with his old friend Soujirou again was interesting.

The more Tenele's blood flowed into his mouth the more drousy she got. She knew why she was getting so sleepy, because she was losing a good deal of blood from cutting a vital vein. But, Vlad had to live... She needed him.
Vlad drank her blood thankfully, and hopefully he as healing and being made well. Tenele felt her body grow heavier to the point where she felt 400 pounds over weight.
'Just a little while longer...' she thought as her eyes closed. She pulled her hand away quickly when she felt herself want to slip to unconciousness and held it out towards Talon. "T-talon!" was all she could get out.
Talon quickly clamped his hand over her wrist and a bright light came from under his hand. He removed his hands to reveal no cut, but a healed wrist.
Tenele sighed, sitting back up straight and looking at Vlad. She smiled tiredly at him, noting the dim light in his eyes. "If you ever scare me like that again, I'll kill you myself."
* * *
Shinobu lowered her head and then bowed. "I'm sorry if I have been disrespectful to you," she apologised and stood up straight again.
"Shea has been sending... demons... and men to throw Ongoreth into chaos. Nobles have been assassinated or driven from there lands and it has thrown there people into confusion... A man came for my lands... He tried to kidnap me... and almost killed me... He was known as a Raith and he could change into any form he desired. The only reason he did not succeed in taking me was because of Kyosuke. He said there are more of his kind out in Ongoreth, tricking people and killing them... and that Shea would soon be making an attack on our homeland."
A memory came back to her...
"My, what a beautiful lady you are..." he said and smiled and Shinobu swallowed very hard. "Oh, forgive my boldness m'lady... I am not from around here. I'm from the main land here looking over things as an ambassador and I was told by your house that the Lady... was some where around here...." "I have come to offer my services and protect you."
"He offered to protect me, but when I refused he continued to come back and ask... and refused each time. That's when he grew hostile... But, he did tell me a good number of things. Like Shea is trying to pit clans against eachother to throw our homeland into chaos. Its working..." Shinobu glanced up at the Shogun, her redish colored brown eyes met his for a moment.
Was he changed any? Did he still keep that offer to protect her? To help her? Or had she lost favor in him when he realized she trusted Kyosuke and did not want him to leave?

Vlad perceived Tenele's face looking more and more tired, until the change was so undeniable that he knew something had to be wrong, though he couldn't place what. It wasn't until she pulled her wrist away from his mouth - her wrist - and had submitted it to Talon's healing magic that he abruptly realized what had happened.
"If you ever scare me like that again, I'll kill you myself."
New energy came into his eyes and muscles as she spoke. Suddenly he jerked to sit up, lightheaded as he moved but really conscious now, and grasped her wrists, turning them palm-up and looking at them with a fiery glow back in his eyes.
