Soran nodded at the first remark, and rewarded the second with a cold glance. The injured were not at peace. She was wounded, not just sleeping, and her wounds were beyond his comprehehension to fix. He didn't like that.
"I've asked the others to get some rest. I need to do likewise, for a short time. Can you lift her to the center of the group where it's safe?" he asked as politely as he could. He wanted to move her himself, but he just didn't trust his legs much longer. The two nurses nodded obediently, one of them still daring to look just a bit worried about him. He let it slide.
A few minutes later, Soran, Mizuki and Rai were lying near each other toward the inside of the ring of survivors. Some kept guard, and the fighters stayed at the outside in case they were needed. It was the best they could afford. Soran lay on his side with Rai tucked against his chest, watching Mizuki quietly. The whole clearing was silent, but he knew most of them were awake, suffering or worrying. He couldn't afford to do that. He needed to be strong when dawn broke. He looked down at Rai, wondering if he should stay awake to comfort her for a while. "Try to sleep," he told her quietly. He didn't feel quite right, like he was talking through someone else's lips. Then he closed his eyes and let sleep take him.
His body grew warmer in the night, a thin sweat beading on his face.

The night crept on without much disturbance besides the people's nervousness. They jumped at sounds that deemed threatening to them but were really harmless. Many slept, or mourned while the few stood guard. As dawn light seeped through the forest trees, Mizuki's eyes fluttered open. Taking in her surroundings and remembering in blurry images of the events past, Mizuki grimaced as she attempted to sit up. Her limbs were sore, her mind ached from the over use of magic. She felt like a hangover victim.
She groaned to herself as she held her head in her hands.

Soran stirred quietly as he picked up on movement next to him and raised his eyes up to look at Mizuki. She blurred, then reformed into a solid form in his eyes. She seemed to be in pain. He saw one of her hands on the ground near him and touched it with his, a protective spark in his bleary eyes. He wasn't used to being this groggy when he woke up. In fact, every muscle in his body felt just a bit sore. Had Mizuki been an enemy, he'd have died where he laid.
Around the camp, some had already woken. A small group had gone to the near vicinity to gather distasteful but edible plants that grew in abundance here. They were busy mashing them into a pastey substance and seasoning them with an orange berry that was known to be salty. Salt tended to cover most tastes. It was better than no food at all. Someone had had the foresight to forbid them to prepare anything cooked. Building a fire in the woods would give their location away easily in the encroaching daylight.
Soran glanced past, and saw who had told them. Sid was sitting awake, chatting up some of the women who had offered to cook. Soran wasn't sure, but it certainly looked like Sid was flirting with them. The rogue didn't want to know at the moment. He flicked his eyes back to Mizuki searchingly, not pushing for an explanation but feeling she would offer one.

She felt Soran's touch upon her hand and instinctively grasped it. She lay her head on his shoulder looking for some comfort, even though that seemed impossible. She looked around that camp, not saying a word until her eyes rested upon Sid, laughing gaily with the women.
Fury burned in her eyes. Had her legs not been so weak she would have leaped to her feet and attacked the man.
"Why is he here?" she croaked through a dry throat, clearly angry but to damn tired to do anything about it.

Soran shook his head, curling her into his arms. “I’m not vouching for his sense of judgment, but he was trying to save my life,” he told her, his voice barely a murmur. “Even if it was false, there was a time when he was the only friend I knew. And right now, he may be our only resource on what Arken is trying to do. I am not a fan either, but I think he poses less threat by our side than otherwise.”
It wasn’t spoken like a strict decision. He just wanted her to understand what he’d been thinking when he stopped himself from killing Sid the night before. Of course, there may have been more to it than what he was telling her, but he wasn’t willing to say he cared about Sid to himself, let alone Mizuki.
OOC: Work is boring!!!!

Mizuki regarded Soran's words, mostly because she had no other choice in the matter. Later she'd pummel the shit out of Sid. As if she had decided that the subject of Sid was no longer important, Mizuki looked up at him.
"Are you alright?" her concern practically shinning through her eyes, like she hadn't been angry moments ago.

A groan escaped Mizuki as began her long procession of what ailed her. "I'm sore everywhere, my throat is dry like the desert, I ache in mind and body, my head is pounding..." She paused and looked up at Soran, a small smile played at her lips. The small seemed to have lifted the fatigue from her body, causing her to look more beautiful than haggard.
"But I guess it was worth it to run my body into the ground for you." She smiled more, just momentarily before her fatigue caught up with her again and made the smile disappear off her face, but the light hadn't gone from her eyes. She was so happy to know that her efforts to save Soran hadn't gone to waste. And Rai looked alright as well... Mizuki sighed contently.

Soran's jade eyes were concerned as she spoke, and a bit guilty. Even as her smile warmed his soul, he just couldn't bring himself to smile back. There was a lifetime's work to do today, and he already only felt 40 percent, at best. He wanted to lie there holding his family and pretend the world wasn't after them.
The faint sounds of leaves being disrupted off to their left made Soran tense and look that way. A lot more had joined them in the night; they might even all be here now. Soran was amazed he'd slept through it. But they were asleep, and something awake was making the noise. Probably someone gathering food, but...
"Somebody's over there," he whispered for Mizuki's sake. He was sorely tempted to give it the benefit of the doubt and remain where he lay for a bit longer. They had sentinels; surely someone would notice an enemy approaching.

Mizuki looked in the direction Soran indicated, but for the life of her she couldn't find the source of his worry. Maybe if she... No, she had no idea if her powers were even back yet, she might kill herself or put herself in a coma if she attempted. Well, at least this is what she thought would happen, her head hurt too much to think clearly.

Soran looked around. The few who were awake were joking calmly with Sid over by the food. Probably thinking that as long as they were awake, trouble would knock first. The rogue bit back irritation and a desire to scold them across the clearing. Sid at least should have known better, but he had a tendency to be too laid back. If Soran shouted at him now, though, and there was an enemy coming, he would flee before htey could track him down. Soran glanced at Mizuki, touching her shoulder as if to explain what he was doing, and stood up silently.
A wave of sore dizziness washed over him. Not enough to floor him, not enough to stop him. He summoned his blades and moved stealthily toward the direction of the sound, across the sleeping refugees and into the trees beyond. A sudden scuffling of feet. Someone was running. At the top of his lungs, Soran shouted out "Everyone up!" More footsteps broke beside him. "I need runners!" he roared, breaking into a sprint through the trees after the spies. With the way he felt, he didn't feel like he could catch them, but he could sure as hell make enough noise for some of their hunters to catch up and conquer the task.

The flurry of panic began to wash over Mizuki and the others who were hurrying about in confusing. Many sprang up without really thinking about why to follow after what Soran pursued. 'Damn,' Mizuki thought as she struggled to her feet. Many of the women protested her getting up but she shrugged them off. Grounding her teeth she gave them the order to watch Rai and keep safe.
Mizuki sprinted forward, stumbling slightly in her sore daze, but she still managed to keep a steady pace after Soran and the others. She had no idea why she was following, these men could take care of it, right? The unsureness of her thoughts made her uneasy. Too many of them were plauged with fatigue, and she had a dreading feeling. Her powers were still frazzled, so concentrating on the what and why was out of the question. She just needed to follow, to know they were alright and to.... guide them.
She was coming up besides Soran, when it counted she could really run.

Soran glanced over at Mizuki as she came abreast of him, surprised for a moment to see her, but he couldn't spare any words. Considering how briefly he'd been running, he was thoroughly winded, and his face glowed with an unhealthy flush. The 6 or so men who had risen to the occassion were now passing him, picking up on the sound of footsteps and following without Soran's help. When he realized he wasn't going to be able to keep up, Soran loped heavily to a stop and leaned his elbow against a tree for support. Behind them at the camp, people were shouting. Soran wondered if they were just preparing to move the camp as they should be, or if more trouble had come up behind them.
Mizuki stopped with Soran, panting and heaving, but oddly exillerated. She looked back towards the camp and soon regretted her decision to have followed. But then, would it have mattered if she was there or not? The panic and worry peeled at her face as she breathlessly cried out Rai's name and headed back.
