Her eyes fluttered and rolled in response to Soran's voice. "I did too much...." said responded finally closing her eyes and smiling weakly. She felt that Soran would understand... then again, maybe he wouldn't. Her hands were resting lifelessly on Rai. She wasn't pale like she was dying, in fact Mizuki felt warm. She was just so tired, mentally and physically. Her mind kept saying something...

Stay awake... Don't sleep...wake up....stay......awake...

"Stay...awake..." she whispered before her head lopped over to the side. She was still breathing, she wasn't dead.

Soran caught Mizuki and drew her against him, wide-eyed with concern. He had seen her like this, and that look in her eyes, before. She must have used her powers again for...something. "She's alright," he told Sid tensely. "Take Rai...please," he gestured toward the girl sleeping in Mizuki's lap.

Sid came forward and gently extracted the child from the couch, lifting her up. Soran took Mizuki's unconscious form and shifted her gently sideways, positioning her back into the pillows so that she lay across the couch. He touched her face gently while his other hand rested across her waist.

Sid watched, impressed and a bit jealous. Soran really had come to care about these people. He had never seen the elf act so kindly before.

Mizuki slept, in a sense recharging herself. She was in no danger, she just didn't want to sleep. It was so dangerous for her to sleep like this. Until her body was ready to function again, she wouldn't wake. In her dreams she hoped that nothing truely bad would take place and Soran need her.

Soran felt Mizuki's pulse and the temperature on her forehead, unable to see anything wrong with her. He looked over at Sid coldly. "What happened? I was only gone for a minute, and you were the only one here," he accused.

"I didn't do a thing to her. She was talking about your...memories, and then she was out."

"Nothing strange happened?" Soran asked.

"Nothing. There was this weird feeling in the air for a second, but that was it."

"What kind of feeling?"

"A weird one!" Sid snapped, exasperated. "For gods' sakes, I didn't hurt your wife."

"Wife?" Soran said reflexively, still shocked by that term. He moved to correct it, but Sid's expression said he'd already caught on that something was strange.

"Yeah. Your wife. At least I'd hope she'd be, after raising a kid this old," he gestured to Rai sleeping in his arms. "I know you're not huge on commitment, but goign that long is a bit obsessive even for you," he said.

Soran shook his head. "Rai is not our child."

"You said she was your daughter."

"She is my daughter. She is not my child." Soran shook his head as if he were exhausted by the explanation.

Sid just accepted it, actually thinking he understood. Rai had been adopted. So his theory that Soran had married immediately after leaving was wrong. More must have happened in between. He wanted to ask about it, but when he looked back, the elf was kneeling next to Mizuki and staring at her so quietly and with such a look of unmasked concern on his face that Sid didn't know what to say. Luckily, Soran spoke first.

"Put Rai upstairs. Her bedroom is on the right," Soran told him.

"It's been a long time since you could give me orders," Sid challenged.

Soran just glanced at him firmly. Sid puzzled at this, but shrugged and stood up, carrying Rai up the stairs obediently. Following orders from Rhen still felt like instinct to him; like his proper place. Something about his charisma that was demanding without ever being condescending made him attractive to obey.

Soran had already looked back to Mizuki, like he knew for certain that the task he requested would be carried out. The elf took her hand in his on her chest, watching her intently.

Mizuki slept dreamingly on. Ten minutes past and Soran was still sitting idly in the room. Soran watching Mizuki sleep on intently and Sid just upstairs keeping an eye on Rai, or just trying to think without running the risk of being hammered by Soran. Mizuki's eyelids twitched and fluttered, opening her brown eyes back to the world.

"Ahh," she moaned groggily and moved her hand that Soran was clutching across her breast, still too tired to register reality, causing his hand to also brush against her breast.

Rai blinked her eyes open. "Woah," she giggled. "I fell a sleep! Didn't even know I was that tired!" She looked up at Sid's face. "Hello!" she said, having taken a ten minute power nap she was rearing to go!

Sid smiled at Rai's words. She was a spirited one. It was hard to believe such a girl had wound up with Rhen. "Hey there," he said in a friendly voice. "It must have been a very busy day at school for you to fall asleep."

Soran tightened his grip on Mizuki's hand slightly, relief spilling onto his previously stone-masked face. He didn't even think about where his hand was at the moment. He took his other hand and touched her forehead lightly. "Mizuki," he whispered, as if she might have some kind of terrible headache and talking too loud would pain her. "Are you well?"

"MMmmm, fine." she said without really thinking. As she woke up more she remembered why she had slept. Sitting up, she looked at Soran smiling half heartedly. "I guess I used too much of my power by accident. How long have I been out?"

"Oh it was!" Rai said and laughed slightly. "Too many games!" She said it as if it were horrible to assume that there were too many games.

"About ten minutes," Soran said as if she had been in a coma for 8 years. "What powers were you trying to use?" He didn't trust magic; it had hurt him before, and now he was afraid Mizuki's own magic would hurt her.

"If there's one thing I know," Sid said heartily, "It's that you can never have too many games."

Mizuki blinked in surprise. She thought it'd be longer, it normally was. "Strange," she said to herself.

"What powers were you trying to use?"

She looked up at him, looking him straight in the eyes. His green eyes never wavered. "I think I was trying to break Sid's mind in half." she said truthfully. "But, I don't have that kind of power...so I exhausted myself trying."

"Yeah, when your right! You're right!" she said and laughed. "Hey, where are mommy and daddy?" she asked softly. "Did they go and get naked under the covers again!" she giggled. "I don't know why they did that! Its silly!!!! It was funny! They were all like, GASP!!!" She made a move like she was pulling covers to her. She giggled. "Then the second time I walked in I think Daddy was trying to take mommy's shirt off... and then he was like, uh ohhh... and hid mommy. It was funny too! Why did they do that?"

Soran blinked. "In...half?" He didn't normally think of Mizuki as the type to do something so violent, and wondered where such an urge had been inspired. "Why?"

She watched him calmly, trying to see his reaction clearly. "I guess I felt angry, he made you angry and... I got angry..." She felt like she was confessing a big secret to him, and flushed under his hard gaze.

Soran listened, thinking back over what he'd said. He hadn't forgotten; it had sounded wrong as soon as it left his throat and he wasn't sure how to make it right. He didn't trust love...but he trusted Mizuki, didn't he? Yes, he did. Had that made her so angry with Sid? "I'm sorry," he said somberly, taking her hand in both of his and bowing his head slightly out of her view. "I didn't mean-...I mean, I don't-...I do trust-" he broke off as the sound of deep, rumbling laughter spilled down the stairs. He looked sharply toward the second floor, wondering what the heck was being discussed up there.

"Hohoho!!!" Sid laughed so hard he had to grasp his stomach and sit down. "Is that what they were doing?" he said between laughter. He could so see Rhen behaving exactly as Rai had described, and the very concept of him being sexually intimate with someone was somehow so strange and unbelievable that it tickled him absolutely pink. "I'm sure they'll explain that one to you in a few years," he managed to squeeze breath for a semi-real answer.
