So, my girlfriend and I decided 2008 was the year when we got off our flabby butts and got healthy. We've made some drastic changes to our diets, like not eating out, eating low-fat/calorie meals, and so on. Probably the biggest change to get used to at this point is cutting out soft drinks completely. Now, understand that we were Pepsi junkies. It was our regular thing to grab a can each as soon as we got home from work and relax in front of the tube...now it's water. Just water. Sometimes flavoured water, but water all the same. No pepsi. At all.
It's bad enough that I'm craving pepsi like a junkie craves heroin, but it's the sudden lack of caffeine that's causing no end of problems. I find myself walking around work in a half-asleep state. I can't seem to wake up. It's driving me nuts.
I thought of switching to coffee, but I don't know the calorie content of a standard cup...plus it'll get expensive, because I only like Tim Horton's coffee (I live in Canada, where there's a Timmie's on literally every corner). Maybe I should just switch to eating raw coffee beans.
Off Soft Drinks and Going Caffeine Crazy
Oh boy, me and my boyfriend are attempting to accomplish the same thing. It's hard though when his taste buds are super sensitive to vegetables so he'll really only eat broccoli and corn willingly... and potatoes.
I was never really a coffee drinker, but when I did have it it was in the effin large cups from Dunkin' Doughnuts and it was iced coffee with like, a significant layer of caramel not so well mixed in at the bottom. After several cups of that stuff almost every time I went to work... I began to twitch.
I can no longer drink coffee.... o_o
So my advice is that when you do drink coffee: get decaf, and NOT A LARGE.
Other than that water is the better choice, flavored or not. And you guys get a HOORAH from me by changing your bad habits. Good for you! ^_~

I think my body is slowly starting to adjust to life without caffeine and sugar. I managed make it through work tonight without nodding off once
This no soft drink thing is gonna take a little getting used to, however. I'll have to check out the diet soft drinks...Shweppes ginger ale uses Splenda. I'll have to check the calorie content...
Maybe I can sneak a can once in a while.

Good luck. Great decision. I hope you adapt quickly. Feeling tired sux. ><
If you want you can read part one of my weight loss journey. (Part 2 is underway and ends hopefully at the end of this year) XD
Part one.
Around the time I started Heirot I was in the 8th grade at 185 pounds, 5' 3" and over 30% body fat. I hated it. I had pains all over my body and tightness in my chest it felt like I was dying sometimes. I wanted to change but I was too lazy and apathetic. At that time I ate lots of sweets between meals, lots of soda pop and I walked a few times a day. I had a paper route so I walked a mile a day but it didn't help that I bought junk food while on my route. Anyways, I started working out every evening but saw no changes. Finally after about a year I stopped doing that (It was 100 crunches a night). The summer before I entered high school my older sister asked me to look down and try to see if I could see my feet. I couldn't. T-T I knew then something had to change, but how?
I got interested in Karate but I didn't end up going until my Sophmore year and dropped a size within the 6 months that my parents could pay for. In my junior/senior year (I took them together) I fell in love with someone and decided to change to be more comfortable around him(He was fit). So I joined a weight training class and dropped another size.
I have no idea exactly when I stopped drinking soda and eating candy bars but I'm glad I did. I started replacing the soda I had previously been drinking with green tea, juice and water. Then I noticed that I wasn't drinking juice either. Sometime during this journey I started refusing to eat hamburgers, hot dogs and pizza too. I've never felt better.
I graduated high school in 2007 at 180(Replaced fat with muscle) and 27% body fat. A huge difference for me and described as 'some weight' for the friends I hadn't seen in years. I went to Japan in October of 2006 and I was the biggest person in that family as well.
On the 4th of this month my mom bought 2 exercise games and starting today I am using them both. One in the morning, one in the evening and walking at noon and after school. Also I'm on a 1200 calorie diet but I kinda cheated a bit so I'm making up for it. XD
For the future I hope to be in the smallest size I can (Likely 8) be by next christmas/new years time. But for now I'm just going to try to fit into the size 13's I just bought by the end of this month. I believe I can do it.
I wish you luck with your fitness goal. I'll be rooting for you!

It's funny how you don't realize what you're doing until you really take the time to have a good gander at yourself, isn't it?
I've always been overweight, but it's really only been the past couple of years that I seemed to let myself go. We just bought a scale (in prep for our weight loss journey) and weighed myself for the first time in years...I was 318 lbs(!!!) Now, I'm over 6' tall and heavy-boned, so I managed to pull it off without looking like a complete blob, but it was shocking nonetheless. My doc says I should be walking around at about 200 lbs for someone with my height and natural build....So, it's low-fat, low-calorie, low-carb for me. Once I get down to an acceptable weight, I'll add more carbs because I plan to get toned up a bit with some weight training. For now I'm just concentrating on losing the weight.
Thanks for the words of encouragement, Amenat...and good luck with your journey as well!
