Well, it makes sense, sort of, if you know Norse Mythology,
here's the lowdown.
Loki, god of chaos (aka ME!!) had three children.
first son: the Serpent Jormungyndr, or something like that. Supposedly he encircled the world of Midgard and bit his own tail to keep from devouring everything and encuring Odin's wrath. I have always had a thing for snakes.
Second son: the wolf Lord Fenrir, the white wolf who blew blizzards and stuff like that.
Only daughter: Hel, goddess of death, supposedly she was half dead herself, the other half was the classic old unimaginable beauty that all goddessess seem to possess. Since you have received your power from me, it is akin to me being your father.
*goes to corner, puts on big black armor and a big black helmet with a gas-mask type mouthpiece*
"Cssshhhhhh Shhhkt, Cssshhhhhh Shhhkt, Meagan, I am your father! Cssshhhhhh Shhhkt, Cssshhhhhh Shhhkt."
Theology 101:
The name Hel (one L), is where the Christians and Catholics derived their word Hell (two Ls) from, as Hel was the goddess of death and ruler of the underworld. This relating of their mythology to Paganism made early conversion easier, similar to how the prophet Mohhamad named his god Allah after the popular Pagan Moon God Allah, hence why the Muslem symbol is the crescent moon. I think about the Muslim stuff, I haven't actually researched Islam as extensively as I have Christianity.

Most European swords are straight swords with cross stemming guards. Why? well, when the Crusaders were making their gear, they put the Cross on everythign they could, from their shield, to the visor for their helmets. if you hold a sword and put it blade downwards, it makes a cross, thus ensuring that the Crusaders always ahd a crucifix to swear on and ask god for help with. The Muslims did the same thing, the Arrabc sword, more popularly called the Scimitar, is curved and shaped like a crescent moon. The Japanese swords don't derive from anything other than flat out evfficiency, as their slightly curved edge allows them to easily glide accross their enemies, thus increasing the damage done, whereas a European sword (straight blade) would often get stuck in the enemy if one simply choped, thus making close quarters fighting more difficult.
