Lore: Finding Home...

This is the Border that most of the people in Arken want to cross. People in Ighten are not allowed to cross it unless under orders by the Queen herself. The mountain is always covered in snow.

Mizuki's eyed lids drooped lazily, but not from tiredness. She had understood his words mentally, but apparently not physically because she was now walking over to him and she kneeled down next to his head. Gently, she picked up his head from his arm and placed it on her lap. Then, she stroked his hair repeatedly, gently...

"Sleep...." she whispered lovingly, like a mother to her child.

Soran tensed as Mizuki lifted his head into her lap, looking straight ahead. He allowed his neck to rest back down onto the softness of her lap, blinking uncomfortably. He willed his eyes closed again, though his thoughts were still churning, and then felt smooth fingers running through his hair. It tickled little, and his first reaction was to spring back to his feet and claim the first shift for himself, after all. But, her hands were gentle, and part of him did not want break the contact for anything, awkward or not. He clenched his eyes and compelled himself to relax, slowly feeling his taut muscles ease again and sleep climb back in on him. After about ten minutes, he was finally out, breathing softly against her thigh as he slept.

Mizuki smiled as she felt him relax and she listened to his soft breathing. Even though she was supposed to keep watch... she also knew that they were completely safe and away from harm, oddly enough. Impulsivly, she leaned down and kissed his forehead. When she straightened her back she listened to the sounds of the forest around them, and the soft crackling of the fire.

It was strange, the feeling of safeness. It was almost foreign to her considering all that had happened. Mizuki sighed contently and kept running her fingers through Soran's dark hair. She smirked as she knew that this was one of the rare times he ever let his guard down, and she had that moment all to herself...

OOC: I'm guessing this is the kind of thing the black magic is capable of causing, but if it's not, let me know and I'll amend it!

IC:

In the depth of the blackness in his sleeping mind, something strange was affecting Soran. Images began to form - images of himself, and Mizuki, resting together on a riverbank, though it was not the same river that had been at Gwendolyn's village. There was a vague sense of knowledge that Siren and Rai were nearby with Blade. The time of day, weather, and season were all unclear; all he was conscious of was her form against his and the sense of security that permeated everything. He felt safe - so safe that it ached in a way he couldn't comprehend.

Then, too soon, the mood began to change. Something was wrong, but he didn't know what. He looked up at Mizuki to find her face streaked with tears, blood trailing from the corner of her mouth. Worst of all was the look in her eyes - one of fear and utter hatred. The look did not confuse him; he was somehow certain that he'd earned it, but the details evaded him.

Mizuki now held a large knife, which was aimed at him with deadly intention. She was screaming something at him, but the words made no sense except that they were angry and accusatory. In the realm of his dream, however, the rant was quite comprehensible. The blade came flying at him, and he had to dodge. He called for his blades, but though they formed, they grew into his arms rather than along them, tearing his flesh as he drew against her. He stared at her, trained on her eyes, strangely unable to control his movements. She was attacking. In a flash of red light, the dagger plunged into his unguarded waist. He doubled back and, reacting instinctively, struck out at her neck with deadly intent....

"Hhhhh" Soran sucked in an alarmed breath as his eyes flew open and he shot upright. He grasped his side where he'd just been 'stabbed' and looked down at it, but there was nothing there but the old familiar scar that had been there since he could remember. Had he been dreaming? Him? Was that what a dream was...? It seemed impossible. Dreadingly, he spun to look at Mizuki, who showed no signs of having received the blow he'd been about to deliver.

He opened his mouth, but had no words to convey what he was experiencing. "Mizuki," he said in disbelief, frowning as he heard his own voice shake. He looked hard into her eyes, knowing he had just seen something imaginary, but still haunted by its vividness.

"Mizuki,"

Mizuki's eyes blinked open. She had closed her eyes just for a moments as she rested with her hands against Soran's face. She looked at him with concern because his eyes looked wild with...something. Fear? was it?

"Soran what's wrong?" she asked him calmly, but with a motherly tone. Instincivly she wrapped her arms around him and held him against her chest. "Did you dream?"

The rogue tensely accepted her embrace, pondering the phantom pain he still thought he felt in his side. No, that had been too real to be a dream. What was it, then? "I don't dream," he asserted firmly, resting his chin on her shoulder. He felt warmth radiating onto his cheek from the neck he'd been about to slash a moment before. "I don't feel like sleeping, so leave watch to me," he proposed.

"You don't dream?" Mizuki questioned. She knew it was a lie but she didn't press it. Instinctivly, she kissed his cheek and hugged him tighter before letting go. Her eyes shined with a love that she normaly tried to hide for the sake of Soran's comfort.

Smiling, Mizuki stood and streched out her legs and arms. "Well, if you insist but..." she winked at him, "Don't hesitate to come get me if something happens, k?"

"Alright," Soran confirmed, watching her guardingly as she returned to the tent. He leaned forward on his knee, touching his cheek where Mizuki had kissed him with one hand before resting it across his leg. Before she'd left, her eyes had practically glowed with warmth - nothing like the scowl of hatred he'd witnessed before. There was no way what he'd seen could be real. But, in truth, he really didn't dream. Never, in all the time he could remember. A fleeting shadow of mixed hope and dread cross his thoughts...if he could dream, maybe that meant his memories were returning. He pushed those thoughts aside and focused on keeping watch.

Mizuki entered her tent and lay down next to her son quietly so not to disturb him. Getting comfortably in the bedroll, she draped her arm over Blade protectivly and closed her eyes. She made a silent prayer in her head that Soran would be alright out there and they wouldn't come under attack, then she drifted into sleep.

Hours later, Soran rested with his back to the fire, watching the first hints of sunlight color the sky through the canopy of leaves above him. He hadn't had any more strange experiences, and the night had passed without incident. He felt tired, but alert as he calmly observed the changing hues of light enter the forest.

The horses pawed the earth eagerly from the corner of the camp, and one nickered softly to him with imploring brown eyes. The rogue got to his feet and went to the animals, unstrapping a pack of feed from one of the saddlebags and holding it up for the palomino to eat. The two bay mares nickered anxiously, eager for their turns as well. Soran leaned back against a tree (coincidentally, the tree Siren was perched in) sleepily while the horse ate from the pouch he held up.

Siren groaned lightly as a streak of light made its way across her eyes and a pair of birds landed on her branch, twittering gayly in the crispness of the morning. She smiled at them and made a slight twittering noise back. They seemed to stare at her incredulously for a moment before dissregarding her and flying away.

"bah," she muttered, stretching out her limbs and glancing around the campsite. She saw Soran below her with the horses and grinned evily. She crouched in a feral attack position from her branch, intending to swoop down on him and hope he didn't kill her in response.

She jumped downward from the branch, wings unfurled to slow her decent somewhat, but her toe caught on a offshoot and she tumbled downwards with a yelp, barely managing to catch a branch six feet off the ground to slow her a bit and landed unceremoniously on her rump.

Soran looked up sharply as he heard something crashing toward him to find Siren flailing downward. She landed next to him, startling the horses so that they skitted away nervously. The rogue blinked at her, an amused grin cracking his lips. "For a creature of the sky, you're clumsy with heights," he teased with a sense of humor that had only recently begun to show through, offering her a hand up.

"Owwww!" Siren whined, rubbing her rump. She looked up at the offered hand and the target she had missed, grinning at her.

She pouted a moment, then reached her own arm up to grasp his wrist so he could pull her up.

"It must be because of the horseback riding," she muttered, trying to make an excuse for herself. She was well aware by the heat radiating from her cheeks how red her face was.

Soran pulled the angel to her feet so that they were face to face for an instant, and he did not miss the flame in her cheeks. "You're not hurt?" he asked, his usual serious demeanor resuming authority.

"Only my pride," she replied, shaking her head. She decided against telling him what had spurred the rapid decent.

"Anyone else awake yet? I'd guess the sun's rays won't be waking any of them while they're in that tent."
