LORE: The Reluctant Damsel and the Dysfunctional Hero

The city closest to the border. It is a city filled with traveling people and inns that hold many of the roughest people in Ighten. It's a good place to find weapons and an even better place to find trouble.

Tenele smiled softly at him and took the roll from the top of her head. She inspected it and then took a bite. It was rather good and she ate the roll rather quickly.

"You need to eat too you know," she said idly, taking a sip of water.

"I'll be fine," Vlad chuckled as he sat next to her and lay back into the mattress with his arms folded casually behind his head. She was right...he was hungry. He wondered idly why he didn't want to leave, and chalked it up to laziness. He took the remaining roll and amused himself by throwing it at the back of Tenele's head, letting it bounce back to him.

Tenele turned around, and leaned over the bed at him. "Hey!" she said with a smile. "You know, you shouldn't throw things at me. I might get violent." She snatched the roll away from him and grinned, leaning on her hand and looking down at him.

She took a bite of the roll, not noticing her much her arm was quivering under her weight.

"Oh, my heart goes cold," he purred iwth a sarcastic grin, reaching up and drawing her down to him so that she lay against his chest. "You know, it's a bad idea to lust after vampires. We sometimes lust back," he murmured playfully into her ear.

Tenele grinned at his words. Vlad lusted for her? For a strange reason that made her flush slightly. "Oh? Is that so?" she asked, her green eyes sparkling. "Well, I don't exactly see how that can be a bad thing. I thought lust came naturally to vampires. After all its legend that you have alluring aura's around you."

She put the last bite of roll in her mouth, happy to have had something to fill her stomach at least for the moment.

She stared at his red eyes for a moment before she kissed him.

Vlad accepted her kiss, returning it twofold as he dove into the sensation. He thought she may be right, that vampires were erotic by nature, but he was also aware that something was different with this girl. The flames in his loins burned a different color from ordinary desire as her body pressed into his. He began moving his lips along the curve of her jaw, knowing exactly where to apply pressure, tracing open-mouthed kisses at the base of her ear and down her neck.

There, a sudden urge made him freeze. The warm ember of his desire had suddenly been choked by a different flame; the last one he wanted to think about at the moment. Longingly, his front teeth lightly grazed her soft neck before he made himself pull away. He took a deep, steadying breath, still awash with sensation. "I must be going," he said charmingly, "It seems you're too much for me." He grinned.

Tenele closed her eyes as his lips moved across he jaw and as he grew closer to her neck she tilted her head slightly, her silvery silk hair falling away and exposing her pale flesh. She gasped a little at the feel of his sharp teeth graze over her neck.

Thoughts passed through her mind of worry. She knew Vladimir was terribly hungry and she had told him to go eat numerous times already. She hoped he didn't get to carried away with his blood lust and drain her of what little blood she had left.

He took a deep, steadying breath, still awash with sensation. "I must be going," he said charmingly, "It seems you're too much for me." He grinned.

"Hmph." She smirked sitting up. "Go eat you hard headed vampire. I'll just be lazy and go back to sleep. Well, maybe I'll go get that bath I was talking about earlier..."

Kami and Kaze sat at a table with their food and began to eat silently. They had seen Vlad and Talon, but sensed the tension between them. So they left them alone.

"So..uh.." Kaze started, "How did we sleep together?" Kami smirked. He knew the truth, but didn't want to tell Kaze she had started to cry in her sleep, so he lied.

"We got smashed and I just we just collapsed on the same bed." That was the best he could come up with. Kaze raised an eyebrow at him, but she let it pass.

"As you wish," Vlad said approvingly, rising to his feet. "Don't be too sad without me," he comforted emphatically, and disappeared from the room.
Appearing on the ground outside, he threw his focus toward his senses of smell and hearing and began walking into Hepian's red-light district, keeping an eye out for appropriate prey. He had to use strong willpower to refrain from taking the first people he happened to pass on the street; self control had come astonishingly well around Tenele, but these other people...each carefree civilian that passed him had no idea he was visualizing driving his fangs into their necks.

Finally, he heard what he'd been not-so-patiently awaiting; the sounds of a scuffle down the next alley. He was on site on the roof above it in no time, looking down at what appeared to be a breakout between two rival gangs. One side was arguing about the failure to deliver some sort of purchase they'd made, and the other contested that the 'market' had changed since the time of the deal, and the price had risen. One man at the back of the latter group was holding on to a young woman with her arms cuffed behind her, watching the argument with humiliation in her face. It became clear soon enough that she was the merchandise under debate. They kept on arguing back and forth about the price, the agreed date, and the questionability of the merchandise's 'freshness', until Vlad finally lunged down, landing smack in the center of the noisy debate and throwing up a ring of smoke onto the gaping men. "Sorry to interrupt, but your prattling was about to bore me to tears. That and I'm somewhat worse for wear this evening. Still a handsome devil, of course," he added, throwing a cunning smile at the bound woman. When the men simply stared at him in confusion, one of them stammering something unintelligible, Vlad arched his eyebrows in boredom. "Let's just get down to it, then," he smirked darkly, and launched into the nearest of the men, driving his teeth into the neck and drinking freely until a corpse stood in his grip. The others stared in astonishment, looking at each other uneasily.

"Don't come any closer!" shouted the one holding the woman, pulling a knife on her throat, nervous.

Vlad looked at him with a sadistically amused glow in his eyes, and burst into motion.

Half an hour later, Vlad walked back toward the hotel well sated. A bloodbath lay in the alley behind him, save for the woman who had fainted out of terror of him. Tenele was unusually brave for her species and gender in the face of his culinary habits. He felt wonderful, suddenly resounding with energy for the first time after days of lousiness. He walked back into the hotel and looked around for a way to release his pent up excitement.

Tenele had wondered down the hall of the in to the bathing room, locking the door behind her. The fire was going down bellow ready to heat the water that would be pumped into the tub.

After a little while a light steam filtered up from the top of the water and Tenele sank into the steaming hot tub slowly. Its just what she needed.

She missed her house terribly. Thats where all her clothes were. She wondered if anyone had broken into it yet. With out Essy there she was sure someone had.

Tenele scrubbed all the dirt and grime from her body and out of her silky hair. She dressed in the clothes she had been wearing, which she hated to do because they were dirty. However, she had nothing else to where.

Tenele still felt tired and unusually weak so she didn't bother going downstairs. Instead she returned to her room.

Talon walked up to Kaze and Kami, greeting them with a smile. "Morning," he said.

"I guess we should round up everyone and head to the Border as soon as possible now that we have Vlad's problem out of the way. Sinead sent us there on a mission after all. Does anyone know if Shinobu and Kyosuke came back last night?"

Before the Shogun could answer with the order to send Shinobu back, Kyosuke made an interjection, which was probably rude on his part and would cause him to lose face in front of the ruler, but it mattered little to him. "Perhaps it would be a bad idea to send Shinobu-dono back alone Kitanai-sama," Kyosuke said. "There was an assassin that went after her before, and if she finds out that Shinobu-dono still lives then her life might be forfeit."

Kitanai, to Kyosuke's credit, does take this into account. "I believe you would be of little use to us in the matter of protecting her then," he said. "After all, you failed to protect her before. Shinobu, you shall head back to Ongoreth, I will send one of my Nibu Wolves with you to guard you. He should do a better job at protecting you than this man will."

Shinobu looked at Kitanai for a moment and then lowered her head as he spoke to her about how Kyosuke had failed and would be of no use to her.

It made her sad to think that she might have to let Kyosuke go. She didn't want to, since it felt as if he were her only friend in the whole world.

"Yes, Kitanai-sama," she said soft and sadly to him in acknowledgement of the fact he would be sending one of his personal bodyguards with her.

She didn't like knew people watching her sleep. It had taken forever just to get used to Kyosuke watching over her as she slept.

"When is it you wish for me to leave?"

Tenele faded off into sleep by accident, but wasn't there long. She kept waking up over and over because her mind was telling her she was wasting precious time by lying around in bed. However, her body was thinking other wise. It screamed and pleaded every time she even moved to get off the comfy bed.

She sighed, snuggling up to a pillow and hugging it to her, her head resing on the top.

"I should go downstairs. Find out where I need to be heading. What my next mission is..."

Kitanai took a moment to think. "I would like it if you could leave as soon as possible," he said. "But since there seems to be the possibility of a threat to your life on hand, you cannot leave without proper protection. As the Nibu Wolves are not here currently, you will accompany this Kyosuke fellow and me to the Border, where I will assign one to guard you. At that point you will leave."

Kyosuke almost growled at the Shogun when he was called useless, but bit his tongue to keep from talking out of turn. Though he was confident in his ability to defeat the man, it would bring disappointment to Shinobu if he did so. Problems in the country would also rise up if it happened.

"mmm...I haven't seen them for a time Sir Talon." Kaze said, still ever formal with Talon.

Shinobu nodded. She felt totally helpless. She knew there was no way to go against her Shogun's wishes. She wanted to fight for Kyosuke to be able to stay by her side, but there were so many things she would be risking. Her clan's protection for one. She had to think of her people. But, Kyosuke was a friend and she cared for him deeply.

She would have time to think on it. She would be able to decide from now until the moment the Shogun returned with Kyosuke to Ongoreth.

"Alright," she agreed. "They will be wanting to leave soon I'm sure. Allow us to introduce you to our party."

"Hmmm..." Talon said glancing around. "I guess they'll turn up some time. I hope soon... Having to deal with Vlad has caused us to be late for our meeting at the Border... Be sure your ready to leave as soon as I give the order..."
