(LORE) HEALING

The city closest to the border. It is a city filled with traveling people and inns that hold many of the roughest people in Ighten. It's a good place to find weapons and an even better place to find trouble.

Mizuki blinked at the two children. How had the little boy gotten in? Mizuki held her suspicious remarks back though, the boy was in fact, a child and no child really knew better. She just hoped Soran wasn't too hard on the boy... even though they couldn't take any chances.

Soran showed no signs of relenting as he stared the boy down coldly. "Stand up. Three steps back," he directed, the boy numbly following his orders. When the boy was a safe distance from Rai, the rogue continued frigidly. "Who are you?"

The little boy answered rather fastly. "Thomas B. Thatcher, sir!" Rai giggled, his name sounded funny to her.

"He's my boyfriend," Rai giggled.

"Am not!!" the little boy said in defense of himself. He truely didn't want to be drug into the relationship in the first place.

"Indeed, you most definitively are not," Soran asserted dully in reinforcement of the boy's statement. He looked the scraggly boy over in distaste. "Now remove yourself from my house and keep your distance from my daughter." he said coldly.

Mizuki would've and could've started laughing, but she held her giggles to herself. Once the boy left, Mizuki went over to Rai and said, "You're a little too young sweet heart. But if you like him he can be your friend." Mizuki automaticaly overruled Soran's statement for the boy to never come near Rai again. "Just make sure we know he's here first..."

Rai pouted her lips when Soran said the little boy could never come near her again. "That's mean!" Rai said as the little boy practically ran for his life to get away from the new horrible dragon he didn't really want to face. He opened the door and ran full force down the road.

Rai narrowed her eyes and folded her arms. The little boy really had cheered her up, she wasn't nearly as sore and tired as she had been, though she wanted a nap sometime soon.

"You're a little too young sweet heart. But if you like him he can be your friend. Just make sure we know he's here first..."

"But, I was home all alone... and I don't like being alone! I'm sorry. I won't let anyone in while you're gone." She unfolded her arms. "He was all alone, poor Thomas..."

Soran sniffed indifferently at Mizuki's amendment to his decree. He would accept it, but he wouldn't say so. He didn't feel even slightly sorry for Thomas. He hadn't looked all alone; he'd looked like he was about to try to get some action from his injured daughter. But even if he wouldn't say so, he knew Mizuki had a woman's eye for things, and he trusted it. She didn't seem to think he was a threat, so he would at least allow for that possibility.

But he didn't have to show it ^_~.

Mizuki hugged Rai. "We wont leave you alone again then." she said to her with a smile then stood up, giving Soran a mock stern look. "If we're done here, I think I'll go upstairs to bathe now."

Soran listened to Mizuki's footsteps ascending the stairs as he stood alone in the room with Rai. He walked to the couch perpendicular to Rai's and sat down, relapsing into his headache. He leaned forward with his elbows on his knees and stared across the room thoughtfully, fidgeting with one of his bracelets. Sitting still was bad; he felt unwanted memories rising to his consciousness that he preferred to suppress. He really hadn't come to terms with all he'd learned about himself last night; not in the least. He needed to keep his head busy with other things, and to pretend the images burned into his head weren't really his.

He turned the bracelet end over end, rotating it aroundhis wrist without realizing it. He tried to think about money; the money Mizuki had made, and the options it gave them. They could live peacefully in comfort...did he want that? Did he deserve that, after all he'd done? Was it really possible to live that life, when his similar hopes had been betrayed so many times?

The elf shook his head; that line of thought wasn't helping. He leaned back and put his arms behind his head, intending to do his best to space out, but a pinch in his collarbone reminded him of the wound he'd gotten last night. Good, something to do. He fetched a bowl of water and a rag, and began sponging off the dried blood.

Rai watched Soran for a moment, she was still seated on the floor where Thomas had rescued her from the evil dragon when it had snatched her up. "Hey daddy? Are you mad at me?" she asked and went to crawl up on the couch beside him, putting her hands on his leg. She tilted her head slightly to the side, narrowing her eyes and wrinkling her nose slightly.

Soran glanced down at Rai as she crawled next to him. He dropped the rag into the pinkish water and set the bowl down by his feet. Daddy. It still sounded strange, but he was starting to get used to it. "I'm not angry," he said evenly. "But you shouldn't let people in the house."

"I know, but he was just a kid... like me..." Rai said and poked Soran's stomach. "I think I could take him!" Rai said and giggled as she made little fists. "Whatcha think?! Heehehehe...." Curly strands of hair fell in front of her blue-grey eyes.

"Maiyn was also a kid, 'like you'," Soran said humorlessly.

"That was different," Rai said, even though it wasn't very different at all. Rai just wanted to make Soran think it was different, though it would be hard.

"Yea, that was different because I erm... was in a hole! Yeah! That's it!" She crawled over into Soran's lap, sitting where she could face him. "Pretty please Soran!! I don't have any friends! I only have you, Mizuki, and Siren!"

Soran frowned and looked across the room. They'd never really had time to think about it, but it was true Rai didn't have friends her age. She should probably be in school, also. Neither had struck him as especially important, probably because he hadn't needed either as a child, but it was what normal children were supposed to have. If they had the means to settle down, maybe he should begin trying to give Rai a normal childhood. He paused and realized he was assuming that Mizuki intended to settle down with him. That money they'd made today was hers...she'd never openly said anything about planning to stay with him. He'd just assumed, after all they'd been through together...

Yes, Soran had utterly spaced out. He sat next to Rai, seemingly having forgotten her question, a nervous flush suddenly tinting his ears.
