Lore: Destroy all that Binds

The Mountain of May'em is one of the largest mountains in Heirot, standing like a shadow over the Ishtassy village. To get to the village you must travel through the Ra'esh Desert and over the mountain.

Mizuki nodded. It may be for the best anyway. Siren stood out from everyone else. Something caught Mizuki's eye from within the cart and before her and Rai stepped out she scooped it up under her robe. Thank the Gods, it was a cross bow-She didn't stop to think of why the boys had it. Mizuki paused again, searching where she had found it and asked to stop their carriage for a second.

"Forgot something." she half lied, fooling the guard and he let her search. Mizuki found the ammo she was looking for and managed to hide it under her robes. When the carriage moved again Mizuki put her hand on Rai's shoulder so not to lose her in the crowd of students as they walked.

The new students were milling forward through a pair of large bronze gates that led into a marble foyeur. A pair of women there were checking ID's on students as they passed, but not very thoroughly. They took no special notice of Mizuki or even Rai as they entered; they'd had young students before, such as Mayn. The group filed into a large meeting room where everyone was taking seats, apparently awaiting some sort of assembly.

Reya took a deep breath and headed downstairs, preparing to wear her mask of extroverted boldness through the assembly. She far preferred the time she spent alone in her office, thinking through complex magical equations than these rare public appearances she was needed for.

As Reya prepared to greet the new students, Jhaptal was outside testing out his armblades. He doubted that he would be able to copy Soran's style, he hadn't seen much of it anyway. However, he could work on creating his own varient on their use. He would never master it, but he wasn't worried about it. After all, he was a practioner of many weapons, but a master of none.

Mizuki stood close to Rai as they were filed into the room where all the students were gathering. 'This place is also a school' Mizuki thought, 'while doubling as a torture chamber for loved ones.' She gritted her teeth. She came to attention when a woman came in and stood at the fron on a stage to address them all. Mizuki watched the woman wondering who she was, but something told her she already knew.

Reya took a deep breath and stepped out onto the raised platform at the head of the room, where a podium was set up. She stood before it and looked out over the new students, clearing her throat sharply. The bustling room fell to a quick hush as the students realized who was standing in front of them, and all turned to face her.

Reya looked over them with an artificially stern gaze, disliking this aspect of her job, but knowing it had to be done right. She was introverted by nature, and public speaking wasn't her forte. "Good morning incoming students of the Arken institute for magic and sorcery. As you know, I am Reya Firecrost, the administrator of this facility and as of today, your headmaster. Today will begin your training toward becoming true masters of your respective arts, but to complete this training will require more than just skill. Obedience, discipline, and patriotic ambition are necessary to accomplish your goals here. As such, I'm expecting a great deal from each of you. Arken makes no fuss for those without the will to see to their own success, so do not expect to be pampered. Do expect to be respected for the ambition you display. I maintain a strict policy of respecting all questions and goals of my students, and in turn, I expect you to work your hardest, for the pride of this facility and for Arken. If you excel in your skills, you may be rewarded by Queen Shea with a position on her staff or the army. To your right you will see a group of students wearing yellow robes. You will now divide into groups of 20 and they will give you a brief tour of the facility. Good luck." With a stiff nod to the yellow-clad students, she retreated from the stage elegantly, though a bit hastily, and left the room.

Mizuki and Rai were filed into a group with 18 other students. All looking anxious to get this over with. Mizuki stayed inconspicous with Rai while their group's leader Began to show them around the facility. Mizuki kept her ears open for anything the guide said about dungeons..

The inside of the facility was surprisingly huge, and soon all the other groups had filed in their own directions. They guide led them down a corridor into a huge central hall, announcing that graduation and other major examinatiosn were held there. They walked through the various corridors that held the labs. It seemed all the lab rooms were reinforced with magical barriers, to protect any mishaps occuring during training from spreading to the rest of the building. No magic could cross over the barrier while it was activated.

They walked up a flight of stairs and were shown the very outside of Reya's quarters and the labs where her top staff assisted her in creating Arken's most powerful works of sorcery. Men and women in dark green robes bustled through the halls, but seemed too focused on their work to give the group a second glance. They were given no hints as to what they were all working on.

FInally they were brought down to levels via a large black marble staircase. They left the staircase there, though it seemed to go further. The entire building seemed made of marble, probably because it was a magically neutral material. There they were introduced to the dorm area where they would be staying, the dining hall, etc. When she was done with the tour, the guide turned and looked at them all. She seemed tired of hearing herself speak, and more tired of their presence. "Any questions?" she asked.

Nothing. It seems they had purposfully avoided going to anywhere that even remotly resembled dungeons.

"Any questions?" the guide asked. Mizuki found her opportunity and took it. She raised her hand like a timid student's who was just curious about the complex's security.

"How secure is the complex? Have you ever been infiltrated before by intruders?" She sounded just like someone who was only curious as to how safe the place was if she was going to stay here. She was building on the question that meant the world to their mission.

Rai stayed quiet, looking around with her curious child eyes. She didn't want to say much, that might risk there mission.

The guide seemed slightly ruffled by the question, but more in terms of pride than suspicion. "Of course, the facility is perfectly secure. Though we have many of Arken's strongest sorcerers here, Reya first among them, she also has several skilled warriors on her staff. Anyone who attempts to cause trouble here can be dealt with quickly. It's only because so many talented individuals are focused in one area that we don't need to bother with much external security. The only area of the building that needs to be physically guarded from intrusion is our lower level, where test subjects and other public hazards are kept. You may have noticed that the stairwell continues downward. However, if anyone were to attempt to go there, Lady Reya would know immediately unless she was already there herself. In which care there would hardly be an issue, with her talents." The woman gave Mizuki a smug look, ,as if daring her to imply that their complex lacked proper security.

Mizuki nodded and gave the guide the impression that she was impressed. She looked to Rai and tried to signal to her that this would be where they were going. Now all they had to do was get Siren and get down there and find Soran. But the guide said Reya would know...

Well then they'd have to be quick. It seemed a battle couldn't be avoided.

Reya paced her chambers, thinking about what she needed to do next. Magical bells went off incessantly in her head as the security she'd set up all around the complex reacted to the large number of people moving everywhere at once. She had enough to worry about without that. Her staff could handle things downstairs; for once, she ordered the signals off in her mind, letting her subtle magical connections with the rest of the building go numb for the time being. Except for the one place she knew she should be right now; Soran's cell. She sat down at her desk, anxious despite herself. In a few minutes, she told herself she'd have the resolve she needed.

Mizuki and Rai managed to break off from the rest of the group undetected. Staying hidden, Mizuki lead them backwards the way they came, but veered off to where the servants of the students were staying, assuming Siren would be there waiting. Mizuki kept their path clear in her mind and ordered Rai to do the same in remembering their path.

When the crept into the servants chambers entrance, Mizuki immediantly spotted Siren because of her wings. Mizuki had her and Rai shed the students robes for now before entering then attempted to get Siren's attention.

Siren's keen ears twitched slightly and she glanced over at where Mizuki and Rai had appeared. Slipping away from the bustle of moving luggage and bodies, she wove over to them. "Any news on where he is?" she asked.

"Yes," Mizuki said in a low voice. "Back where we came from, but we have to be quick about it and discreet. They said that Reya would know if we went to Soran so we may also need to be ready for battle."
