Soran was neither help nor hindrance to the people touching him. His mind had escaped into the safety of unconsciousness, which was dreamless as always.
Reya was already changed for bed that night when Jhaptal returned from the job she assigned him. The next day would be a big day; it was the orientation day for all new students of the Arken Primary Academy of Sorcery. And, the day she would end things with Soran. She was scheduled to make an appearance as the inaugural assembly the next morning, so she was going to bed on time righter than working late into the night, as she often did.
An image of Soran's eased, sleeping expression invaded her pragmatic thoughts. She shook her head to break off the thought, flicking a hand up to undo her braid to disguise the movement.
"I'm going to bed. Goodnight, Jhaptal," she said matter-of-factly, slipping into bed.

Jhaptal noted her shaking her head and would have been fooled by the fact that she had used it to under her braid, but the distracted look in her eyes had given away the reality. He chose not to comment on it, as he had been doing for the last week. "Good night Lady Reya," he replied as he slipped into his own bed. He wondered whether Reya would truly be able to end it tomorrow, or if her emotions would prevent her from doing so. For now, he had the utmost confidence in the sorceress.
Siren didn't see any obvious populated guard spots, and the section of the mountain they were near didn't seem particularly friendly to climbers, so she spread her wings, hot but not burning as much, and lifted off into the air, calling down to the others,
"I'm going to take a quick look around and see if there's a better place to go up from nearby. I"ll be right back."
"I'm going to take a quick look around and see if there's a better place to go up from nearby. I"ll be right back."
Siren flew off, sticking close to the side of the mountain so as not to be too blaringly obvious. Her dark wings in this lighting would look like dark shadows, and only her silvery aqua hair could likely give her away to the eye.
She circled around to the left of the group, noting the jagged rock foundation the fortress had been built on. If one fell and landed on a jag... She blocked the unwanted visual.
Suddenly the mountain seemed to open up in front of her, presenting a worn path running in zigzags up the mountain, on which a stream of people, all walking with an excited energy and youth that some of them should not have posessed, marched up the mountain. There didn't seem to be a common age to the people, but most were young adults bearing sorcerer's robes. Following them were what appeared to be servants and mules carrying their supplies, signifying that these people would be here for quite some time.
Further off there was another smaller group approaching. Siren thought about the options. THis seemed to be the only relatively easy way up the mountain, and she guessed that there would be small troups streaming in for a while yet.
She turned around and flew back to Mizuki and Rai to report her findings.
OOC: Insert Siren telling you here =p

Reya woke half-heartedly to the faint glow of the sun rising outside. Remembering all that was planned for the day, she felt a jolt of tension stiffen her spine. She suddenly felt a hundred years away from sleep, but reclosed her eyes anyway and attempted to escape back into her dreams.
*******
Soran's jade eyes slid dazedly open to the blurry bars of his cell. His sides and shoulders ached, and it wasn't until he tried to move them that he noticed his hands were bound above his head. His head swam with thoughts as he tried to recall what he'd been doing before he fell asleep. The actual events were all a blur; all he remembered were impressions: Pain, desperation...and oddly, safety and contentment. He felt distinctly that someone had been here with him...Mizuki, he realized, but that was impossible. Who? He might have imagined it.
Of course he'd imagined it. He was alone here. Above his head, his hands were mercifully numb from hanging by his wrists; he almost preferred the loss of circulation over the pain of the holes in his palms, but he found his footing and stood under his own weight so the blood could sting back into his fingers.
The elf looked down at his body, clean skin broken by ragged cuts and gashes. He regretted it instantly. As he focused his gaze back out across the cell at the concrete wall opposite him, hopelessness set in on him like a sack of sand, taking his breath away. Dizzily, he reminded himself to inhale, wondering what Mizuki, Rai and Siren were doing right now. Were they sleeping, or shopping, or maybe Rai had convinced them to go swimming again... he didn't even know what time of day it was. He raised his eyes to the ropes binding his hands, and began to work at them carefully, seeking out any weaknesses in the knot even as he was hit with the truth that it hardly made a difference if he got them off or not. No...He couldn't afford to be thinking like this, but the harder he tried to stop, the worse he felt.
"Mizuki..." he framed the thought half-heartedly as he worked at the ropes. "Sorry... I can't come back." A wry laugh died in his throat as he reminded himself that she wouldn't hear him.

"So can we go in now? Please! I really want to see Soran. I'm worried about him. What if some horrible woman did was Gabriel did to you Mizuki? Will Soran have a baby like Blade? I guess Blade could always use a little brother... or sister!"
Rai stood up, carrying her cantine in her arms. "But, lets hope that doesn't happen... I want Soran to be okay!"

Mizuki would've laughed at Rai's words, but she was busy thinking over Siren's information and then... "Mizuki..." Her eyes shot up and she stared towards the mountain.
"Sor....an...?" she whispered, barely audiable.
"Sorry... I can't come back." Tears stung her eyes as she felt his hopelessness, but at least she had found his thought signature! Soran...we're coming for you.., she sent him the message back, not sure if he would answer or not she kept her mind open and empty to receive him. She almost forgot that the other's were waiting for her decision.

Unfortunately, the room holding Soran was the magical equivalent of a whiteroom. Mizuki could hear him because she was outside of the system and possessed seer powers, but the magical barrier in the room warped any magic that came in or out, and obscured most of Mizuki's message.
Again, Soran felt an unexplained warmth enter his mind. He almost felt he could hear words behind it, but they dissolved as soon as he tried to understand them. Thinking he'd imagined something again, Soran cleared his head, though as foolish as it seemed, he still felt calmed by the feeling.

A light knock on the chamber door interrupted Reya's pseudo-sleep. "Lady, I'm very sorry to bother you, but the students are arriving. The inauguration ceremony will begin soon...they will be eager for your address."
Reya sighed quietly and got up, going to take a shower.

"The way they seemed anxious and excited probably means something of great import is going to happen. But the quantity of items they brought with them shows that they intend to stay a long time. And many were wearing robes signifying schools of magic." A light bulb went off.
"Perhapps they are incoming students or staff? At any rate, slipping into their system might be the only way to get in with some hope of secrecy."

OOC: gonna be gone for some time. wedding.........omg
Mizuki tapped her chin thoughtfully. "We would have to blend in." she said. "We'd stick out like sore thumbs if we weren't wearing what they were." She looked at Rai and Siren, closed her eyes and saw an image of Soran... and a warning he wouldn't last any longer. Her body convulsed in shivers despite the warmth of the desert.
"We'll have to ambush three of them and take their things." she said with calculated calmness. Not like she hasn't done it before. "Where did you see them?"

(OOC: Heh, sorry, I just got back from a wedding in Kentucky last night, anyway, time for me to post)
Jhaptal had been out of his bed when Reya originally awoke and subsequently tried to return to sleep. Normally he would have stopped her, especially with the events that were expected today. However, he decided not to when he remembered that one of the events that was to be expected was the death of the rogue that had been tortured in the dungeons for the last week or so. If a few extra minutes of sleep would help her build her resolve to do it, he would not stop her.
Fortunately, the servant did that for him with her knock on the door. The ninja just guarded the sorceress from the shadows, even while she took a shower, waiting for any orders she might give him.
