Soran couldn't tolerate the pain in silence anymore. He choked out an agonized cry, his other hand wrenching at its binding, instinctively trying to go to the aid of his wounded hand. He took a few deep, gulping breaths, and clenched his eyes. "AHHHHH" he screamed in infuriated frustration, forcing his thumb and forefinger to close over the blade and flex to pull it out of the table. He threw all his focus into the effort, shuddering breathlessly as he finally got the weapon loose and worked it out of his hand.
Soran stared at his bloodied hand, trying to think, to make his head reason, but all he was conscious of at the moment was pain. Desperately, he called up the image of Mizuki in his head and poured his focus into it, feeling himself grow slightly more composed.

The fragile image of Mizuki shattered. A short, piercing cry broke from Soran's throat. He swallowed it back between gasps, turning his eyes on Reya, who blurred in and out of focus. "You must be doing this for a reason. What the hell do you want," he demanded breathlessly. Agony swam in his voice.
"Nothing you need to be told about," Reya returned, though her voice was rather quiet in comparison to normal. "That's enough for now, Jhaptal. Return him to his cell. Send someone to see to his hands," she said, partly because she herself had reached her limit for witnessing his suffering. That was okay; she had plenty of time to overcome this.

"Very well," Jhaptal said and slowly tugged the knife out. Before he unbound the elf, he called the doctor in, making sure the man brought iodine to disinfect the wounds with. Without any care for the elf's pain, the doctor cleaned his wounds with the stinging liquid before binding him up. After he dismissed the man, the ninja unbound the rogue, watching for possible resistance from Soran.

Jhaptal was sure that the knee would hurt, had the elf been in his best condition. Now the ninja just absorbed the force of the blow, then grabbed the leg under the elf's knee and swept his other foot out, the ninja throwing his own weight onto the rogue so he would land on the elf's body. "I see you no longer care what happens to Mizuki and the others," he said calmly.

Jhaptal nodded and released him, knowing that Soran would mean it. The ninja grabbed the tray of food that had been left behind by the servant earlier and took the elf out, shoving him back into his cell and leaving the tray of food at the cell door. "You can eat that if you're hungry," he said, then strolled out of the room.

Soran looked down at the food Jhaptal had left, feeling pulses of dizzy nausea run through him. He walked past it to the cell wall and eased himself down, cringing at just this slightest adjustment of the flesh of his front torso. His hands ached like fire. He stretched one leg out in front of him and eased the other up toward his chest despite the way it forced his skin to move. Letting his hands lie still on the ground at his sides, he supported his spinning head on his knee. Now that he was finally alone, despair suddenly threatened to overwhelm him. He might never get out of here. He might be killed in another session like today's or - far worse, and suddenly quite likely - they might be planning to keep him within an inch of his life, over some grudge whose meaning his cursed brain couldn't even remember. He closed his eyes and begged his body to sleep.
About a week had passed, with Jhaptal torturing Soran physically every day. On the morning of the 7th day, Jhaptal once again awoke in his bed in Reya's room. He had noted that Soran had finally started eating the food offered to him. That would work to his advantage further.
In any case, the ninja dressed and waited for Reya to wake up. He doubted that would take long since she normally woke shortly after he did.

Reya shifted in her bed and woke with a slight start. Staring toward her clean ceiling, she brought her hand up and pressed her fingers thoughtfully against the bridge of her nose. She'd begun having difficulty sleeping ever since the rogue had been brought there. To make matters worse, even as she grew more hardened to his suffering by the day, for some reason her sleep only grw worse. It gave her a kind of sick satisfaction to witness the horrors that had been performed on that perfect body. Over time it had evolved into a keen sense of loathing, which she expected would resolve into indifference with just a bit more time. Her loathe had no real target; if it was directed at anything, it was probably her own weakness. But all that would resolve, very soon.
Her confidence regained, Reya pulled aside her silken covers and rose. "Good morning, Jhaptal," she said courteously as she found him there in his expected place. She began changing calmly into her sorcerer's robes.

Jhaptal nodded in acknowledgement of the greeting. "Good morning," he replied. "You haven't been sleeping well recently have you?" he asked. He recognized the signs from her current appearance, and his subconscious mind had also noted it while he was in his light sleep. He deduced that Soran might be the reason for it, but it could have been a coincidence.
