Lore: Destroy all that Binds

The Mountain of May'em is one of the largest mountains in Heirot, standing like a shadow over the Ishtassy village. To get to the village you must travel through the Ra'esh Desert and over the mountain.

"Yeah. You're a bastard," Soran cursed angrily.

"That's nice, but it still doesn't answer the question," Jhaptal replied, putting the poker back into the fire. "So there was a shop in Aerroes and a fight broke out outside. What happened that caused you two to meet?"

"When the authorities came to break up the fight, we chose the same place to lay low. We learned each other's names, and that was it. We parted afterwards," Soran said flatly, trying to control his frustration.

Jhaptal just accepted the lack of detail and attributed it to the pressure of the torture. "Very well, I will tell Lady Reya of what I have discovered," the ninja replied. He stepped out of the dungeon, leaving the elf strapped into the table.

Moments after he left, a servant walked in with a tray of prisoner food. Jhaptal had called her in to feed the captive. After all, he didn't want Soran to die just yet. She released a lock on the table and tilted it so that he is mostly upright.

Soran released a pained breath as soon as Jhaptal left the room, flexing his arms instinctively to try and clutch at his wounds. Unfortunately, he was completely immobilized. He wondered what was going on, and why Jhaptal had left to report to this Reya person. From his behavior, Soran had thought Jhaptal was perhaps a jealous servant of some sort that wanted to know about he and Reya for his own purposes, but it seemed there was more to it than that. That also meant that his bluff would be called. He had been counting on Jhaptal not wanting to reveal the content of the interrogation to his master.

When a servant came in and attempted to feed him, Soran staunchly refused the food. His pride wouldn't let him be fed by others' hands, even if he knew his body was hungry. At the moment, however, eating was the last thing on his mind, his burning skin sucking away any appetite he might have had. The woman looked at him critically and receded to the corner of the room, waiting for Jhaptal to return to dismiss her from her futile task or give her further instructions on how to deal with this unusual reaction of a prisoner refusing hospitality.

Jhaptal strolled down the hall towards Reya's office, quickly and silently disappearing into one of his hidden passages along the way. He had installed a series of them himself in order to help him sneak around undetected and watch suspicious visitors.

The ninja made sure that there was no one else around when he emerged from the secret passage in the office and made a quick bow to the sorceress. "Soran Nightblade has given me answers to all your questions Lady Reya," he reported.

Reya looked up at Jhaptal curiously. "Has he?" she said doubtfully. "And what was his response?" She briefly harbored the suspicion that her spell might somehow have been overridden, but she knew the strength of her own magic, and that it was impossible.

Jhaptal took a moment to recall the information he had received earlier. First he reported the lineages of the two young ones that Soran travelled with. Without waiting for her reaction, he then began to repeat the story Soran gave him about his initial encounter with Reya.

Reya made little outward reaction to Jhaptal's story. She was inwardly satisfied that the rogue had not born chilren with his companions, and not the least surprised to find that his description of his first meeting with her was a lie. She had the option, now, of accepting that story and letting him off the hook. But no, that was not what she needed to do. "The story his has given you about my acquaintance is a lie. He must submit completely and honestly to my questions before he can be of use to me. I will tell you the correct answer, so you will know the truth when you hear it. We met when I was running from gangsters in the middle of the night, and crashed into him by chance. Whatever his reason for concealing this, he will be of no use until he is made to answer honestly. Show no mercy until he does so," she instructed calmly.

Jhaptal felt a bit of confusion rise within him, which he hid behind his stoic mask. "If I may ask Lady Reya," he started "If you know the information already, why do I need to torture him for this information?" Of course, the ninja had his suspicions about the reason, but he hadn't confirmed it just yet.

Reya nodded her understanding at Jhaptal. She was accustomed to his perceptiveness, and was not the type to become aggravated with his seeming to lack confidence in the purpose of her strange instructions. "You are keen, Jhaptal. For now, I'll call it a wish to make Nightblade submit completely to his position here. There is more to it, as you seem to suspect, and the rest may become clear to you in time. I will say that you should not hold back in damaging him, but he is not to be killed."

"Very well Lady Reya," Jhaptal replied. He chose not to question the mission any further, Reya had her own reasons for doing this anyway. With a quick turn, he headed back into the secret passages and soon found himself back in the dungeons.

He openned the door to the torture chamber and dismissed the servant, but told her to leave the food here. "You lied to me Nightblade," he said as soon as the girl left.

"Oh really? Odd, that's clearly how I remember it," Soran said sourly as he followed Jhaptal's movement across the room to the extent his immobile neck would allow.

Jhaptal didn't reply to Soran's comment, instead he tilted the table up so that Soran was now perpindicular to the ground. "The torture will continue until I get the right answer then," the ninja said. He walked over to a box filled with jagged looking glass, and without any warning, he snatched a piece up and threw it at the elf's torso. He avoided any major arteries and made sure they would scrape against bone instead of sinking into flesh.

Soran cringed and sucked in a surprised breath at the sudden assault. "There's nothing to tell; I've never met your damned lady in my life," he shot back, flexing his arms against their restraints and finding that they didn't give whatsoever under the pressure.
