Lore: Forgotten Enemies
Without realizing it, Mizuki had run right to Tensho. Screaming after turning the corner, she launched backwards away from him again with Blade in her arms. All she could think of was getting Blade safely away from this, but how? 'The blob!'She thought. 'It had protected Blade from harm before.'
She quickly got to a window, too small for her to shimmy through but big enough to get Blade out. With panic in her voice she told the blob to protect Blade and take him somewhere safe. She trusted it, without understanding its existence.
The Blod, fully understanding Mizuki's instructions, encircled Blade in its now dark, basinet-like body and slithered away with him towards the village. Mizuki stared after the small retreating form, tears falling from her eyes.
"Fates protect him..." she whispered through her tears. She promised to survive, and find him again just as she heard her attackers footsteps...

Rai closed her eyes tightly, her hands clinging to Soran's shirt and jacket. She was very confused about what the girl was talking about, but then again she couldn't pay much attention because she was too distracted by her hurt leg. She groaned as Soran ran because her leg jolted every now and then, but she knew he was running for a good reason, so she didn't tell him to take it easy.
Jhaptal had no intention of hurting the baby of course, they were too easy to kill, and killing wasn't one of his goals. Fortunately, knocking people out was, so when Mizuki went to get Blade to safety, he quickly came up behind her and smacked her with the flat of the blade as well. He let the blob do as he would with the baby.

Soran clutched Rai as he finally reached the house. He climbed silently up the front steps and, stepping to the side of the door, threw it open. When no sounded inside, he turned into the doorway and the first thing he saw was Siren lying unconscious on the floor. He moved to enter, then an old instinct sent his eyes back to scan the floor, and found Tensho's cantrops scattered over the floor. He grimaced and took a few steps back, then ran forward and swung by one arm on the doorframe, landing on the other side of the trap.
As soon as his feet met the floor with a dull thud, he ran to Siren and knelt, checking her pulse and breathing. He took a deep breath. She was alive. But who? He saw the empty sheath of the katana he had retrieved for Tensho sitting loose on the ground nearby, and eyed it suspiciously. Rising again, he looked at Rai and raised his finger to his mouth, then moved stealthily through the house, searching for Mizuki. Despite his smooth movements, the floorboards creaked uncooperatively, announcing their presence.
What he found when he turned a corner and faced the back door astonished him, if it was possible, even more than the rest of this crazy situation. Tensho was standing over Mizuki's collapsed body - clearly his own work.
"What the hell's going on here?" Soran demanded, his cold stare flashing from Tensho to Mizuki, and back again.
OOC: For those who are like me and never heard of caltrops - here, I looked them up:
A metal device with four projecting spikes so arranged that when three of the spikes are on the ground, the fourth points upward, used as a hazard to pneumatic tires or to the hooves of horses.

Rai clutched Soran's shirt still, not noticing Siren on the floor or him telling her to be quiet. She was shivering uncontrolably, feeling cold... and she couldn't consentrate. She was dizzy. When she tried to open there eyes they glanced around constantly before rolling back in her head ever so often. Her breath was quick, as if she couldn't get any at all... She didn't make any complaints about pain any more, because she really didn't feel it that much...
She opened her eyes half way, but she still couldn't consentrate so they began to blink frequently.
"What the hell's going on here?"
Rai opened her eyes slightly, glancing at Tensho standing above Mizuki. Everything was all swimmy now, moving around in strange ripply ways...
"S-soran..." she whispered softly. "I... don't... feel good..."

Jhaptal turned to see Soran standing nearby. Either he was a very good runner, or Mayn didn't take him away as far as he thought she would. Either way, he was done with what he needed. "Soran Nightblade, I've been ordered here to bring you to Lady Reya Firecrost," Jhaptal said, getting right to the point. His voice now lacking the emotions the others might have been used to him having. He kept the katana pointed at Mizuki as he talked. "While my... associate and I could have brought you to her by force, I find it is easier to bring in someone willing. So we have shown you what we are capable of, and if we so choose to do so, we could end them." To emphasize the point, he stabbed the katana into the ground next to Mizuki's neck. "Therefore, I shall wait for you outside the inn you met me in. You have until midnight, or we will come back and finish what we started." With that said, the ninja jumped out a nearby window, and dashed past Blade, who was still protected by the blob, and disappeared into the night.

Soran stared at the place Jhaptal had been standing, fury written over his features. He grasped the katana that had been thrust beside Mizuki's head, and hurled it out after his traitorous comrade. The blade fell short, of course, as the ninja disappearedinto the night, and landed in the dirt outside. That bastard had conned him. How could he have been so stupid... Jhaptal's message echoed in his mind. Laya Firecrost...he'd never heard the name, but something about it gave him a sense of dread...but moreso, fury.
He turned from the window and checked Mizuki's vitals, then looked down at Rai. Her condition was getting worse. Her blood ran down his chest and soaked into his clothing, and she was clearly going into shock. His elementary first aid skills would not be of any use for this. Forcing himself away from Mizuki, he ran back to the other room and kneeled next to Siren, holding Rai against his chest. "Siren," he called to her, grasping her shoulder with his other arm and shaking her gently. "Siren! Wake up, damnit. I don't know how to fix this!" he hissed, his voice rising in urgency. He patted the side of her face firmly. He wasn't sure what the extent of Siren's own injuries were, but this was an emergency.

Siren's black world started echoing with strange noises painfully, which gradually solidified and cleared up into Soran's voice, and the feeling of a soreness in her cheek. Her eyes lolled open, rolling up back into their sockets first, then gradually finding a focus on Soran's face.
She felt like she had been hit by a boulder, and reached her hand with difficulty to the back of her head, where she found a swollen and slightly bloody bump where she had been hit.
"What happened?" she said groggily, doing her best to sit up slowly without getting dizzy while she regained her senses.

Soran felt relief wash through his anger as Siren opened her eyes and was able to speak. Thank god...she doesn't look like she has a concussion, he thought as she managed to speak coherently.
"Tensho attacked you, and Mizuki," Soran said, anger icing over his voice. "He's gone, for now. But Rai...needs help." He looked at Rai with a cold frown. "I know you just took a bad hit, but..is there anything you can do for her? I dont' understand the wound. She must have been hit by some kind of arrow...but it shows all the signs of a burn, and she's going into shock," he spoke in a rush, his voice betraying his alarm even if his cold eyes didn't.

Siren couldn't quite grasp the idea that she had actually been attacked yet, but seeing the young girl, nearly limp in Soran's arms, she could see enough of the scenario to understand the Rai is hurt part.
She shook her head to try and clear it a bit, moving to a kneeling position and guiding Soran to set the girl down so she could have a better look.
"What in the world is going on?" she breathed, smelling the burnt skin and blood finally. She was no doctor or healer, but she understood what Soran was asking of her, so she lightly touched the leg, inspecting the ghastly wound. The bone was fine, but whatever had punctured her had seared right through the muscle.
"Soran, I"ll do what I can, but we need to get her to a healer as soon as possible. This is really bad."
Siren brought out a bag of potions and began rummaging through them, hoping to find something that would work in this sort of scenario. She didn't want to numb Rai since right now responses were very important. And rushing to make a potion on the spot could be disastrous.

Rai was still holding fast to Soran's shirt, refusing to let go of it for any reason. They would have to pry her hands off his shirt if they needed to get her away from him.
Rai's eyes rolled around in circles, taking the disshoveled images that seemed to float around in mid air when they should be rock sollid and she continued to shiver and over. She was breathing quickly, sucking in air fast only to let it out even faster.
"Is it bad?" she asked in between breaths. "It doesn't feel that bad..."

Mizuki's eyes fluttered open to blurred vision in the soft light of candles. She felt like someone with a hangover and she groan softly before remembering. Mizuki froze suddenly as her eyes darted around her surroundings on the floor. She didn't feel bindings of any kind, or wounds.. no one was near...
'Blade..' she thought suddenly. She had sent him off alone when she was attacked. "Blade!" she shouted and sprang to her feet. She ran to the door, not noticing it was open or anything else, and ran into the night trying to find her son.
It didn't take long. He was whimpering softly behind some brush, yards away from the house, with the blob trying to soothe him.
"Blade..." Mizuki whispered in relief and bundled him in her arms. She sat there, hugging her son tightly to her chest and rocking him gently. He wasn't safe, she soon realized. 'We're still being attacked...' she thought with tears falling down her cheeks. 'This isn't safe for a baby...' but where could she put him, and find him again? He was a Dark Angel, he had to learn his heritage. Only one place came to mind, but she was afraid to send him there. What would happen if they knew who's baby he was?
But what choice did she have.....?

"That's because your nerves were destro-," Soran began, but stopped. The severity of the wound was just going to scare her. "You'll be okay. I'll find a doctor," he said firmly, scanning his memory for a doctor with magical healing skills. He had never been much for physicians - especially magic users. Finally, a name came to mind, and a face to go with it. She lived nearby...if she hadn't left the area. It wasn't someone he particularly looked forward to speaking with, but that was of least concern at the moment. He touched Rai's forehead and stroked her bangs aside to reassure her, though he caught his own last two fingers shaking as he moved his hand. He pressed them quickly together to still them, hoping Rai hadn't noticed.
A sound from the other side of the house sent his attention like a shot back to where Mizuki had been. He'd heard a door, and footsteps, and suspected the worst - that Tensho or that child had come back after Mizuki once she was left alone. He narrowed his eyes and went to stand, but found Rai grasping onto his shirt. "I'll be back," he apologized grimly, setting her hand back down next to her and darting for the other side of the house, where the door was ajar and Mizuki was missing. The rogue ran outside and heard the soft sound of a child whimpering nearby. He ran towards the sound and soon found, to his immense relief, Mizuki and Blade huddled together in the brush.
"Mizuki!" he said quickly, coming and kneeling in front of her. "Are you hurt?" he asked, seeing the tears running down her face.
