"Yes, you can hide from the bad things," Mayn smirked, her eyes revealing a harshness that hadn't been there before. "Provided they aren't already here with you."
In her hand that held the mirror, an arch of blue light spread from her fingers like fire, forming a bow of blue magical energy. "Have you ever seen one of these before?" she asked Rai, very innocently, turning the bow sideways and gazing at it as its glow lit up the dim interior of the dam.

"You haven't? That makes sense. This is called the Aurn's Bow, a weapon developed by wizards in Arken," she said amiably, taking her other hand and touching the center of the bow, the drawing it away in a straight line. A vibrant arrow of flickering white power formed along her fingers' path.
"Its arrows are made from a magical flame. Its temperature is so high that it burns white. Of course, it can burn even hotter if enough power is invested," she bragged, like a child gloating to a friend over a toy. She looked at Rai with a smug grin, turning the bow towards her, the arrow drawn back to her ear. "These hurt up to ten times more than regular arrows," she continued casually, as if nothing were wrong.

Mizuki sheriked, startling her son and the blob, who took action and surrounded Blade in a protective black sphere. Mizuki fell on her back trying to dodge Tensho's attack, the breath was knocked right out of her lungs and she faultered to her feet coughing.
"Get away!" she screamed and flunge a chair at Tensho.
OOC: Wanted Mizuki to put up a fight. >_> for once...

OOC: Wanted Mizuki to put up a fight. >_> for once...
With a basebat bat like swing, Tensho brought the flat of the katana around so that it knocked the chair away. Right after his vision was clear again he immediate reached into one of his belt pouches and through a handful of caltrop towards the door of the house, making it very hard for anyone to get in and out of the house. Now he had much more time to corner Mizuki.
Mizuki, who barely had any time to think about her predicament, dashed towards Blade again and grabbed him with the blob still protectivly surrounding him. She couldn't get outside through the front, but there was a backdoor. Without sparing a glance at Tensho, she ran out of the room, praying Siren would be alright by herself in her unconscious state.
She wanted to scream to get any kind of attention. Where were Soran and Rai? Had Tensho gotten them somehow? Fighting tears, Mizuki concentrating on keeping a good distance between her and Tensho while weaving through the bottom floor of the house.

Jhaptal dashed right after the fleeing woman. It was apparent that she hadn't taken the time to explore the house yet. However, one of the first things that the ninja had done once he had come to was to figure out the layout of the house. With that in mind he hit Siren one more time, just to make sure she'd stay out for longer, then dropped some more caltrops by the back door and waited for her to approach him.

Soran stood outside the dam, looking out across the river with his arms crossed. It was a nice night, and he was still riding a mental high from his experience with Mizuki just a short time before. He was doing it: he'd begun to open to those around him, if only a little. He could allow his feelings for Mizuki, and be there for Rai, and joke with Siren...and the unnamed danger he'd been suspicious of these past ten years showed no sign of interfering. It had just been a matter of loosing up, after all. He eyed the dam with slight impatience, waiting for Rai to reemerge, but despite himself, he felt...content. Could it really stay this way?
Mayn drew her arrow back a bit farther, smirking at the fear in Rai's voice with a cruelty that shouldn't have belonged to a face as young as hers.
"Don't worry, girl. I have no intention of killing you...for now. Do forgive me, though, if this causes a sting."
With that, she let fly her arrow, the magical shaft aimed for Rai's left leg just above the knee - a nonlethal, but notoriously painful target. It flew at her with a flame so hot it could burn straight through her flesh.

Rai gasped when the gril started talking about shooting her. She backed away, but Rai was a bit to confused and to clumsy at the moment to dodge successfully. The arrow plunged into her leg with such force and driving pain that Rai screamed in a way she had never screamed before.
She fell backwards, wanting nothing more than to hold her wound, but it burned to much to touch. She tried to crawl away, but she accidently moved her tiny hurt leg several times, making her cry out a bit more. Tears sprung to her eyes.
"Soran! Soran!" she screamed, hoping he hadn't wondered off.

Mayn smirked as the child screamed in pain, moving in towards her and grasping her roughly by the ankle of her wounded leg with a grip that was far too strong for her size. In her other hand, the rounded mirror began to glow, and a white light surrounded them both.
Soran's blood froze as a heartstopping shriek came from the dam. He knew it was Rai's voice, though it was so distorted by pain or fair or both that it no longer sounded like the child he knew.
"Soran! Soran!" he heard his name screamed from inside the dam. Clueless as to what could be wrong, but knowing this was no false alarm, he launched toward the dam, calling out his blades. Before he could enter the structure, however, he heard a sound above him and looked up in shock to see the white-haired girl hovering high in the air above him, holding Rai upside down by a bloodied leg.
"Rai!" he shouted.
"Easy," she giggled to herself, holding onto Rai. "Way too easy."

Soran stared up at Rai's tormented face, horrorstruck. "Release her!" he ordered with dangerous authority. It took far more effort than it appeared to keep the stunned panic from his voice.
Mayn levitated back a yard, succumbing unintentionally to the nervous fear induced by Soran's hateful tone and demonic jade glare. "Oh, but that would be no fun, Mister Nightblade," she purred as her confidence returned.
"NOW!" bellowed Soran furiously.
"Oh dear, I seem to have angered you," she giggled.
"Who the hell are you?" the rogue demanded.
"A messenger of destiny, maybe?" she grinned, inspiring no amusement in the elf.
"RELEASE HER!" he demanded again, engulfed by the sudden, sick realization of just how powerless he was in this situation. He couldn't reach Rai, and even with a limb from the dam, the girl could just levitate further out of reach. "Release her, and we'll talk. It's clear your business is with me," he ordered coldly.
"Hm, scary," Mayn said, smiling. "I suppose I'll have to release her, then." Her eyes flickered in amusement as her fingers unclasped from Rai's ankle, and the child suddenly began plummeting toward the ground.
Soran's eyes widened. He burst forward, barely clearing the two yards to where Rai would have fallen, and caught her as gently as he could manage, curling her into his arms. His eyes flashed over the wound on her leg and then stared down at her. "Rai," he called firmly to her. His voice was like ice, passionless - an instinctive reaction to the pounding fear he was experiencing.

Rai screamed as she plumited to the ground, afraid that she was going to hit it hard and it would cause her more pain. Rai felt a jolt of more pain and by this time her head was so dizzy with it she was sick. She realized the pain had been caused by being caught in mid air.
"S-Soran?" she asked him, looking up at him. "What's going on? I don't understand..."

"Don't talk. Save your strength," Soran spoke protectively to Rai, and looked up at Mayn. "Damned bitch," he growled.
Mayn raised her eyebrows proudly. "Me? It was your own fault she was in danger," she accused casually, looking idly into her mirror. "I just needed your attention, and you made it sooo easy to get her alone. I should be thankful you're selfish enough to keep such vulnerable people around you," she said.
"Can it. What is this about?" he demanded.
"Well, that would be a long story," Mayn said annoyingly.
"I've got time," Soran said darkly, hatred spewing from his voice.
"Oh do you? You seem to think that because you've secured the child, you can protect the people around you," she said accusingly, shaking her head in mock regret.
"What?" Soran demanded, a dark suspicion forming in his tone.
Mayn's smile twisted horribly. "There were others, with you. Where are they now, Mister Nightblade?" she said. Each word was spoken slowly, deliberately.
Soran narrowed his green eyes, trying to understand. The meaning of her words dawned on him like a mallet to the spine. Mizuki! Siren...
Casting a murderous glare on Mayn, he spun away from her and broke into a full sprint toward the house, cradling Rai as securely as he could. Rai's leg smelled of burned flesh, and a thin wisp of smoke still wofted from the wound. Thankfully, it bled much less than it should have, thanks to the cauterizing effects of the internal burns. But with that much carbon in her system, she'd be headed for blood poisoning in no time, never mind shock. He had no idea what was going on, or why. All he knew was that they were all in danger - and that somehow it directly involved him. His legs drove him rapidly, but not nearly as fast as he wanted, across the long distance they'd walked, back toward the house.
