Lore: Short In Stature

Post by Emora Deen »

"EEK!" Rose yellped as she fell out of the purse of a rather round woman. She had hitched a ride in the purse, just to see where it would take her. She didn't expect the woman to dump her purse out onto a table.

"I bid... 50 gold peices for the little wrech!" she blubbered out.

Rose hit the table hard, though no one would see. Adults rarely saw her, they were too busy paying attention to other things. She coughed and sputtered as the dust on the table filled her lungs. Standing she dusted off her small frame, knocking the dirt from her knees.

"Humph... where am I?" She asked allowed. It was alot to take in. The thousands of yelling voices, the many moving people... Too much to take in really.

"100 gold!" A rather thin and pasty man said as he raised his hand, then slammed it down on the table.

The table jolted and, since Rose was very tiny, she flew into the air. She flapped her shimmering wings took keep from landing on her rear. "Goodness," she said, really not getting what all the fuss was about.

"Maybe I'll take a look around?" She decided that it was a good idea, and flew in circles, though no one seemed to notice.

She gulped at the thought, humans do not believe in fairies. Yes, it shocked her. How could ANYONE not believe in fairies? She flew in front of a crooked nosed woman, steadily looking her in the eye and it was as if she were invisible... Maybe the woman had more important things to do than pay attention to her?

So Rose moved on, turning her attention then to what everyone seemed to be pointing at. A large stage where a few people were standing. "Oh! How dreadful!" she said, noticing that they were all in chains. They all seemed so sad, she couldn't understand what could possibly make them seem so sad. Although, at the moment she did not entirely understand the situation.

Amidst the commotion Rose thought she saw a small figure standing behind a few of the adults. Could it be? Or did her eyes decieve her. Was that really a child? She flew forward some more, dodging the fast moving men and women as they went to collect what they had bought. "Hello!" her tiny voice said, though no one was sure to hear her over the loud commotion of the auction room.

Rose blinked in surprise that the little girl had heard her. She wove her way though the basicly terrified crowd and found herself hovering before a child! "How are you?!" She asked perky, smiling as she hovered back and forth, as if doing a back-stroke in the air.

"My name is Rose Ivyleaf! What's yours?!" She said in gernerous interest.

"Imagening me?" Rose asked with a rather silly tone. "Goodness no!" She squeaked. "I am here! I am here! Surely you believe in me?" She flew back and forth and side to side, then looped several times around the little girls head. "Surely your a human child, for adults rarely see me."

"So... what are you doing here?" she asked curiously as she took another look around.

Rose looked at the poor girl. She flew and landed on the girl's shoulder. "Shhh... shh... don't cry. Its okay! Everything will be alright, I'm sure!" she said, trying to offer words of comfort to the girl. She hated to see children cry.
