Lore: Journey to the Border
Kyosuke was ready to defend their vampiric companion. He glared harshly at the monk and said, "If it weren't for him we wouldn't have gotten the doctor here in time to save Shinobu's life." Gone was the happy samurai for now, in its place was the samurai who's sense of justice had been violated. "I don't know what he did to you people, but I think you guys should better realize that if he truly meant to cause harm then you would all be dead already."

Shinobu looked at the ceiling, beginning to find that her body found the floor very uncomfortable. It seemed like she wasn't even in the room anymore... No one had bothered to see if she needed anything. The voices were fussy in her head so she really didn't know for sure if they had asked anyway.
She took a deep breath and tried to push herself into a sitting position. She looked up at Kyosuke as her head grew dizzy and she eased herself back down, closing her eyes. "Yamato, Kyosuke get back in bed... you shouldn't be up walking around..." A soft smile came to her lips as her eyes remained closed, to tired to open them to see what expressions might cross the samurai's face.

As soon as he saw that the outsiders were not taking a cooperative attitude toward their directions, the main messenger had sent one of his brothers to report the trouble to the high priest. The high priest listened to the man's story with a grim expression.
"This is most unfortunate. I don't care for violence on our grounds, but it is not God's way to shut out those in need. Of course, the injured may stay as long as necessary. The vampire, however, is a hazard. Prepare those who were not involved in the prior spell to begin preparations for a warding spell."
"For the entire monastery, sir?"
"Yes."
"They will be ready in 3 minutes, sir. You yourself should rest. Two such spells in one day-"
"I'll be fine, thank you, brother. Hasten with the preparations."

"The vampire may absolutely not stay here. For his sake and yours, please convince him to leave immediately," reiterated the monk to Talon with a frown. "Such a being has no place in a monastery in the first place, and for a noble servant of the Queen like yourself to travel with him hardly seems to suit your respected status. Show him out, for all our sakes."
Vlad stood with a grim smirk as the guards, Kyosuke and Talon argued about his sentence. "Even if you convinced these whelps to request that i leave, I wouldn't. I have a score to settle with your tasty-looking high priest first," he sighed irreverantly with a dangerous glint in his red eyes.

Talon looked towards the vampire. "Can't you let him stay for one more night if he promises to do nothing? We will leave in the morning." Talon glanced back at the messanger. "It is vital that he remains with our party. I'm sure you would understand if those were the Queen's orders. She appointed him our guide and it is matters of state that the lady that was just wounded get to her Shogun. You wouldn't want to affect matters of state, would you?"

"The only chance that the high priest might agree to allow him to remain here is if he were quarantined to his quarters, and the quarantine enforced by holy forcefields," negotiated the monk.
This roused a pang of twisted laughter from the no-life king. "Does his holiness intend to send me to my room?" he quipped, but the rebellious danger was still there in his face.

"He agrees," Talon said for the vampire, shooting him a warning glance. He did not fear him, and knew well that the vampire had some ristraints placed on him by his queen.
"We will return to our quaters and would like anything we might need for our ingured party to be brought there. We will leave in the morning."

"Granted," agreed the monk, and a pair of stretchers arrived to carry Ylia and Shinobu back to the clinic where they could recover comfortably.
Vlad approached the messenger as the rest of the group departed and leaned into the monk's face, his mouth twisted into an intimidatingly crazed smile. "Did you think if 'good-sirTalon' commanded it, I would go sit in the corner like a good boy?"
The monk shuddered nervously and took a step back, but found himself suddenly raised off his feet and pinned against the wall by his neck. "Tell me what you fluffy-robed idiots did back there, or hold me over until I can ask the main course myself," he demanded amusedly in a low voice, taking some effort to keep up his bravado amidst the rising nausea in his chest.
"I d-don't know the full effects the spell would have on your kind," the monk choked out in terror, grasping onto Vlad's arm with both hands to ease his throat. "It's intended to expel impure elements within one's body and soul, but the incantation that was performed before was modified by the high priest and amplified by the joint spirit forces of a large number of monks...I don't know what it does!" The monk was beginning to look blue in the face. Vlad looked at him in disgust, seriously considering eating him.

Kyosuke decided to stay with Vlad for a bit. He watched as the vampire picked the monk up by the neck and wondered what they were discussing. Shrugging, and hoping the vampire wouldn't do too much, he walked off to follow Shinobu's stretcher. "Don't hurt him too much Vlad!" he called out as he left.
He caught up with the monks carrying Shinobu and Ylia and deciding to follow Shinobu's orders, he asked, "So where should I sleep?"

Talon looked at Vlad. "Stop... before you have us thrown out. If your going to eat him, wait until we leave tomorrow. At this point I have lost all faith in this place," Talon said, his eyes narrowing on the monk. "You can hold out that long, can't you?"
Shinobu looked up at the ceiling, her eyes drooping slightly. She was so very tired... but felt it odd to be calm. Should she be fearing for her life still... or was it just some random killing?

Kaze and Kami were ahead of the group, walking with one of the monks.
"Might we get a room?" Kami asked the monk polietly. The monk gave them a cautioned glance and Kaze's eyes flickered angrily.
"He has no intention of any wrong doing." she told the monk and Kami sternly. Kami grinned but the monk still gave them strange glances. The monk took them to a room and opened it for them, bowing respectivly, he left them.
Kami walked into the room and flopped onto the bed. "Ooh..comfy."
"Oh shut up and get to explaining things please." Kaze snapped. She was a little annoyed.
"Relax for once. Nothing's going to happen... I'll tell you everything." Kami told her seriously and they faced each other in deep conversation.

After Talon's words, Vlad threw more than set the half-strangled monk back on his feet and turned to go with the others, exceedingly annoyed with the entire situation. The monk frowned at the departing vampire, and turned quickly to make his report to the high priest.
"Have his room placed under a shield blessing until they depart," the priest instructed, and a squadron of high-ranking monks took off to carry out his instructions.
When they reached the clinic again, Shinobu and Ylia were shown into two comfortable hospital rooms where the doctor took proper care of them. He showed Kyosuke where a supply of mineralized sugar water was kept and urged him to encourage Shinobu to drink as much as possible. He wasn't sure about the nature of Ylia's condition was, but chose to treat it as a fever, putting her in a comfortable bed with several blankets and asking Talon to keep a cool, wet cloth over her forehead.
Meanwhile, Vlad was escorted by a very nervous monk into the next room by himself. Vlad had momentarily cheered himself in his situation by walking menacingly toward the monk, who stumbled fearfully backwards and wound up walking into something without fail every time he did it. The room he was led into was a very large, but more spartanly furnished one, with no exits except the one leading to the rest of the clinic. Once he was inside, another monk, taller and sterner in appearance, came to relieve the other of his duty. This new monk walked in behind Vlad and locked the door securely behind him.
"Are you the babysitter?" Vlad scoffed.
"That's correct," was all the monk said before taking a seat beside the door.
Vlad rubbed his chin thoughtfully, a mischievous smirk forming as he pondered what to do with his little playmate.

Shinobu closed her eyes... and opened them. She was very tired... She turned her head to the side and looked for Kyosuke, wanting to talk to him maybe...
Talon took a rag and dipped it in a bowl of cold clean water. He rung it out and then wiped the face of the elf woman on the bed before him. He didn't feel uncomfortable about the situation... He was just doing his duty for another person and duty had never emberassed him.
His thoughts trailed to his sister... he wondered how she was doing. What she was doing... He hoped she wasn't in any danger... just as he had hoped the same thing for so many years.

"What does it matter to you what I do with my life. You were never here. She killed me mother!" Tenele said and slammed her hands on the table. "I don't care what you say, I diserve to be the one who leads that party. It should be my right!"
"She was my mother to!" Talon said, standing up. "But, you are my sister. I lost my mother, I don't want to lose you to."
"I have no intention of dying," Tenele said in a matter-of-fact tone.
"By the gods your hard headed!" He threw his hands into the air.
"Get used to it," she spat.
"I don't care, I'll do everything in my power to make sure you don't go..."

OOC: Since Kami bio took me awhile to come up wiith, I encourage anyone interested in his background to check out his profile. Because it was so long I don't feel like retyping it ^-^;
"And that is all." Kami finished. The story took well over the hour he had planned on telling it because Kaze always interupted him. The candle was past it's half way mark now.
"You do not remember your real name?" Kaze asked him idly pondering his story.
"None. I barely even remember my time as a mortal on two legs. It's all a blurr."
"You poor man."
"Hey," Kami began to joke. "At least there's a lesson in the story. Don't make deals with crooked black birds. So now I have no soul.." Kami sighed, but he was surprisingly content. Kami stared off at the floor. Kaze pondered the idea of a black bird and her fleeting memory of being attack back at the palace came back to her.
"You helped me escape my own attacker..."
"Yes..."
"I owe you so much."
"Woah hey, let's not get all mushy here sweet heart." Kaze glared at him and Kami sighed again. "Anyway, it's more I owe you." he took her hands in his and rubbed the backs of her hands with his thumbs. "You gave me a name, and you're giving me hope that I can get my soul back."
Disspite herself, Kaze smiled and nodded. "I will galdly help, but it will have to wait. I have a pervious mission to this one and I vowed to finish it."
"I'll help you."
Kaze paused for a moment then smiled and nodded.

It was not long before Vlad became extremely bored in his quarters. He had begun to grow used to the ill feeling he had, tolerating it for the time being. He decided to give his 'babysitter' a good scare.
"Not even going to offer me a drink?" he criticized in a cryptic drawl.
"There is water and juice in the cupboard which you may drink at your convenience," the monk returned, unfazed.
"What's going on with the samurai woman?" he demanded, sounding more arrogant than concerned.
"I'm sure her friends are taking care of her. You needn't be involved," the monk said impatiently.
Vladimir smiled darkly. "Oh, forgive me. Am I a bother? Well then, I'll excuse myself." He walked toward the door indifferently.
"I understand your concern, but you must not open the door," the monk insisted, fear finally bridging into his voice.
"I'm not going to open the door," Vlad said seriously, drawing a look of confused relief from the monk. "I'll find my own way out." With that, Vlad narrowed his eyes and initiated his short-distance teleportation ability. As usual, the world went black for a moment, but instead of reappearing at the temple as he intended, a fierce white wall of light engulfed him and he felt as if a bolt of lightning racked his entire frame. He reappeared at the ceiling of the room and fell on his back to the floor with a loud crash, letting out a shocked, angry cry as the wind forced out of his lungs.
