Laya followed Telanis, though she was sure it was unwise for him to go. What if they had to fight? He wouldn't know how to take care of himself! She knew she would need to watch his back for him, because she had to protect him from those men... She cared little for herself, only for Telanis's safety. He was her hope, her light, and she would protect him as if she were chose by the God of Light to be his Guardian.
It was well past time for him to leave. It was dangerous to linger and Kratos received enough information to warn those at the capital and at least call for some aid. Now was the time to slip away...
"What about those outsiders, my lord?" someone asked. The Ruler took a moment to consider them then said.
"They've meddled enough, kill them on sight."
Kratos froze in his tracks as he turned to leave. They were in danger here. They had to go before his mother and others were dragged into this. His heart pounding, Kratos slipped away as fast, and steathily as he could to warn his friends.

Adonis watched Neko without really facing her as she spoke to him. Strange for a horse, eh? How dandy of her to notice. If he could have rolled his eyes, he would. But part of him knew it was nice, a relief to be recognized as something cognizant. At the same time, he couldn't so much as glance her way in response to her words without risking the confirmation of her theory. She was just talking because she wanted contact with something; like talking to a pet, half the satisfaction was knowing that it couldn't talk back, couldn't reject you, would never leave you. Adonis had been a pet before. Though this girl had an entirely different aura than that person, it still turned him off to be reminded of it.
But he didn't want her to leave, either. It wasn't that he hated her talking to him; just that he wanted to talk back. He wanted to be an equal, a sentient being that could discuss things that interested him and snap at someone if they walked away before he was done speaking. His patience had frayed as much as his innocence over the years, at least when it pertained to others' respect. Why did the concept of being forgotten bother him so much, when he couldn't respect humans enough to consider them real company? Being left in a stable the night before had been more draining than he could have expected.
It had been a few seconds. Now he could look at her without seeming too clever. Whoopie. He turned his neck sideways and looked at her, considering coaxing her into walking out with him into the sunlight, but remembering that he might be spotted. The front door of the house opened and closed again, and two pairs of legs padded quickly down the road. The unicorn twitched both ears toward the sound this time, concentrating and trying to pick their meaning out of the air. He couldn't find anything. If it was something serious, Telanis had his emotions well controlled. At the same time, it seemed strange for all three of them to leave the house, at different times, so soon.
* * *
Telanis took Laya by the hand, a practicality to make sure they weren't separated in the busy streets, but he found that he had little clue which way to go. Soon the streets they walked through grew quieter, and almost no one was outside except a few who rushed with their heads down. That seemed like a good sign that they were getting close to something important and a bad sign that if they were prudent, they ought to be going the other way.

Laya sighed. Good, they wouldn't be fighting, at least not today. She thought it was better to try and prepare Telanis, if he was bent on fighting with them.
"We do need to leave, because we need to think of a plan... and prepare those who do not know how to fight," she said, glancing towards Telanis.

While Kratos pulled his companions away from the danger, he slowly began to tell them what he had heard and the urgency for them to go now.
"...gather supplies, ready a few horses. We could be gone for the capital by nightfall and already be about halfway there. We should try to get a letter to the Queen of Ighten..." he was already formulating their first plan. If it went well, they could save Ongoreth from darkness.

"Who can we find that would carry the letter discretely... someone who would be caught by Arken soldiers.... or whoever these people are. Thye need to get the letter there safely...." Laya said as she stayed close to Telanis, as close as he would want her to stay. She was afraid to push him, still remembering what he had been through. It still pissed her off.

Telanis looked at Kratos thoughtfully as he explained his plan. So they were to travel again...that was almost a relief, except he had the bad feeling they might be going someplace worse. Laya stood close beside him, and he tried to pay attention to only the positive feelings that it caused. Regardless, they needed to pick a plan and act on it quickly, and he had to hope Kratos knew what he was doing. "What shall I do to help?" he asked quietly.

OOC: I hope you don't mind, but since the thread seems to be stuck I'll fast forward us back to the house... and if it still gets stuck.... I'll Laya will kidnap Telanis and have her way with him!
IC: Back at the house Laya was standing on the porch while everyone else was inside discussing plans and other things that were of importance. She didn't care about important things at the moment. The only thing she really cared about was figuring out a way to do all of this and keep the Unicorn/Man safe.
He knew nothing of fighting and violence and the more she looked at it the more it seemed like for Telanis to be involved would be a VERY bad idea. But, was there anyway of really stopping him? If he wanted to do it she couldn't stop him... or could she?
"That's ridiculous," she told herself at the idea of maybe... stealing Telanis away and going someplace less violent came into her head. "He's a hundred feet taller than me... I couldn't possible drag or carry him." She thought.

Telanis took a slow, tired breath as he stepped outside the house into the dusk air. Kratos had asked for time alone, to talk with his family and choose their path. Telanis knew he would be of no use in their planning; what did he know of planning war?
His slender body felt unnecessarily heavy and awkward as he walked on two legs to the rail of the porch. As his mind cleared, his senses noticed Laya there on the other side of the porch from him. She seemed to be thinking about something. Donning a friendly smile, he walked up and crossedhis arms on the railing next to her, leaning down to rest on it and peer around at her face. "Kratos and Neko's mother said she bought carrots in town for dinner," he gushed warmly.

Laya smiled at Telanis. "Oh, how I love carrots," she told him, brushing a strand of hair from her face and looking back to the yard. Silence again.
Finally she turned to Telanis. "Telanis," she said gently. "You don't have to fight in this war. We could go back to your forest.... You and I, and leave them to there fighting."

Telanis laughed gently, moving a hand to subconsciously push back a nonexistant strand of hair from his face. It was a nervous, human gesture. "I'm grateful for your offer, but I cannot take that option. We will be much needed here." There was nothing he wanted more than to agree, and ask Laya to help him get home. But what would become of the other humans he'd chosen to protect if he followed his own desires? He wasn't human enough to do that.

Laya looked back out to the yard. "You could get killed," she said softly, looking down at the hard earth. "Humans care not who they hurt, or how. Telanis... war is not something you just jump into because you feel you have too. You have to way the consequences, the possibilities."
She turned away from him for a moment. "You do not know how to fight the human way. You... you could get killed."

Telanis looked down at his wrists, one crossed carefully over the other. How could he explain? It would be impossible for him to overcome his nature. He was needed; he was compelled to stay. Even if he couldn't even...
"I have encountered warriors in the woods. Their wounds were often so great that I could barely approach them. I have seen at least that much of war. There will be suffering there that only I can alleviate. That's why I need to..." He glanced at her with a smile half-dead on his lips.

"Stay," she finished his sentence for him. She sighed. There was no talking him out of it. He was as hard-headed as a man. Even if he was a unicorn.
"Then I can't change your mind," she said softly. She looked back at him. "Well, I'll stay then, too." She smiled at him. "Can't let you stay here all alone, who would teach you how to act human?"
Though she smiled there was a sadness behind her eyes, one that said she feared for his life.
