Lore: The ravages of summer
"Marvelous. Truly marvelous," Vairah said - which was about as effusive as she ever got. But even the delightful prospect of rooms full of books could only distract her for so long. An'thinal was so personable that it was suspicious in itself. If she wanted something from Vairah, though, wouldn't she have used the mind control skill she'd admitted so freely to possessing? Or were other magic users immune?
She met the other woman's eyes and got directly back to her point. "Is your violin inherently magical or does the power come from you? Would you be able to do workings on another instrument? ...If you don't mind. I only ask because the creation of illusions is a fairly time-consuming process and I'm looking into magical artifacts to refine my abilities."

An'thinal's eyes glowed with pride over her books.

An'thinal thought for a moment, trying to figure out the best way to explain her ablities to Elanda.
"The power comes from me, But it is honned by the cords on the violin really." She explained while picking one of her many comfy chairs to sit in. She gestured for Elanda to sit down in front of her as well. "The cords are made from a special flower known to Dark Magic, the Black Rose, only its rare and only grows in the Border."

"Tons." An'thinal remarked. "By just having its scent upon your fingers can make a person violently halucinate. The Black Rose's scent is very powerful, even being near a person who had come in contact with the pure source causes halucinations." The Black Rose's powers always fascinated An'thinal, but she was only ever able to get one if she needed new strings...
"Hallucinations?" Vairah was interested now, sitting forward in her chair with an eagerness she would've thought unbecoming if she'd noticed it. Illusion was much like the inspiration of controlled mass hallucinations, or at least ought to be - she wanted badly to do some research into the connection. Regaining a modicum of self-control, she said slowly, "And you say it only grows on the Border?"
((Sorry about the delay and craptacularly short post... Full IB courseload is a bitch and it is slowly draining all my precious brain matter away.))
"I would indeed be interested," Vairah said carefully, "but I must warn you that if you intend to continue this discussion, it would be best not to let me examine them yet. I can be rather... single-minded."

An'thinal giggled a tad stiffly. When it came to her books... she was a bit protective.
"Even if you tried I bet you wouldn't get past the front door." she said, a bit of an untouched challenge in her voice but she clapped her hands together. "Since you are so interested in knowledge, my library is open to you whenever you please." An'thinal more than welcomed her into her library, she welcomed her into her home pratically. Not that she knew that herself.

Vairah smiled suddenly, and her teeth shone a bit too white against her dark skin. "Of course, of course," she said evenly, "I meant no offense. Although..." She tapped a finger to her lips. "I hadn't planned on staying in the area long - too bloody hot - but if your library is open and you aren't merely saying that to be polite, I may need to adjust those plans." She seemed to give no consideration whatever to the fact that An'thinal hadn't offered her a place to stay, presuming that arrangements would be made to that effect straightaway. She was tactful enough (barely) not to say so outright, of course.
An'thinal smiled a somewhat twisted smile. This woman was deffinatly someone with a clever mind and should be handeled with the utmost care. The last thing she wanted was one of her precious books stolen.
There was a thud from upstairs and her eyes flicked to the stairs in a snap. She frowned and stood up warily. Maybe one of her books just fell? No, she wasn't that careless to put them away so they'd fall off a shelf. Someone was up there... That didn't make her too happy.
An'thinal was swift to get to the stairs. "Pardon, but peculiar sounds come from my library upstairs." her voice was dangerously low, but pleasant enough not to alarm her guest.
