Lore: Destroy all that Binds

The Mountain of May'em is one of the largest mountains in Heirot, standing like a shadow over the Ishtassy village. To get to the village you must travel through the Ra'esh Desert and over the mountain.

"Uh... sort of?" she said in a questioning way and grinned.

Well, they didn't have a chance of getting out of here if he was too weak to move on his own, or fight like Soran could fight.

She thought it over... and came to her decision.

She pounced.

She pounced right on him and wrapped her arms around him and concentrated as quickly as she could to channel into that ability that would bring her pain in a few minutes.

Mizuki blinked at Rai as she pounced Soran. She wondered if that was the safest thing to do on him. But she shrugged, the kid missed Soran. Mizuki looked back to Siren to see how she was doing.

"We should probably get moving soon." Mizuki glanced at Mayn and made a gesture asking what would they do with her?

Soran swallowed a gasp as Rai's body added weight to his shattered wrists. He felt a familiar tingling touch his senses and shook his head at her.

"Don't even think about it," he said.

He heard a click as Mizuki managed to maneuver the lock and grit his teeth. The brace popped open and he landed on his feet, arms falling weakly to his sides. It took some focus to make his legs support him. He rested one hand around Rai's small form against him, and stepped forward to embrace Mizuki tightly. Mizuki's cool cheek felt good against his feverish neck.

A moment later, the pain he'd known was coming finally flooded into his senses as the circulation returned to his palms and arms. He'd hoped hold on to Mizuki a moment longer before it kicked in, but the strength suddenly washed out of his arms and dizziness consumed him. He let go of Mizuki and knelt to the floor to keep from falling there, the room blurring to white.

Mayn struggled half-heartedly against SIren's whip, indignant but too scared to strike out. She wondered where Reya was. Normally her security measures would ahve alerted her to the slightest presence in her dungeon, let alone in the central chamber.

Rai still hugged him, but switched until she was almost practically on his back.

She concentrated harder, trying to see if she could heal certain parts, but found it hard.

So she just stuck with what she knew. So she concentrated.

Soon she felt a world of hurt, but held on tighter. She squeezed her eyes shut, clenched her fists harder, wondering why no one had pulled her off yet like they usually did.

A small drop of blood appeared in most of the same places Soran had wounds, and the longer she held on, the bigger it got.

Mizuki embraced Soran has he held onto her. She had to hold back more tears but when Soran fell to his knees she let them go. She lowered herself to him and without any regard to the others around him she kissed his face.

"They'll pay for what they've done to you." She swore to him and touched her forehead to his fever hot one. Then the fever hotness of his skin began to receed and Mizuki looked at him wondering if she was losing him. But he was still conscious. "Rai.." She looked to find Rai, clinging onto Soran and bleeding. She was healing him, and suffering.

Soran met Mizuki's kiss blindly, clinging to the only sensation he wanted to be aware of at that moment. A moment later, his sight began slowly returning, Mizuki blurring into focus in front of him. The pain was receding. In the back of his mind, he knew this wasn't possible. That only Rai could be doing this, and that the girl would be enduring it in his stead. Relief and panic went through him at once; he had to make her stop. He raised a hand - the skin of his severed palm now smooth - and placed it firmly on Rai's shoulder. He tilted her chin up with his thumb and looked into her pained eyes. "That's enough," he said with gentle firmness, his breath easier now. "Thank you." He helped the pained child forward into his arms, resting her against his chest.

With a steadying breath he got back to his feet. His external wounds were gone, gashes and blood cleared away. Without the pain, his head was already clearing, and his body felt lighter. It was still drained where energy and blood were concerned, but at least his body could move the way he wanted it to.

With his eyes finally cleared, he looked at Mizuki again, and at Siren. "You disobeyed me, Siren," he said, watching the angel's wings stiffen. But he just shook his head and half-laughed. "Some 'servant' I have," he said, his tone sounding more like praise than criticism. But I couldn't ask for a better friend, he thought, keeping it to himself.

"It's so good to see you," he said quietly to Mizuki, cupping his hand around her cheek. He still couldn't quite believe it.

"It's so good to see you,"

"It's better seeing you." Mizuki responded her eyes were bright. His touch felt warm and healthy. Mizuki laied her hand on Rai's head gently before realizing they need to get out quickly. Her eyes hardened with that realization. "We need to go."

Rai groan slightly when Soran moved. She she was too weak to keep her arms around his neck so they slipped off. She pinned her shaking hands between her body and Soran's. She didn't say anything, she was too busy clenching her teeth. But, she knew this had to be done.

Reya pushed past a group of students who were pressing toward her with yet another question. There was so much procedure and tiresome detail to worry about during orientation, she'd already been stopped several times on her path to the dungeon. Finally, she just shook her head at them. She looked back at Jhaptal and gave him a look that told him to take care of the issue and meet her there, which she knew he would understand. Closing her eyes, she prepared to teleport down to the dungeons.

"Good girl," Soran soothed, cradling Rai as gently as he could. "Let's move," he agreed to Mizuki and they began to run toward the door they'd come in by. Just as they were about to reach it, however, the door slammed shut, lined with a violet aura that was far stronger than before.

"I don't know who you are, but that one belongs to me," a stern, yet beautiful female voice spoke from across the room. Reya stepped forward, eyeing her strange collection of intruders questioningly before recognizing their features. One half elf woman and child. A dark angel. This was Soran's 'family' Jhaptal had spoken of. "I admire your resourcefulness in getting here," she said, eyeing Mayn emotionlessly, "but you're not going anywhere. Soran, come here."

Mizuki stepped in front of Soran, probably a foolish move but she did it anyway. Her eyes were hard, and becoming colder as she glared Reya down. This was the woman who had ordered Soran's capture... and torture. She'd get no mercy out of Mizuki like another had the first time.

"He's overstayed his time here. He's coming home." It was not an option coming out of Mizuki's mouth.

Rai listened quietly, half alert anyway.

"Soran come here," she heard an unfamiliar voice say.

"He's not a puppy," Rai muttered tiredly. "Shea wannabe..."

"Oh shit..." Siren mouthed, sensing the very strong magical auro on this one. It had been going too well till then. She looked down at Mayn, wondering if she could use the little girl for leverage.

She moved slowly, unthreateningly, towards her companions, tugging Mayn along slightly, just in case she needed to quickly incapacitate the child and defend them.

Reya smirked at her overconfident guests. "I'm afraid he's not going anywhere until I'm through with him, but if you really wish, you can share in his fate.

"Reya," Soran warned. He knew she was powerful; he could tell just by being near her, like part of her was radiating inside him, though he couldn't explain why. He'd never had any magical intuition before. Escaping her compound would have been one thing, but if they fought her directly, she might kill the others as well.

"Reya what?" she demanded flatly, stepping toward them fearlessly.

"Let them go."

Reya narrowed her eyes, anger flaring up with jealousy. "Why. What are they to you, Soran? Do you trust them that much?"

Soran frowned, confused by the accusation in her voice. As if he were a lover caught cheating. "What am I to you, Reya? Answer that first."

Reya glanced away; an odd gesture. When she looked up again, she wasn't quite meeting his eyes. "If they insist on staying with you, your friends can watch. I won't waste any more time on this nonsense." She thrust her arms out and suddenly all but Soran, including Mayn, were hurled backwards toward the wall. A shimmering barrier formed like blue-tinted glass around them. It was soundproof and breakproof, set to deliver a magic charge to any flesh that touched it.

"Mizuki!" Soran shouted, turning toward the barrier. He couldn't see anything inside; the glass was one-way. Remembering the mental connection he'd experienced with her occasionally, but not knowing how to control it, he reached out for it with all his focus. Mizuki, can you hear me?

The wind was knocked out of her lungs as Mizuki hit the ground. Her eye sight was blotted black for several moments before she regained herself. They were trapped, she didn't need to touch anything to know that much. She could see Soran but she couldn't hear his shout. She cursed.

Mizuki wipped her mouth and checked the others, including the girl who was formly they capture. This was exactly why they had to get in and out fast.

Mizuki, can you hear me?

Yes, she responded. That was the only they they could speak to each other. I'd take it that I shouldn't touch anything? She stared at the shimmering barrier, and glared past Soran to Reya. This woman had issues and she was taking them out on them. Why?

Mayn pushed dizzily to her feet. Just feeling a taste of Reya's power left her dazed, but as soon as she looked around and realized where she was, she was seriously peeved. "Lady Reya!" she screamed angrily, pounding on the wall and getting a nasty shock. "How dare she throw me in here too... she's tossing me out?" She crossed her arms indignantly, half pouting and half fuming. Reya had abandoned her just like that. She wanted out of this cell so she could scream at her. Bad. She looked up as she sensed an interesting magical energy coming from Mizuki. "What is that?" she asked her slowly. "Right now... what are you doing?"

"Hang on, I'll find a way to get you ou-" Soran broke off as an unseen force suddenly closed over his body like a brace and lifted him up. He floated to the center of the room where Reya stood watching him with steel blue eyes until he stood in front of her, arms and legs unable to move from his sides.

"You mean a lot to me, Soran," she said, looking into his eyes. "You're a thorn in my foot. The only obstacle standing between me and my goals. Without you, I can have all that I've always desired." She reached up and stroked his cheek with a warm hand. "All except you." As she spoke, the ground beneath Soran began to glow, an intricate circular rune painted in growing green light spreading across the floor for several yards all around him.
