Character Creation Q&A

Post your new character's information. The jobs/classes and races are found on the home page. You do not have to put one of the jobs listed there.

Character Creation Q&A

Post by Kyosuke »

Thank you for joining Heirot! Character creation guidelines can be found at http://www.heirot.net/rules.html.

Anybody with questions can post them in here. An admin will answer then for you. Even another member with suitable advice can come along and respond though the final say of whether it will be approved or not will be by the admins. If you feel embarrassed to ask in a thread, you may also PM an admin or IM it. All of the admins have an AOL Instant Messanger screen name that we can be reached at.

One thing I will say first however, is regarding weaknesses. I have a strong feeling that I will be running into many questions about that. I've both experienced and noticed that people have a hard time coming up with weaknesses for their characters. I've also further noticed that in response to that, people tend to start making a lack of strength into a weakness. A lack of an ability is not a weakness. There are exceptions to that rule, such as an inability to speak being a social weakness, but if you wish to list a lack of an ability as a weakness, make it clearly stated.

Here is also some advice for weaknesses that people can use.

My first piece of advice is to try to encorporate some type of character flaw. Hubris, laziness, forgetfullness, etc. can be used as interesting weaknesses. Sometimes, the stranger the weakness, the more fun, or at least challenging, it is to role play.

My second piece of advice is to use the generic weaknesses of a job class' type. I would hope not to see too many of these, for it is always more enjoyable for role playing if people come up with interesting weaknesses to use.

Melee fighting characters, such as knights and samurais, would generally have a weakness to distance attacks such as magic or ranged weapons.

Ranged weapon using characters, such as archers, often have the tendancy to only have basic melee fighting skills. Magic would also be useful against them, but they have a better defense with their range.

A magic user tends to be physically weaker than weapon users. They also tend to lack melee fighting skills. Depending on the type of magic user, their incantations may also take up a certain amount of time or require some sort of sacrifice that is hard to get or may even be only used under certain conditions.
