Thomas didn't really have an answer. "I...I don't know. I saw a flash of light and what looked like some sort of bubble around the column of dark elves. Then I felt this urge to raise my hand towards it and I saw it go away, and I felt an energy coursing through my hand...This has never happened before. It's all since I just woke up and had those weird tattoos on my face."

Carnthir studied him curiously for a moment then peered back towards the rogues. Lightning bolted over the emerald roof of the palace. Thunder followed it quickly. The rained poured down through the trees.

The elf wiped his face and tried to clear his mind. His thoughts were interrupted by a terrible blast. The emerald dome sparked and shattered as a fiery blast struck it from evil clouds that lingered over head.

Carnthir stood in awe at the catastrophe. He could feel hot blood rushing though his veins. The first thought was of his family. Rage filled his mind and his heart pounded against his chest. This was his home, and now it was gone. He rushed out at the sorcerers, sword drawn. His bow was now latched to his back.

Thomas wanted to follow, even though he knew they'd probably both die if they fought them. He suddenly raised his hands, seeing that same bubble, and imagined it away. Just like before, it flashed and was gone. He turned to the dome, then to Carnthir. "He can handle himself. I need to see if there's anyone inside." He ran towards the ruins of the once mighty castle, hoping to find any survivors inside.

Carnthir darted to the left as the dark mage fired at him again. He spun and slashed, the rogue retaliated with a blade that seemed to come out of nowhere. Carnthir parried the counter attack and quickly prepared for the next blow.

The evil fiend that faced the palace turned to the elf. He pulled a red sword from within his black cloak. The earth shook as he laughed. The crimson blade flashed with a blinding light.

****************

Dol and Estela rushed through the burning rubble. Other survivors followed close behind. All the elves were equipped with bows. Dol stopped as he saw Thomas fast approaching.

Thomas stopped before them, doing a quick bow, "Thank the gods you're alright. Is this everyone in the castle behind you? Or are there more people trapped inside?" He suddenly felt the earth shake and turned to be blinded by a crimson blade. He tried to see past it, but could not.

Carnthir turned and shielded his eyes with his shoulder. Being an elf, magis was in Carnthir's blood. However, he never felt inclined to learn more than he had to.

The Silinde soldiers that followed him to the city rushed to his side once again. Carnthir turned to the dark magicians and loosed two arrows simultaneously. The other three soldiers did the same.

The warlocks repelled the arrows and laughed mockingly. "Take cover!" Carnthir ordered retreating behind a tree. A river of fire blasted him and his men.

There has to be a way to stop them, he thought as he watched the evil doers.

*******************

Dol raised a hand for Thomas to slow down. "Breathe boy," His voice remained calm even at this dark time. "We are the only survivors from the blasts."

He fiery blast rush past the soldiers. "We have to stop these two before they destroy the forest."

He raised a hand and an infantry of elven soldiers lined up behind him. They were 150 strong. All the soldiers that Carnthir had left behind and manged to escape the surprise attack. "Fall in behind me," he told Thomas.

*******************

Coia dropped down with the remaining soldiers and wiped out the Mori Quessir that survived the arrows. Unlike before, the dark elves from Arken's belly were prepared for the attack. They countered the wood elves efforts but still lost the battle. Coia led the remaining troops of his company back to the burning city. They would return for their dead kindred but had to protect the living first. The drow had hurt them badly this time taking out a good two thirds of their soldiers.

Coia sighed as he approached the crumbling city. He saw Carnthir and quickly made his way to his side. The few surviving Silinde scattered into the forest.

Thomas did as he was told. He followed behind Dol's men, drawing his bow and waiting for any order needed.

"What's going on?" Coia asked. His voice was still calm and steady despite his haste back to the rubble of Camthalion.

Carnthir saw the handful of men that returned with Coia. A look of exasperation emboldened his face. This had to end. The only way to fight magic is with magic. "These two have destroyed half the city." Coia peaked from his cover.

Carnthir saw his father, Dol, and contacted him with his mind. Dol glanced up and saw Carnthir and his comrades. He knew what he had to do. "Thomas?" Dol called then he whispered something to Estela. She turned and gathered all the surviving women and children, and they left the battleground.

Thomas ran forward, "I'm here."

"How well can you control your magic?" Dol asked. It would take all the power they could use. These dark beings were very powerful.

Carnthir told Coia of the plan and the elf quickly departed from his leader. Coia gathered the some troops and they dispersed into the treetops.

The dark warlocks smiled brightly as they watched the elves. They seemed calm though they knew that they wouldn't escape the wood elves strong hold.

Carnthir stepped from his hiding place an fired off a stream of five arrows. All were deflected except for one that struck the lead wizard in inside of his right thigh. Carnthir wasn't worried about killing them, only distracting the magic users while Dol spoke with Thomas.

Thomas shook his head, "I'm not sure. I didn't know I had them until now." He wish he could have a clear answer, but he didn't.

Dol sighed at the response. "Retreat back with the others. You can leave with the others or you are free to go." Dol could have used his help, but couldn't afford to have a spell backfire.

Thomas wouldn't run. He had already started fighting these dark elves. He was going to finish what he started. Thomas said, "I wish to stay and help anyway I can, sir."

Dol turned to his son, Carnthir. He knew that something had to be done. The human proved to be a good and loyal warrior and Dol wouldn't refuse his help.

"Alright," he said. His voice was powerful and majestic. "Go to Carnthir and ask where he needs you." he nodded. "But keep to the brush and out of sight of those demons."

Carnthir dodged and darted back into cover as the wizards blasted bolt after bolt of magic at him.

Thomas nodded, running off and after Carnthir and nearly getting hit by one of those bolts. He got down into cover and turned to Carnthir. "I've decided to stay and help you."
