(Lore) Recovering

The shores of Ighten are beautiful beaches with white sand, palm trees, shacks and houses with people that live along it. It's also an easy way for Arken people to enter Ighten, since it is more or less unguarded. Sometimes wrecked ships wash ashore.

Adonis looked sideways at Neko, wondering why the girl had to walk back here. He really wanted to be away from the humans as much as possible, but something kept him from falling further back. Probably her tears... So I can't keep them from manipulating me, even now, he mused to himself in irritation.

While he was focusing on her, he planted his injured front foot down on an uneven patch in the ground and it bore his weight at a bad angle. It was hardly enough to send him stumbling, but it reminded him of his injury. WIth a slight hop, he took his weight off his leg and began favoring it lightly. It seemed he would heal more slowly than usual here.

Adonis' sudden trip jolted Neko from her despair and she looked at the dark horse with curious, red-rimmed eyes.

"You alright horesy?" She asked him in soft tones as if he could understand her. Neko placed her hand on Adonis' closest flank and patted him lightly.

Adonis's attention shot back to Neko as she touched him. It hurt his pride to be confused with a horse, but he reminded himself that that was his intention. He wanted to slide away, but there wasn't much to be done if he wanted to keep a low profile. His ears twitched back reflexively and his neck tensed.

Neko let her hand drop and she stared at the ground with sad eyes.

"It shouldn't hurt this much, I barely knew him." she said to herself, which also sounded as if she was also talking to the horse. She was confused and also hurt, she didn't know how to think or feel.

Adonis listened to her words silently. He was the one confused. She was still thinking about that? Why should she care? Humans were so fickle. She didn't really care about him, so whatever was bothering her must be related to something else and confusing her. He made a low nicker of annoyance.

Neko closed her eyes and sighed, the horse's nicker made her fall silent, as if she understood it's meaning. "Sorry," she apologized for no apparent reason. She walked on besides the horse while they traveledthrough the trees. It seemed an never ending path they were taking, but so far it was the best course of action they could take.

"He was nice, even if he didn't want to be," Laya said softly. "He might blaim us for helping the unicorn, but he still couldn't hurt us. Deep down he's a good creature," she looked at Telanis so only he could see and winked at him lightly.

Telanis looked at Laya, a pulse of happiness waving out of him. ~It seems you two had a chance to talk,~ he said.

All night, she thought back to him softly, patting his neck caringly.

Telanis had so many things he wanted to ask Laya about his brother. He himself hadn't been able to get any straight conversation out of him since their parting of ways. ~"How...is he?~ Telanis asked her ambiguously, not sure himself what he meant by the question.

Adonis walked on with them for some time, doing his best to ignored the human girl beside him. Soon his ankle healed completely. The cloth Laya had tied onto him hung loose now that the wetness of the wound was replaced by his velvet fur, and he grew tired of it sliding around his hoof. He made a few mild efforts to shake it off mid-step without breaking pace from the group or calling too much attention to himself. Eventually he stopped moving for a moment and tried pulling it off with his teeth, but the knot was hard to undo that way. He dropped his foot back down somberly, wondering how he was going to get the dumb thing off.

Neko looked back at the dark horse. She looked at him curiously through tired brown eyes, red rimmed from her tears. He wanted that cloth of his leg. Unconciously, without any thought, Neko knelt down before the horse and began meticulously untying the knot in place. She didn't say a word, she just kept untying the knot until it was finaly lose and slipped off the horse's hoof.

"There you go," she said tiredly and stood up.

Laya looked at Telanis for a moment, trying to come up with a way to tell him how his brother was. He is bitter, she thought softly, lowering her gaze. Its frightening, almost, how much he and I have in common. He let his turn inward.... I have been fighting that. I refuse to hate the world when it still has so much goodness. Your brother could have let me drown. I tried to drown myself.... But, he wouldn't let me. He saved me over and over again and I don't know if he even knows why. I guess because we are alike.

Adonis tensed as the girl came nearer to him and began removing the bandage. He snorted disapprovingly and drew back a bit, but her gentle hands followed and removed the bandage for him.

"There you go," she told him tiredly. Adonis wondered why she was speaking to him. He was, after all, just a horse to her. Humans didn't respect other species enough to talk to them; in his experience, they weren't even treated as living. However, with this person, that did not seem to be the case. Having her so near to him forced him to notice the redness in her eyes. He had tried to block out her sadness some time ago, but apparently she had been crying for a good while. It surprised and confused him.

He looked at her skeptically and made a very low nicker of gratitude.

Telanis listened to Laya thoughtfully. ~I see.~ he said, looking her in the eye. ~Thank you for saving him.~

Neko smiled weakly. She patted the dark horse's head gently, feeling his soft mane before finaly pulling away.

"Come now," she urged him to follow her before the rest of the group got too far away. Kratos eventually got tired of wandering around this forest that seemed to be getting denser. He was starting to have doubts that there was anything like a town within.

"Let's rest." he said to the group and sat down on a boulder. There was a small stream running nearby towards the beach where they had come. He drank from it deeply, it was hot in the forest.

She looked at him confused. Maybe she should explain so he knows who saved who... He saved me, more than he knows probably. The captain washed on shore... I was afraid he would try and use Adonis... We faught and he almost stabbed me... But Adonis scared him somehow... So I knocked him unconcious... The next morning he attacked me, revenge I suppose. He was going to... to, eh, rape me... I feel horrible. I think he killed for me or maybe he did it for himself. I don't know. I still feel bad about it.
