Lore: Forgotten Enemies

The city closest to the border. It is a city filled with traveling people and inns that hold many of the roughest people in Ighten. It's a good place to find weapons and an even better place to find trouble.

Soran blinked at her, realizing he hadn't explained that. Well, it couldn't hurt to tell her if he'd alraedy said this much. "My memories of everything up to twelve years ago are entirely missing. People, places, everything," he said indifferently. "If I had a relationship like that, I certainly don't remember it, and I've long since stopped expecting to.

"Nothing? It's just blank? So you don't even know how old you are? For all you know you could have a wife and 5 kids running around somewhere..."

Siren was silent, trying to erase the mental image of five little pointy-eared Blade's without wings running around.

Soran twitched. "I suppose that's possible," he conceded distastefully. "I don't think I'm that old..." He thought about the condition he'd been in when he'd first come to in the forest and his expression sobered. "If there were people like that around me, they either turned against me or were better off without me."

Siren frowned. She was familiar with the feeling of not being wanted around, if nothing else of his description.

"That must be pretty rough. Nothing has ever come back?" Then a thought... "What about your name? How did you... know?"

"I just knew. Just like I know how to fight. And I know battle tactics and survival techniques, horsemanship, geography.. I go by instinct, and I seem to do fine. Interesting breed of amnesia," he said, leaning back in his chair to try to relax a bit. He glanced at Siren testingly. "Bet you didn't realize you were signing up to serve a brain case," he teased.

Siren grinned back at him.

"Aren't I always though? I guess the mentally disturbed type just attracts me," she teased, shrugging her shoulders.

"But back to the topic, I don't think Mizuki is afraid of you exactly. Probably more like the possibility of something going wrong. You'll just have to go slowly with her and make sure she feels comfortable too. Maybe it has somthing to do with that guy from her past she met. You know, bringing back memories of past problem lovers. It's easy to see how she might project that onto you."

Soran realized uncomfortably that Siren was giving him advice for establishing a romance with Mizuki. Part of him wanted to curtly reject the presumptuous theory that anything was going on between them. The other part...well the other part won the floor. "You're saying you think that person is a former romantic interest of hers?" he queried flatly.

"Ahh, not exactly... It's not like she's fantasizing about some other guy! She's just remembering bad memories, and since you're her current love interest, she's replaying them with you. That's my unprofessional opinion anyway. Hey, shouldn't you be asking her about this?" Siren laughed. She didn't want to get Soran jealous or insecure or aything.

Soran's expression tightened at Siren's blatant reference to him as Mizuki's love interest, and was made worse at her suggestion of approaching Mizuki directly on the topic. "Of course not," he said coldly. "I think you're seriously misunderstanding the situation here."

"I'm missunderstanding?" Siren raised her eyebrows in dissbelief. "You saw the picture I drew, right? If that isn't proof enough that something's going on, look into her eyes sometime when you're alone. It'll be plain enough. Even if you're in denile, she certainly isn't, although she's being rather shy about it." Siren crossed her arms and quirked her head with a knowing smile, finding it hilarious that the only person who didn't see it was Soran himself.

"Admit it, you like her too."

Soran glowered at the angel indignantly, startled by her direct question. "Even if your flawed theory was true, it's not something - wouldn't be something I'd just blurt out," he said sharply and, to his dismayed realization, defensively.

"Yes yes, we know that. It's never a simple sort of realization... So what did you do when she told you about the dream? Any why were you sneaking into her room to begin with?" Siren smirked mischeviously. If he wouldn't admit it, there was no use pushing him, but she might be able to show him a thing or two about his feelings using his own actions.

"I had to convince her it wasn't real, and then we just discussed dreams for a minute before I left. And I didn't sneak in. Blade managed to get in here, so I had to bring him back before she got worried," he said, recalling the child's idolizing stare for a moment.

"Ok, let's think about that for a minute... why do you think the kid likes you so much? And I'll tell you right now that he's far too young for self-awareness, so it's not because of the similarity in appearence."

The elf looked at her strangely, not sure what she was getting at any more. "I'm probably just the only male he's used to, so he labels me as he does." He didn't mention the odd flash of understanding that seemed to take place whenever his eyes met Blade's.
