Lore: Forgotten Enemies

The city closest to the border. It is a city filled with traveling people and inns that hold many of the roughest people in Ighten. It's a good place to find weapons and an even better place to find trouble.

OOC: I'm going to be gone tonight, so just move Rai around to keep the thread active :P

IC: Rai giggled as she ate the role, clapping with her mouth full. "Neat!" she said giggling, her feet swinging back and forth under the tabe.

Jhaptal smiled and started adding his glass of milk to the mix of things being juggled, switching between juggling them with both hands and single hands. Not a single drop of milk spilled from the act. Then he caught the milk with one hand, set it down, and made the utensils disappear again.

Siren panicked in her mind for an instant as she felt her wings tangle and pulled on something, unable to reach the surface again...

She woke up groggily, only to find that the thing snagging her wing had been Soran. He looked perturbed, but Siren was too freshly woken to take his state of mind into consideration.

"Hey... That was a perfectly good swim dream... I could almost feel what it was like that time..." She sighed and sat up, curling her legs up by her sides and arching her but up and back so that her back followed and she was in an upright-slump. She rubbed at her eyes for a moment then looked at him againn, a bit more alert now.

"Something wrong?"

Soran's attention went back to Siren as she groggily awakened. "I'm fine," he said methodically. "What is a swim dream?"

Siren thoguht for a moment. "Well, I hear a lot that humans and other wingless peoples have dreams of flying and such, dreaming of things they just can't have," there was no mockery or superiority in her voice, though she was obviously proud of her wings, "well, because we can fly, we don't do so well in the water... Try dragging these things," she motioned to her wings, "through water sometime. It isn't pleasant. We sink much better than we swim. So, sometimes I just dream of what it would be like to swim and not have wings for a little while."

She shrugged her shoulders as if it was a perfectly normal sentimment.

"But anyway, that was a distraction. I know something's up." Siren flopped back down onto her side next to Soran, looking up at his face curiously.

The rogue listened to Siren attentively; he was particularly interested in dreams lately. He meant to ask more about it, but Siren's second insistence that something was wrong with him diverted him.

"How could something be up? I've been awake all of five minutes. All I did was bring Blade back to the other room," he asserted, wondering what about his demeanor she was reacting to.

Siren stared at him a moment, then sat up on the edge of the bed facing him, quirking an eyebrow.

"Well, I wouldn't normally consider pulling on someone's wing to wake them up then sitting nearby looking like you were either really constipated or deeply concerned about something to be normal..."

Soran twitched. "It seemed like the appropriate way to wake up a... you," he argued.

Siren sat there thinking of a whitty retort.... and sat...

"True enough I guess," she conceded. "But the constipated part still stands. No one is that thoughtful so early in the morning without reason. It just isn't plausible, even for you!"

"And there must be a lot on your mind, considering I made it to the bed alive.. which, mind you, was no easy task. You twitched when i went by as if you were getting ready to slice me in half in your sleep!" She was exaggerating a litte.. but why not.

Soran glowered at the angel. Constipated? he baffled inwardly. "Mizuki just saw something in her sleep that I wouldn't have expected." He thought for a moment and looked at Siren piercingly. "You dream about swimming because you want to swim? Or because you're afraid to swim? Would you dream of it if you weren't concerned with it while you were awake?" he asked her carefully.

Siren's ears perked up a bit at this. She had never considered that before.

"Well... I would like to swim, and the dreams are generally a good feeling... But I suppose it does scare me in a way. Like when you woke me up... When I felt my wings again it was like they were stuck on someting and I couldn't escape and they were dragging me down. When the reality of my wings is brought back into the dream, it gets frightening. So I guess there is an element of fear in it. Granted I've never really tried swimming in deep water, and I only go into lakes and pools and such when needed for bathing, so I don't know for sure what would happen if i tried, but I could never be good at it, couldn't be fast."

Siren looked into Soran's eyes. "I'm not even sure that answered your question. What sort of dream did she have? Any why is it worrying you so?"

The rogue frowned at the wood floor. Siren's answer was interesting, and yet didn't resolve what he was worrying about. He decided to explain the situation. She seemed to know a lot about dreams, so she might understand it.

"If, for instance, Mizuki were to dream that I...forced myself onto her, and frightened her... Would that dream be an expression of a real fear she has? She doesn't behave as though she fears me, though I'm aware.. I know I can probably be...daunting." He spoke tensely, uncomfortable discussing the subject, but wanting to know.

"Soran... I haven't been around as long as you, but from what I hear, and what I've seen, she's had a lot of problems with guys she was rather intimate with. Granted, Gabriel was a bit different of a scenario... but you know what I mean. So she has a slight embedded fear of men, it's probably justified well enough. But i think it's because you are so 'daunting' that she can be so comfortable with you. Obsession is the scarriest thing possible with guys." Siren rolled her eyes in disdain.

"I wouldn't worry about it too much though. You're so cute together!" She smirked, "Besides, it's so cute to see you all concerned about it."

Siren paused... "She likes you, that much is clear enough. But you have to keep in mind that she's liked other guys before and been hurt by them. What about you, haven't you had any bad experiences. You're the most attractive non-winged male I've ever seen, you must have had some sort of female contact." She hesitated, "Although maybe not a relationship..."

Soran narrowed his eyes thoughtfully, wondering what she meant by Mizuki "liking" him. "I've had no relations of that sort that I can remember," he said indifferently, "Most women I've met have been flirtacious and dull." He thought a moment and amended, "Actually, I probably didn't pay enough attention to notice them. That sort of relationship is just a liability." Of course, he know, in the past, he considered all relationships liabilities.

Siren withheld the comment she felt rising in her throat.

"That you can remember? Are you saying 'No I haven't had any relations' or 'they were so long ago and so insignificant that they don't register'?"
