Laya smiled slightly. At first, when Maria mentioned the creek she actually thought she would have to bathe in it. She had learned her lesson about bathing in places like that. Kron had taught her that lesson very well... So when the kind lady said she would draw up a nice warm bath for her she felt a wave of relief wash over her.
"Thank you, I would be very welcome," Laya said in her now usual even voice.

Neko smiled nodding in approval and Kratos nodded as well but he seemed distracted. If this creature was so pure then why would these people believe that it was responsible for all the famine among the village? Why would these people suddenly assume it was the Unicorn rather than find another explanation?
"Something doesn't make sense." Kratos murmmered to himself but Neko heard him and looked at him confused. Kratos looked at them both then sigh and went on. "If you believe that the creature is so pure, then why would he suddenly cause a famine over your village? No... there's something else here.."

Thomas took a pail from a hook on the wall and scooped some feed into it, entering the sick animals' stall and placing it where they could eat if they found the energy. "There's no way he started that famine," the boy agreed, but looked worried. He glanced up at Kratos with his boyish frown as if weighing whether or not he could rely on him. "But I know he has a way to stop it... I don't want them to hurt him, but why doesn't he come help us? The animals are sick...if we can't grow food here, the whole town might die," the boy said urgently, feeling protective and betrayed at once. He was addressing Kratos moreso than Neko, looking for some kind of good news and hoping that maybe he could figure out the situation and change his father's mind.

Laya sat in a tub full of nice hot water in a room with the door closed. She slid down into it until her ears were covered and the water was touching to tip of her nose. She closed her eyes, enjoying the warmth of the water and for the moment, clearing her mind of all thoughts and memories so she could have at least a few minutes of peace.
After soaking in the tub she bathed herself, scrubbing a little too hard until she was red. She mostly did this after habit... so used to doing it after Kron had touched her to get the feeling of him off her. But, just the memory made her skin tingle as if he were there and touching her again.
She dressed in the dress that Maria had given her and she was right, the garment was bigger than she was and a bit shorter, but the length was no problem. She tied a ribbon around her waist to make it a bit more snug.
With a sigh Laya walked outside into the cool night air.... taking a deep breath and trying to get used o the feel of freedom. She felt a bit uneasy... something wasn't sitting well with her. Things were starting to feel to easy... like it was being given to her for some devious reason. It was probably her paranoia talking.... Kron was dead after all.

Kratos and Neko both stood in thought for awhile. Neko remembered the father saying that some kids tried to actually catch the unicorn before.
"Maybe it's because of the kids who tired to catch him before." Neko said absently. "After something like that, even I would probably stay away..." Kratos nodded.
"Makes sense... but not the famine." he added. "Does anyone who you know of might have any enemies?"

Laya jumped and turned quickly towards the voice. She had been staring off at the stars for a moment enjoying the peace. Her eyes were alert and behind them held a forced hidden fear. She swallowed and decided the first step of recovery was to try not to be so afriad.
"Your just off the shores of Ighten..." Laya said to her, narrowing her eyes and trying to see through the darkness to the person... She had always had somewhat bad night vision. But, could tell it wasn't a person. It was creature that Laya had never seen in her life. Could this be the creature that was the cause of all the trouble?

Laya swallowed. She actually knew what she meant. Though... it hadn't been the place that was so horrible. It had been a person who had made everything look so horrible. Why couldn't she get her mind off him!!
"I don't live here.... I'm just passing through..." And I have no idea where I'm going... or where I belong...

"Does anyone who you know of might have any enemies?" Kratos was asking Thomas.
Thomas thought for a moment, then his face lit up. "There's someone! This one kid in my class is always trying to stick his writing stick in my ear! He might be doing it," he said, becoming excited.
In the distance, Maria's robust voice called to him to get himself inside and ready for bed.

Laya looked at the new person and then at the darkned forest beyond. She longed to go and find the unicorn and spend more time in its comforting presence... She looked back to the new person.
"I don't know if they have any place for you to stay here... but it wouldn't hurt in asking... Excuse me," she said with a slightly emotionless tone..
And here it came again. The depressed feeling. She walked towards the barn as a boy ran passed her to the house. She saw her companions up a head and she felt more comfortable now she was in a pair of clean clothes and was nice and clean.
"Have you heard anything?"

Neko and Kratos turned to Laya and shook their heads. "All we got was pretty much the same story," Neko said, "But the boy believes that the unicorn isn't doing it."
"Are you sure you want to meddle further into this town's problems?" Kratos asked them again. There was something deeper to this, he could feel it.

Laya looked at Kratos and then towards the surrounding forest. "I have nothing else to do with my life... I might as well do this," she said and looked towards Neko.
"A creature so pure should not have to be disturbed by the grudge of superstitious humans..."
She brushed the slightly wet strands of brown hair behind her ear and stared off into the darkness. She thought she saw someone standing there in the shadows. She froze just as her heart froze as she stared with a terrified look on her face waching the man like figure in the darkness.
Then a breeze blew and the figure moved with it and parted telling her that she had nothing to fear from a bush. The look of fear on her face left and she took on the same plain gaze that wasn't remotely happy in anway, but just there.

"It might be better to ask around..." Neko suggested. She didn't noticed Laya's facial reaction nor did Kratos who was lost in thought. A small rumble of thunder sounded and Neko jumped.
"It's a storm..." Kratos said calmly. "Let's get inside before it pours on us."

Laya looked at them. "If its alright... I'd rather like to sit on the porch and enjoy the night air for a little while before I go to sleep... if they even have a place for us," she said. She looked up to the sky to find the clouds passing over the moon.
"I was cooped up in that ship for too long. I'd like to feel the nice comfort of silence for a little while... Your welcomed to join me... if you'd like..." She turned adn walked back towards the house.

Neko nodded, saying alright and they followed her back to the house. Kratos stayed outside, standing off to the side on the porch and Neko went inside. She hated storms. Kratos pondered what the boy told them.
'He doesn't believe the unicorn is wicked,' he thought, 'Neither do Neko or Laya... then what is causing all of this? Did someone have an enemy, pissed him off, and right after the unicorn left that persons enemy began using Dark Magic against this town?' He was so absorbed in his thoughts that the rain that blew in his face did nothing to disturb him.
