Vlad blinked, swallowing his pride like rocks at Tenele's words. She had never spoken so harshly to him before. This wasn't the same maiden girl he'd first met, and it only now occurred to him. She was upset, but she really didn't need him. She had her own pride. He had forgotten that. And he'd offended it.
Her expression bit into his gut as she turned away. Yesterday, he would have been able to creep up against her, and soothe her with a kiss. Today, the concept seemed as foreign as touching a complete stranger.
He couldn't do much, except accept her words. "Okay," he said, smearing his dripping hair out of his face. "Okay." He pushed up to his feet sucessfully this time. "Just, come with me," he asked her quietly.

Tenele turned around and looked at him with puffy red eyes. "Why Vladimir?" she asked him her voice cracking. She opened her mouth to say something by closed her eyes tightly and lowered her head. She tried twice more, but couldn't. "Afraid Queen Sinead will be angry if you come back with out your 'master'. Is that why you resent me... or think of me as an insect? Because of what them women did to you? I offered to take your place! I would have!" Her heart hurt worst and she felt dizzy.
Her vision blurred and she shook her head.

Tenele smirked slightly. "Now you care," she said her green eyes opened fully for a moment, staring directly at him. She couldn't help but feel... happy about him thinking she was attractive.
"I'll come with you," she spoke softly. "But, only because its the wisest decision..." She stepped forward and almost fell, but not because of the slippery ground. Her body was acting strange.
She couldn't remember the last time she ate... But, at the mometn she wasn't thinking about that. She was thinking about how to approach any thing with Vlad...
She cared about him, even if she told him she didn't. She did care about him.

"It's not a matter of caring, it's a matter of sense," Vlad said stiffly, but he was relieved. She seemed less afraid of him now. It was strangely unsettling to think that he scared her, which was odd, considering how often he spooked people on purpose. "Let's go, then." He turned and began walking, wiping the mud disdainfully off his hand onto his pant leg.

Tenele took several steps forward as her stomach growled loudly. The rain fell in slow motiont to her as she saw Vlad walk a head of her. She grabbed at the air as she stumbled towards him. The world tipping slightly as she reached for Vlad to warn him. "Vlad," she said, trying to steady herself. Her eyes raised as she looked to see if he would turn around and look at her.
Slow motion. She fell to the side, her stringing silver hair flowing with her as she fell to the muddy ground.

Vlad heard her speak his name, and was almost afraid to turn around. So much was going through his head, and none of it was things he wanted to let her see. But then the soft sound of her body collapsing drew him suddenly around, eyes narrowing. He jumped toward her, looping an arm under her back and stopping her descent. Her hair floated wetly an inch above the ground.
Vlad stared at her, shocked. She had fainted? Why? She had seemed fine...
No. She hadn't. Her color looked bad. Her body felt weak in his arms. He tried to call up a memory of the last time she had eaten in his presence, and couldn't. He had been so wrapped up in his own thoughts and concerns that he hadn't even noticed. He pulled her upright again, her body propped securely between his torso and left arm. His right hand rose slowly and touched the dark bruise that was forming on her face from the fight she'd had before.
Emotion suddenly filled him without warning. He had no idea where it came from, but it felt like his stomach had suddenly filled with clay. That was the first time it occurred to him, in years, to be disgusted with himself.
He pulled her against him and balanced her head against his shoulder, supporting her there in stunned silence. He wanted her to wake up, but he didn't speak. He suddenly didn't know if it would be for her sake or his own if he dragged her back to consciousness. Normally it wouldn't make a difference either way. He stared past her shoulder grimly, deep in thought.

Tenele's expression was soft and peaceful. She was soaked to the bone, her black cloak moved out of the way to reveal her white shirt that was soaked through so much it had turned skin color from being pressed to her bare chest underneath. She was beautiful, if you could look bast the bruise on her eye, the bursted lip, the bruise on the side of her face, and the raw circles around her wrists.
She was weak, nothing but limp in his arms. Her usually tan skin was pale, her lips pale.... She was sick, but not from the weather. She was sick from starvation.

"Tenele?" Vlad said quietly, holding her limp body against his. She made no response. She really was in bad shape. He'd known she was. He just hadn't wanted to acknowledge it. Knots of disgust grew tighter in him as reality checked in. He had to get her somewhere out of this weather. Somewhere where there was food. The no-life king bent forward and scooped her light body into his arms, cradling it against his chest. Her body heat drained into his through her barely decent state of dress, but appreciation for her sexuality was least of the things on his mind at the moment. He carried her back to where the trail was, and picked up into a run. There was no going back to that sex town; they would be recognized by too many people now. He had to find someplace else to bring her.
He ran about an hour down the muddy trail, carrying Tenele as smoothly as possible despite the several slips of his boots in the damp terrain. Finally a lantern showed up in his peripheral vision, and he turned off the trail towards it. Following the light through the foggy rain, he soon found himself at a large mansion, apparently in the middle of nowhere. Vlad could care less who lived there; the place was clearly inhabited, and he would persuade them to extend their hospitality. Climbing the steps to the large cobblestoned building, he shifted Tenele's weight to one arm and knocked firmly on the giant wood door.

A few moments passed and then the door opened slightly. In the door way stood a short man with slicked back black hair. He looked up at Vlad and then at the woman in his arms.
"Master, I think you should handle this one." The butler moved out of the way and in his place was a tall man who looked young, except he had long white hair and a rather aged aura around him.
"Bring her in to get her out of that weather," the man said, revealing his fanges as he spoke.

Vlad felt an instinct to say something sarcastic to the man in front of him for addressing him in the form of a command. Instead he just stepped inside, sizing up the two inhabitants thoroughly. He could smell the taller man's race before he'd even stepped out of the shadows; he was a normal vampire, and that meant firstly that Vlad did not respect him, and secondly that Vlad did not trust him with the young lady he was holding. There was one other thing it might mean, and if it was true, then he might as well leave now.
"We are in need of real food," he said testingly as a small puddle of rainwater began accumulating beneath them on the polished stone floor. The inside of the mansion was cobblestone, just like the outside, with large gray stones forming archways into hallways and other rooms beyond his view.

"He shouldn't dirty up the furniture," the butler said, bringing a blanket around.
"I have clothes up stares in a spare room. Rosoff will bring them down and you are more than welcome to change yours and her clothes so you will be dry enough to sit on the furniture." The older vampire looked at the girl in his arms.
"Once you've changed there will be food waiting for you," he said and then looked at Rosoff. "Retrieve the clothes." Wasn't it a little odd the man was welcoming them into his home so easily.

The older vampire smiled as he started to turn around away from them and disappear into a dark hall way. "Eradore." The vampire said as he disappeared.
"Rosoff hurried up the steps and then returned with a full black tunic for Vlad, and a crimson elegant dress for Tenele.
"Need any help changing the ladies clothes?" Rosoff asked, clearly not interested in seeing Tenele naked. At least, if he was he was hiding it very well.

Vlad eyed the man strangely. Too much had happened today and he was too concerned about Tenele for him to muster a sufficient retort to the man's offer. He just took the clothes, gave Rosoff a funny look, and turned away down a hallway that looked promising. He wasn't even going to question why they had a dress and tunic on hand, or why they were so hospitable. He could really care less, and certainly didn't perceive them as a threat under the current circumstances. He nudged open an ornate wooden door with his shoe and found what he was looking for; a bedroom. Carrying Tenele in, he set her on the bed, telepathically closing the door behind him in Odoff's face.
The no life king took a deep breath and set himself to unfastening Tenele's shirt and pants, carefully working them off her body. He gave little thought to her nudity, though he certainly recognized the beauty of her naked body in front of him. It was just that his body refused to respond to it. Vlad looked over at the gown they had given him. It hardly seemed like something Tenele would want to wear in her current state. He decided instead to sit her up and pull the tunic on over her head. The soft, substancial fabric fit loose and large on her small frame, hanging like a nightshirt on her, when on him it would hang just past hips. Vlad turned down the sheets, lifted her again, and set her in between them, pulling the warm bedding around her pale form.
The cuts and bruises stood out far worse than before, now that she'd become so pale. Vlad almost touched her face again, but pulled himself away, walking back to the other side of the bed and peeling off his drenched pants.
