Tenele stopped in the middle of her muddy tracks and turned slightly to the side, her head turning back behind her to try and make out the person the voice was coming from. Only one person knew her name in this town and that was Vlad. Why would he call her by Tenele unless she was going to die, or he was going to die....
She thought about running to the voice, but for some reason her feet stayed frozen in the mud, the rain poring down making her hair stringy around her face. Her white blouse soaked clean through. Thankfully the black cloak covered her.
Vlad said her name? Something important? Or just to torment her more?
"What?" she said, trying not to sound as she wanted it to be at first.

Vlad ran the rest of the way before jogging to a stop in front of her. He stopped two yards away, oddly uncertain whether he should approach her further. "Where do you think you're going?" he demanded breathlessly. He did a good job keeping it out of his voice, but he was shocked. She really had been leaving without him. He wondered if she would say so.

"I was leaving," Tenele said and turned around as she headed for the unguarded gate. "I figured you would rather travel in higher company... or with no one at all." Her voice cracked slightly as she walked so slow, she barely moved at all. "What do you care? I'm in my place." Her heart broke agan, the memories of his words seized her heart and crushed it.

Vlad tilted his head subconsciously at her words. He moved to follow her and then stopped. What was she talking about? He ran through the details of their conversation the night before. "Sinead sent us on this mission together," he said sharply, disliking the sound of it the moment it left his lips. He'd meant that they should return together, but that definitely wasn't how it had sounded.

"I'm leaving Vlad, you don't have to come with me. Sinead did send us on this mission together... Much to your dislike, I assume. The mission is over. You're not abligated to stay with me anymore. I'm sure that will make you happy!" She teared up and started crying, but it was hard to tell through the rain. She slipped fell in the mud, putting her head in her hands before she stood up.

"You didn't have to!" she yelled at him, jerking away from him and sitting down in the mud. She was already soaking wet, what did it matter about a little mud. She looked up at him with her sparkling sad green eyes. "You didn't have to, when its clear in you're voice Vlad." Her face controrted, in a beautiful sorrowful expression as she lowered her head. Her shoulders jerking with the effects of the sobs.
She couldn't stand to have him look at her while she just broke down. She knew he thought she was weak, an insect, unworthy of his attention or care. She pushed herself up, slipping slightly and took off at a quick pace towards the gate to get away.

Vlad twitched backwards as he realized she was really crying. His instinct was to follow her, but that look she gave him did something to him. It knotted his stomach and chest and glued him where he stood, his legs refusing to move. For once, the cocky vampire was speechless. He watched as she left the gate and disappeared into the mist of rainfall. When she was gone, and really gone, his daze finally lifted, but by then he was no longer sure what to do.
That didn't make any sense; he knew what he wanted to do. And he always did what he wanted to do. But at the same time, that look...had definitely been because of him. If he followed her...would she be in pain? He shook his head, rain spattering off his hair.
He made his legs start walking until he came to a fork in the path. Not really caring where he was going at the moment, he took the right one. He wanted to be away from that city, and find something to amuse him as soon as possible to blot out his uninvited anxiety.
He wanted to look for her. No, it was just habit. No, he really, really wanted to look for her. What was wrong with him? He should be enraged by her disrespectful little dramatic stunt. She was making things difficult for him. This was her fault. Not that he cared. Why should he care? Vlad felt increasingly worse as he walked on.

Tenele ran, splashing through mud puddles until her pants were caked in a thin layer of muddy water. She ran further until she couldn't run anymore and she fell down beside a tree on the side of the road, shivering from the cold rain. They were close to the mountains so the rain was freezing. She brought her knees up to her chest and pressed her forehead to the top of her knees.
How could he be so ignorant towards my feelings? She hated men. She just realized it. Vlad did her in. Her brother was an ass hole. Her father had been an ass hole. Sekushi was an ass hole. VLAD was an ass hole. It was becoming increasingly apparent that ALL men were ass holes.
Why did she have to have such strong feelings for Vlad? Why did he need to be so mean to her for caring for him. Well, now he got what he wanted. She hated him.
Deep down inside she knew it wasn't true.
She should tell him that though. See how he likes it when he knows she hates him. Yes... maybe she should do that?

Vlad hooked his thumbs into the pockets of his slacks that weren't even his, his shirtless torso indifferent to the cold rain. The temperature didn't bother him, but it got annoying after a while, being pelted with tiny drops that smeared his vision.
He'd been walking several hours along the path. It was unusual for him to keep to a path; he normally preferred to deviate from what was expected by taking his own route. How was Tenele holding up in this weather? Would she have stopped to rest by now? Probably. Chances were, she had gone in a completely different direction than he had. And if something went wrong? If he returned to Sinead, and she wasn't there? He would probably never see her again.
He told himself that didn't significantly matter, but the truth was he hadn't stopped thinking about her for an instant since he left the settlement, nor had he forgotten those soft eyes that had stared at him so brokenly.
"What does she expect me to do?" he muttered to himself. Of course I don't love her. I'm above that now. Those things were beaten out of me when I was transformed beyond my former race and made into what i am now. That kind of weakness...I will never experience again. Although he'd wondered for a while, now. At moments like this, he still felt far too human. How many hundreds of years did he have to live before these emotions would go away?
He froze in his path as a faint sound came from just off the road. Ready to apprehend some petty bandit, he moved swiftly between the trees, claws extending. Perfect; he wanted nothing more than to slash something up. Nothing more that was readily available to him, anyway.
Sensing a human just on the other side of a nearby tree, he swept in front of the person, hand flying back for a strike. Instead, his eyes widened in recognition as he found himself face to face with Tenele. He threw his hand off course in shock, ramming his long claws into the tree just above her head and lodging them in the bark. "A-...." he stuttered, tugging at his hand to try to free it as embarrassment shuddered through him.

Tenele screamed fearfully as the claws were directed at her head and all she could do was watch in terror as the slammed into the tree right beside her head. She was frozen numb as she glanced at the hand next to her head, the claws wroked into the bark.... She followed the hand around to the red orbs staring at her and she felt herself shrink back. Moving furth against the tree as she stared at his eyes.
Her expression was hurt, confused... afraid. She finally exhailed. Her body trembled, though it was unclear if it was from the cold or from fear.
He was becoming Sekushi. He wanted her for sex... now he was using violence.
She felt sick to her stomach at the thought of him doing that. She cared for him.... and trusted him... Well... maybe not trusted him anymore.
"I take it back!" she screamed in the hopes that it might spare her life... and stop the hurt in her heart. "I don't love you..." she said hollowly, a tear sliding down her cheek again.

Vlad's eyes widened further, and he stopped tugging at his stuck hand for a minute. She didn't...
"I...That's..." Somehow the vampire couldn't bring himself to say 'good'. He stared at her, startled and unable to break away from her eyes. He didn't want her to love him....did he? He could hardly believe the regret flowing through him.
No, this was absolutely not happening. "Good," he said very softly and emptily, like he was in a trance and not speaking of his own will.

She looked at him, her eyes tearing up again. Good, she said in her head. A subconcious hand went to her chest and held it there as if she felt a phantom pain. No.... it was a pain. She swallowed and glanced at his hand and then at him. She didn't know whether to ask to be set free from this rather strange pinned poition. Since she had a way out... But, didn't know if it was a good idea to use it.
A gust of wind blew cold rain under the protection of the tree and tossed her wet stringing hair, a shiver running through her as she just stared at his eyes.
"I..." She turned her head away and swallowed. "Sinead would be angry if you killed me."

Vlad glanced at his hand again, like he'd forgotten it was attached to his arm. He suddenly tugged on it, clenching his wrist with his other hand as he pulled. On the second tug it gave way so abruptly that he staggered back and actually fell onto his rear. He flexed his aching nails as they retracted back to normal. "I'm not going to kill you," he said stiffly, pushing himself up, slipping in the mud and landing again. Damn it, rain was annoying. "I thought you were a-" he realized he'd been about to say 'human', and stopped.

"Human?" she asked, as if reading his mind. Who else would he thought she was? She finally turned her head back to him. Usually she would find him falling humorous. At the moment she just found it ... well, she really didn't pay attention.
"Encase you've fogotten, or it got passed your cocky, thick skull, I'm not all human. I'm an elf, partly... You're not above me. I'm not bound by invisible chains! I don't need to remember my place! I don't need you telling me what I am! I don't need you!" She clutched at her chest again, as if the pain increased. Her face made that sorrowful expression and she turned away, facing the tree so he couldn't see.
