(Lore) Recovering

The shores of Ighten are beautiful beaches with white sand, palm trees, shacks and houses with people that live along it. It's also an easy way for Arken people to enter Ighten, since it is more or less unguarded. Sometimes wrecked ships wash ashore.

When he left Laya walked over to his kitchen and pulled a knife free, slipping it into the deep pocket of her dress. When he fell a sleep she planned to cut them free. It shouldn't be to hard, most guards fall a sleep at night. Kron fell a sleep... if he could then anyone can.

She looked around the room to see if there was anything else she could still that might be of use later....

Tetsumaru just glared at the man offering food. "I already ato," he replied. The ex samurai never dropped his guard, instead darting his eyes back and forth, making sure nobody made any move to attack any of them. "Hau aru ze tsu women?"

"Safe," Adanis assured.

Kratos refused the food. He didn't want to take this village's food, but he spared a threaening glare at Adanis. "What are you're intentions with my sister and Laya?" he demanded. If fire could spit out of his mouth... it probably would.

Neko, feeling at loss for words as Laya and the man went back and forth, went inside as he had commanded and sat on the floor against a wall. More than ever she wanted her brother to comfort her.

"Have we become prisoners?" she asked solemnly, not expecting to be answered.

Laya glanced at her. "Yes," she said and sighed. "Once again..."

She had just gained her freedom from Kron and now she was once again imprisoned. She guessed it wasn't meant for her to be free. She was doomed to be oppressed.

Laya turned and pulled back the curtain, looking at the window at Telanis. He was a unicorn. He didn't diserved to be tied down. He diserved to be free.

The long-haired man turned from the prisoners as Fandir walked back out to the group, bringing a cloud of sorrow with him.

"How is he?" Adanis asked sympathetically.

"He has all the symptoms. It won't be long now," Fandir said, struggling to control his voice. He looked at the prisoners emptily. "If only you hadn't stopped us...It's not right for Thomas to pay the price for this!" he told them brokenly.

Telanis looked at Fandir in realization. Thomas...he knew that child. It was someone he'd gone to once, years ago. He recalled the radiant, trusting smile the child had given him, even when he had been so close to death.

"Sir...Your son is sick?" the unicorn spoke carefully.

Fandir frowned at him. "The plague. Just like everyone else. First our cattle got it, and now him. It's not right!"

"Please, is there some way I could visit him?" Telanis asked urgently.

Fandir gave him a confused stare. "Why?" Adanis said nothing.

"I won't harm him. I just want to see him," Telanis said, meeting Fandir's eyes earnestly.

"How dare you ask me that, when it's your fault he's suffering!" he shot back angrily.

"Dad? What's going on?" a young boy's voice came from behind him. Fandir turned to see Thomas, who was walking tiredly across to where the prisoners and his father were standing. "Who are all these people?" He peered at Kratos, who was closest to him. "It's you! Why are you tied up?" he asked in astonishment.

"Thomas, you should be resting!" Fandir protested.

Thomas ignored his father and half-sat, half-fell in front of Kratos. "You saved him, didn't you?" he whispered excitedly as if Kratos were his hero, looking up secretively, albeit somewhat dizzily, into the man's eyes.

Kratos watched the boy in amazment. "Please... go rest kid." he pleaded weakly. How could he boy so sick risk getting worse by coming out here? Kratos looked into the boy's eyes, shining at him like he was a hero. "..I'm no hero boy.." he murmmered but he kept full eye contact.

"I don't need rest," Thomas boasted. "I'm not scared." A deep fear has snuck into his voice, but he looked up at Kratos as bravely as he could muster. "Where are your two friends?"

Fandir looked on worriedly, but wasn't sure what to do about his sick son fraternizing with the prisoners.

Adanis left the group indifferently and went back to the cabin where Laya and Neko were. He opened the door and walked in without looking at them, sitting down at the table and resting back with his elbows behind his neck.

"They went inside." Kratos said, feigning indifference. His eyes really relfected full concern for the two girls being alone inside a house with some man and for Thomas. "PLease, Thomas, go get rest. My condition is less important than yours. I would feel terrible if you got worse because of me."

Thomas's face clouded and he looked downward stubbornly. "Everyone's telling me that. It's not like it's going to make any difference. I don't want you to tell me that too," he murmured.

Telanis's heart tugged as he listened with his back to the boy, his dark eyes glistening. If he could only get close enough, he could heal him... if he were to jump up now...

"I admire your bravery." Kratos told him like a proud father. "You seem to be very brave... but." he trailed off finding nothing more to say. "What are you doing out here anyway?" he asked him getting off the original subject.

Neko glanced at the man in the house. She had an impluse to go up to him but decided against it. WHat would she say anyway? 'Uh, hi I think you're cute?' No. That was stupid and tactless.

"I just wanted to know what was going on," Thomas said, then looked dazed for a moment. He felt something - a warm, familiar security that he had felt once. It had been a long time ago, but he recognized this safety.

The boy looked around seriously, searching for something. His eyes fell on the man sitting behind Kratos facing away, whose long hair was the hue of silver caught in the sun. Telanis turned his head very slightly, one brown eye taking in the boy cautiously. The unicorn caught the burst of realization that was coming from the child.

Thomas stared at the still, elegant form wide-eyed, then looked back at Kratos, and again at Telanis. He grasped one hand onto Kratos's pant leg, as though struggling for something - words, breath, perhaps understanding - it was hard to tell. Then the boy suddenly let go and climbed back to his feet, looking upset, and stumbled back to where his father caught him by the shoulders worriedly.

"This...is all your fault!" he screamed at Kratos and the others, spinning away from his father and running away toward the barn.

"Thomas, wait," Fandir said, starting after him.

"LEAVE ME ALONE!" Thomas shouted back at him and continued running off toward the barn.

Fandir halted and watched his son run off. The barn was where Thomas always ran to when he was upset to be alone. If that was what he wanted, he would allow it.

Tetsumaru just stood around outside, not having followed the others when they had gone to check on Thomas. Instead, he just continued to try and keep his focus on things. Soon however, his eyelids grew heavy and the senile man fell asleep... still standing.

Laya laid her head against the back of the couch and closed her eyes. She was stressed... stress made her tired.

"Have you ever been captured before Neko?"

Neko tried to think. "No...really... I was on a pirate ship before, we were doing some secret misson, then we were attacked and I was thrown from the ship. I was adrift for some time..." she trailed off not exactly remembering it all, and not really wanting to.

Kratos watched in disbelif as Thomas ran off. "What? THOMAS!?"
