"I..." she muttered, looking at him oddly for a moment. Why should she take it back if she really meant it. "I do..." It wasn't like it could hurt anything if she said. Didn't he care about her?

"I'm not joking," she smiled, thinking he would understand.

Vlad frowned. He had a horrible feeling in his stomach. He didn't expect this. Not from her. Of course he'd heard it before, but he didn't want to hear it from her. This could ruin everything. "My dear, might you just be imagining it? You're very excited at the moment," he attempted unhappily.

"I can't imagine a feeling," Tenele said and tilted her head. She didn't understand. What was wrong with caring about someone strongly?

Vlad shook his head slightly, looking down at her with perceptive red eyes. "I feel nothing of the sort," he said plainly. "Dear girl...you're just a human."

"Just a human?" she asked softly, her eyes looking up at him and her face had the strangest expression. "What does that mean?"

Vlad stared at her, his chest wringing inexplicably. He was irritated, and he thought it was because of her. She'd put him in this situation. But really he couldn't acknowledge that he was the one blowing it.

"I mean that though you are quite pretty, and certainly entertaining, my interest in you is nothing like love. We are entirely different creatures." He didn't say it, but it was clear enough from the look on his face. They were unequal. She was unworthy.

Tenele looked at him. He found her unworthy.... He didn't even find her at his level. She was nothing by an insect to him.

"You didn't seem to find me so unworthy a few seconds ago when you were stripping off my clothes..." Clothes. She suddenly realized she was half naked. She pulled the pillow from behind her head and held it in front of her body.

"That is a different matter," Vlad said, not caring about his own exposed state. "You should know that I am not frugal with my body. I use it as I feel moved to." In fact, he normally used it much, much sooner than he had been about to. He had waited a great deal with Tenele, for some reason, despite the fact that he'd sensed her willingness some time ago.

"So I guess that means you were just going to use my body too?" she asked with a great deal of anger in her voice. Men, they were all alike. Vlad, though he had saved her from Sekushi seemed to be just like him. Except Vlad didn't need to tie her to the bed. He was just going to manipulate her.

Vlad's eyes flared with anger as well. "Do not compare me to that pathetic human. It was you who undertook to make love to me. And I certainly wouldn't have, had I known you would spout such absurdities. Try to recall your place," he spoke condemningly.

She was putting him in a corner. Why was she doing this to him? It made him feel betrayed and angry. He trusted her to act a certain way, and now she was confusing him.

Tenele narrowed her eyes on him. A shocked look on her face. Though, the shocked look was more hurt. He invaded her mind? RECALL HER PLACE?

She moved out from under him and got off the bed, pulling her shirt on, buttoning her pants and turning towards him. She walked over to him, tilted her head down and put her face in front of his. She smirked.

"Maybe later on after I leave you'll recall this," she said with a sweet and dark tone in her voice. Suddenly she slapped her hand across his face and turned to strom out of the room. She wanted to get away, too keep from letting him see the fact his words had cut deep.

Vlad blinked in shock at the sting on his face and had to catch himself before he reflexively threw her into the wall. He watched her leave, indignant fury smoldering beneath inexplicable remorse. He'd wanted her to leave, and now he was alarmed by it. Where would she go? What did she expect to do? He was so frustrated he wanted to punch something.

Tenele slammed the door behind her and put a hand to her forhead, trying to swallow. A knott had slowly worked its way up into her throat, however.

She looked back at the door and walked quickly down the hall, leaving her sword, and everything else in the room with Vlad. She didn't want to see his face. Not any times soon... and maybe not later.

How dare he talk to her as if she were an insect. Recall her place? Like he was above her. She dared to have feelings for him? No, she wouldn't.

But, she couldn't help it. She did... and it felt like her heart was breaking. "Stupid ass hole," she muttered as she stormed down the steps and out onto the street.

Vlad clenched his eyes shut. All the anger and adrenaline in his body seemed to be seeping out of him and leaving him with a dull, empty feeling. Normally, when a woman couldn't help developing feelings for him, he took the logical next step and broke things off. It made things too awkward. He appreciated women who could keep things in context. But Tenele didn't.... He stood up and began pacing tenselybetween the window and the doorway.

Tenele turned and went down an alley where she stood with her back against the cold dirty wall. She put her head in her hands and sniffled slightly as she sank down to a sitting position.

How could he be so mean...

She sniffled and brought her knees up to her chest, crossing her arms at the top of them and resting her head there.

He could have told her nicely.

"Heh," she heard a grunt. "Ladies with bodies like yours shouldn't be down dark alleys."

He was a man with a mug of ale in his hand. He staggard down the alley and flopped down across from her. "Something bothering you, lass?"

Tenele stood up. She wanted peace and quiet.
