Laya didn't get up. She stayed curled on the couch because she knew they were to be kept in the house with that man. She rested her head on her knees, idely touching the brand on her arm, wrapping her hand around it as if the man and Neko could see through her clothing.

"I see. Are you hungry?" he asked. Neko blushed, oblivious to that fact that he might be trying to keep them inside.

"Umm... I guess so. Laya?" she called into the house. "Are you hungry?"

Laya looked glanced up, but did not lift her head. "I'm... I'm not that hungery," she lied. She was worried about what was going to happen to these people... She was worried about the men... She was worried about the future. If there was one.

"No?" Neko repeated dumbly. She pondered it for awhile. She wasn't exactly hungry either.

"Hmm.. no, we're fine." she said and grinned. She resisted the urge to start flirting with him.

Laya looked at Neko. "Its just that I lost my appitite with this whole 'destroy good creatures because you don't understand them', business..." she muttered, leaning her head against the back of the couch.

"Like I said, it might be different if he'd at least show up to clear his name," he said unhappily. "What can we be expected to believe, given the pattern between him and the tragedy here, when after helping us for years, he doesn't even show his face?"

Laya looked up and narrowed her eyes. "Maybe because every time he shows his face he gets shot at?" she said to him darkly. "I don't care if I was innocent, I wouldn't come to clear my name when no one would listen."

Neko lost her grin and lowered her face. She suddenly felt ashamed. "Exactly," she started, feeling confident again. "He's probably too afraid to come back!"

"Nonetheless, I think if he could somehow explain himself, they would listen. The people here are not as singleminded as you think. They are desperate, so they take the most extreme course," he said. "Maybe I should see if your friends need food." He rose to his feet.

"Maybe if you asked the villagers to let the unicorn explain before trying to kill him he would? " she said to the man as he went to see if they needed food. She hugged her legs tighter.

"You may be right, but what way is there to communicate that to him at this point?" he said over his shoulder.

"Maybe I could find him?" she said and looked up to the man. "I mean... he has come to me before... maybe he will do it again?"

She thought about the time at the creek... when she had felt so horrible. And Telanis had come and touched her, when she didn't think... and still didn't think, she was worthy enough to be touched. She closed her eyes for a moment as those feelings washed up for a second.

Laya looked at him and then down. "No... I'm saying you let me and someone I choose go and get him to bring him back to try and explain all of this," she said.

"If I don't come back with the unicorn you have my premission to kill me," she told him, not a hint of fear of death in her eyes.

"It's difficult to kill you if you don't come back," the man said curiously. "I'm sorry... that doesn't sound feasible. Both of you stay inside. I'll be back," he said, closing the door behind him.

He went outside to where strip steaks were cooking on skewers over the fire to celebrate the hunters' return. He went to the fire and picked out a skewer that was still fairly rare, then carried it over to where the men were resting. "The village is running low on livestock, but it can afford to share one among the three of you, if you're hungry, he told them with a frown.

He knelt down in front of Telanis and held the meat close in front of Telanis's face. "First bite?" he offered, watching intently as Telanis blanched at the blood in front of him and pulled his neck back instinctively, staring at Adanis with shocked intensity.

"Not interested?" he ascertained calmly, standing up again. "Are you two hungry?" he asked, directing his attention to Kratos and Tetsumaru.
