It was an unfortunate twist that Vlad's gaze was trapped on the way Lothos was licking Tenele rather than the weapon that shot toward him. He took note of it too late to get out of the way completely in his weakened state, but there was another option.

Vlad stopped the weapon dead in its tracks, his telekinetic ability freezing it inches from his chest. Shaking with effort, he turned the sword around and took hold of the hilt with his 'good' hand, which was mostly blackened flesh thanks to Lothos's axe. He summoned the energy to come up alongside Lothos. His free hand gripped the man's chin in his hand, like a master inspecting a new slave, and turned Lothos's head to face him. "Mine," Vlad said in a voice so dark that it didn't seem real, like a voice from hell. He thrust the sword into Lothos's stomach, not because he thought it would kill him, but because he knew that was what would hurt the most. He twisted the blade, drawing it down through blood and thicker things. Without removing it, he used his other hand to slash open the front of Lothos's pants. He wanted to rip what lay under that fabric into unrecognizable shreds while Lothos watched.

But suddenly nothing looked right. Lothos swam in his vision, and he knew more than actually felt his hand slipping off the katana, legs folding under him. He landed on his knees, and all he could think about was how furious he was, how monstrously unfair it was that he couldn't just reach out and destroy what lay bare before him.

OOC: I added stuff to wrap it up for Lothos. :P

Lothos's grip tightened around Tenele's neck when he felt the pain of the blade to the point where Tenele black out momentarily. She felt ass if her eyes would bludge from her head. Then, his grip slackened and her vision returned to see Vlad falling to the ground.

'No!' she thought, her hand numbly reaching out to him as he fell away from her.

Lothos was panting in pain, trying to recover, but these wounds were not healing. He reached and pulled the katana out and it clattered to the floor. Blood spluttered from his lips and his hand finally let go of Tenele's neck. She slid to the floor coughing uncontrollably, gasping for air that couldn't seem to fill her lungs quick enough.

Lothos was standing there holding his torn flesh and trying to keep all of his organs in. Too busy to pay attention to Tenele, who was about tired of his game. She grabbed the sword and repeatedly punctured his flesh as quickly as possible. Trying to make as many wounds as she could. Finally she grew to tired and had to stop, unable to lift the sword again.

Lothos stumbled back, wide eyed. Still underestimating the "weaker" sex. Still underestimating her. He'd learn. From now on he would learn.

"Blood... I need... Blood."

"Stay the hell away from my sister," Talon's strong voice commanded. He was standing in the doorway. Something golden in his hand. "You have overstayed your welcome." He through the golden orb and Lothos had no energy to move at the moment. He was hit by the orb, the force throwing him through the wall into the air. He spiraled down, down, down... As if the guards head a hand in the matter Lothos's body spiraled around so he could see what he was falling towards. He had no power to stop himself, and a loud futile roar escaped his lips as he saw it coming towards him. He fell in such a way that the spiked fence at the bottom that covered the top of the high brick wall sliced into his neck, severing his head.

The head fell from the wall and rolled to feet of a few of the onlookers.

Tenele looked from Talon and then to Vlad. Now that she knew her brother was okay, she could tend to her lover. She crawled to his side as quickly as her disoriented body would let her.

"Vlad..." she said softly, pulling his head into her lap, stroking the side of his face. Tenele could barely stand to look at him in the condition he was in. She didn't want to think about the amount of pain he could be in either. "Talon... please..."

"I think only the Queen could help him, sister," he said softly. "I'll fetch her quickly."

"Thank you," she said softly, glancing back down at Vlad. Her brother left the room in a wobbly limping sort of way and when he was gone she stared down at Vlad very seriously. "You need blood, don't you?"

Vlad rolled his eyes up at Tenele, who looked like a beautiful silver and red blur above him. "Not," he swallowed, testing his voice. His throat felt swollen and uncooperative. "Not enough to take yours, so don't bother offering. Besides, this is a little different." He winced as he tried to sit up. He had to look at his shoulder to convince himself small animals weren't chewing through it. The sting was paralyzing; it felt like the wound should be worse than it looked. The pain in his hands was like a dull blur in comparison. He focused, but couldn't close the wound with his powers. He'd known that already, but couldn't help trying.

With a grunt of effort, he manage to get up to his knees and look out through the hole in the wall. He wanted to be sure the sucker was dead. The decapitated body didn't seem to reassure him. "Burn him. Sinead needs to burn the body, and leave it under the sun. Why isn't anyone burning it?" he demanded, noticing with vague confusion that he sounded a bit crazed. Paranoid, who him? His thoughts weren't flowing well. He felt cold, cold enough that he was shivering, but he was also sweating. Nothing seemed important compared with making sure that body didn't get up again. He glared at the people standing nervously watching the body from a distance. "Idiots, someone burn him!" he shouted down at them, but his voice didn't carry well. A few heads looked up at him, but they hadn't understood what he said. Shit, he thought, feeling tired.

Tenele pulled on Vlad gently, trying to lead him to the bed. "Lie down Vlad, I'll go burn the body myself in a bit. Okay? Just please rest until the queen gets here." She gently touched him to push him down on the bed, wanting him to rest.

The way he was talking scared her and she didn't know how to handle him like this. She thought reassuring him that she would do the job would help.

Vlad struggled against Tenele's grip, wincing. "You don't understand, there's no proof he's dead unless you burn him!" he clamored.

At that moment, Sinead rushed into the room from the stairwell, her long silver dress dirty from her work out in the burning city. She came in the room like a sudden rain, her presence dropping Vlad's constant stream of argument into silence. His eyes darted to hers, alert but unfocused, like he couldn't quite see her coming up to him. "Talon told me there was fighting in the tower," she said, glancing over Vlad's wounds. She knew them immediately for what they were. "You need to be stitched. All this and you didn't summon me?" she asked, almost hurt.

Vlad shook his head, like he was trying to be angry and couldn't get the energy for it. "It'll all be a waste if you don't hurry up and...and hurry," he mumbled and blinked, more and more of his weight shifting into Tenele's arms.

Sinead looked at Tenele in confusion, and noticed the blood on her face for the first time. "You've been hurt too," she said in quiet worry.

Tenele readied herself for his weight, helping him stay upright. She brushed her finger tips through his hair soothingly, leaning her head against his. "Its okay, I'll burn him. Don't worry. He'll be burned. People are watching his body, he won't put himself back together. I promise. Just rest," she said ever so softly to him. Touching him caringly on the cheek. "It will all be okay."

Tenele looked at Sinead. "There wasn't any time. The vampire was swift and we only had time to get the weapon to try and hold him off. By then Vlad was too hurt to do anything but try and hold his own. I'm fine, just have a splitting headache, a broken back, and a sore throat." Though, she knew her back wasn't broken it felt just as bad at the moment. However, Vlad was in far worst condition.

Vlad sagged against Tenele, shivering, as her words drained him of the last of his will to fight. He was so, so tired. Not hungry, he realized, at least not dangerously so. He had strength left to spare, if only his body could forget the touch of Lothos's axe. Tenele's words to trust her sobered him, like a bath of warm water that he wanted to slide into and wear like a fur. "Far apart, spread 'em... far" he told her, afraid he might pass out and forget to tell her something.

Sinead nodded to Tenele's words. I have magic to heal your wounds, but not his. He is already dead, and my magic is the stuff of life. I ordered Talon to bring a surgeon to close his wounds. He should be here in a moment. She touched the side of Tenele's face tenderly, and a soft light tingled up and down Tenele's form. "It seems that trouble keeps following you," she said seriously.

"Thank you," she said the Queen as soon as she was healed. Tenele helped Vlad lie down on the bed, bringing the blankets around to cover his shivering form until the surgeon arrived. She touched his face tenderly and it was so easy to tell how much she loved the vampire. The worry was writting on her soft features.

"Trouble has always had a habbit of finding me," Tenele said and looked back at the Queen. "However, no more so than lately. I don't know if its they way I look, the way I smell, or the clothes I wear. I just can't seem to stay well and healthy and out of a fight. Not that I mind, but... it seems with every foe we defeat a stronger one rises up to take his or her place. None stop... I'm just tired and in need of a vacation. I'll take one as soon as this war is over."

Talon entered the room with a cloak to keep the night are off of Tenele. He draped it over her shoulders as she sat next to Vlad, calmly stroking his hair and face.

"The surgeon is collecting his things and will be here soon," he told the Queen quietly.

Sinead stood to the side, but didn't leave the room. It said something about her affection for her two servants that she could linger there when an entire portion of the city was recovering from the fire.

In a burst of activity, the surgeon ran in the side door, panting and carrying his kit at his side. He ran to Vlad's side and plunked the kit down next to the bed. "There are a lot of stairs in this tower. Sorry I'm late," he gasped, and threw a small bow to Sinead as he recognized her in the room. Looking down, he didn't need to be told why he'd been called. Vlad's ruined shoulder drew his attention immediately. He blotted cautiously around the edge of the wound and rinsed it with a bottle of water, positioning a towel under vlad's back to catch the excess. Before blood could refill the wound, he emptied a tube of gel into the wound. When he moved to spread it, though, Vlad's claws burst out of the hand nearest the surgeon, as if to strike on instinct. The surgeon backed away a second, frowning at the claws. He brought out something else he'd brought with him - a pair of cuffs that bound straight together, with no chain.

He had no trouble getting them onto the vampire, and as he returned to clean the wound, he was glad he'd put them on. There was more than one moment when he was certain Vlad would have skewered him if not for the restraints. He moved quickly and threaded his surgical needle, then got to the fun part. Vlad's eyes flashed open, wide with startled pain as the doctor squeezed the wound tight and rejoined the flesh with the needle. Strangely, the pain seemed to wake Vlad enough to give him more self control. He stopped moving, stopped breathing, and just grit his teeth hard enough that his fangs drew blood from his bottom lip. Eventually, he gave in and fell unconscious.

It was all over in a matter of five minutes. The tense surgeon removed the handcuffs and sighed in relief. Sinead had waited to see if Vlad would ask to be put into a sleep, but he hadn't asked, and she wasn't surprised. "I will leave you two alone," she said, sensing that they were more comfort to each other than she could be at the moment. The doctor lingered another minute to bandage Vlad's burned palms and tightly wrap his shoulder, and then they both left the Maiden and Vampire to their own devices in the room.

Tenele rubbed her throat idle for a moment, remembering how tight Lothos's hand had been around it. He could have broken her neck, and yet he hadn't. She went to the hole in the wall to find the guards were now lowering the body from the wall. Good, maybe they would burn it.

She turned and looked around the room, giving a soft smile. "This place is a mess," she said, walking back to Vlad and taking a seat next to him on the bed. "I'll go get a maid to sweep some of the glass up." She went to move to stand, wondering if he would stop her. Wondering if he wanted her to stay put.

If Vlad was conscious of her moving, he didn't show it. His eyes were closed and he looked uncomfortable, but asleep. After he'd passed out, he'd started breathing again in long shuddering pulls, but that only seemed to make him look more hurt, like a kid with a bad fever. He didn't look like he was going anywhere any time soon.

The doctor had told them that the 'allergic' reaction Vlad was showing should recede within 12 hours or so, and then it would just be a matter of normal healing, nothing as dramatic as the symptoms he showed now. There wasn't much more to do about it.

After a few minutes, a maid came up to the tower with a tray laden with food and a package of blood, as well as extra blankets. "The surgeon sent me with some food, and...blood, if Lord Dracul can keep it down," she said nervously. She wasn't used to serving such important servants of the Queen, and something about her manner said she was both admiring/curious about Tenele and definitely afraid of Vlad. She set the tray on the table next to the bed, and laid the folded blankets tentatively next to Vlad's feet. "And I thought I'd grab these too, in case he's cold," she glanced up at Tenele like she might have just said something rude or stupid, "Does he get cold?" she squeaked nervously.

Tenele smiled softly at the girl and gave a nod. "He is right now. He's sick," she said softly, unfolding the covers and draping the blankets on top of the vampire. She leaned forward and gave him a gentle kiss on the forehead.

"Thank you for being so thougtful," Tenele told the girl, glancing at the food longingly. "Would you do me a favor? Would you go and get a broom. I want to sweep up some of the glass and broken things in here so it isn't such a disaster. It might have no windows and a large hole in the wall, but I don't feel like accidently stepping on glass again." She grabbed a peice of food off the plate and began chewing.

The maid watched Tenele eat in fascination. When the queen's maiden asked her to fetch a broom, she grew starry-eyed with enthusiasm. "Yes, Maiden!" she said. She took another nervous glance at the sleeping vampire to reassure herself he was out before leaving the room, sliding on a piece of glass and almost tumbling in her haste.

"Seems you have a fan," Vlad's breathy voice filled the silence after the girl had left. His eyes were closed, but he'd woken up in the middle of their conversation. He smirked, which looked a bit odd with his eyes closed.

Tenele looked down at Vlad as she continued to eat and smiled softly. "I think it is you who have the fan," she told him, giving him another kiss, this time on the cheek. "She brought you blankets, after all." Brushing her hand through her hair she thought for a moment. "Feeling hungry? Or thirsty, however you wish to put it."

Vlad had to think about Tenele's question for a minute. He was used to injuries = hungry, not the old human norm of pain = nauseated, but at the moment the combination of both was a little confusing. "Couldn't hurt," he answered without much enthusiasm, glancing over at the lukewarm blood that was by Tenele.
