Lore: Destroy all that Binds

The Mountain of May'em is one of the largest mountains in Heirot, standing like a shadow over the Ishtassy village. To get to the village you must travel through the Ra'esh Desert and over the mountain.

Soran was hanging still from his wrists when he heard a faint voice coming from what sounded like several layers of wall away. He raised an eyebrow suspiciously; he'd been fairly sure he was the only one being held down here, but that sound had definitely seemed urgent. He couldn't make out what it said. He considered the possibility that something had happened to the girl who was harassing him earlier, and despite himself wondered if she was alright. "Hey, Kid!" he called out sternly, his scored chest burning with the effort.

Mayn stared at the dark angel, still shocked by the turn of events and a little afraid of the strange winged being. She froze in place like a deer in headlights, torn between doing what they said and hoping for assistance somehow. Reya was going to be so mad....

When Siren was close enough, she slipped her hand to the handle of her whip, releasing the magical weapon from around her waist and quickly sending it flying to wrap around Mayn's hands and wrists tightly so that she couldn't use them for casting, or for that wicked magical arrow. At the same time, she ceased the magic around her hands, so that the girl wouldn't figure out the bluff. The whip coiled around to the center of the hands, immobilizing the fingers and holding tight, the link to Siren causing it to hold fast.

This way, Siren could feel any movement if the girl did try to get a spell off that way. She hoped that that was the main way her magic worked.

"Now that's better. You're going to take us to Soran now."

To accentuate her point, Siren gave a tug on the whip, pulling Mayn off balance enough to stumble but not likely to fall.

"I'll keep an eye on her," Siren said to Mizuki with a grim grin. "You try and make sure we're heading towards Rai and hopefully Soran."

Mizuki nodded. She searched for both Rai and Soran, it was almost immpossible with all the magic that was eminating from this place. Soran's mind was just barely linkable, it was fatigued and dangerously close to blackness. Rai though, was frightened and lost but...

Soran and Rai's minds were getting closer, or was that just the magic surrounding making it seem that way?

Mayn stumbled forward, looking suddenly like any normal, scared little girl as she began walking between Siren and Mizuki. They went down a hallway in the direction Rai had gone, and soon she came into sight, standing near a large steel door with no handle. Mayn blinked at the girl. Accident or not, she seemed to have a good intuition, because that was the correct door. Bending slightly to get her hands up to the lock, she squeezed a finger against the touchpad on the door and it glowed for an instant before sliding aside, leading htem into another corridor. Several corridors later, she finally came up to a large door. This one was plated with black marble tile that had no visible cracks; a perfect ward against magic from outside, marking it as probably the most important place they'd come so far. With a regretful sigh and a backward glance at Siren's stern expression, she pressed her skin to the lock. The door clicked, shifted backward and then slid up into the ceiling, opening the way into a large circular chamber lined in marble. The edge of the room was divided into three-walled cells facing inward, but only one had a row of glowing blue magical bars set in front of it.

Soran was in that cell. He'd heard the door open, but from his angle in the room he couldn't tell who was there. Holding his tongue, he narrowed his eyes and stared coldly, watching to see his undoubtedly unwanted visitor.

Rai looked up and saw Soran. "Soran!" she screamed happily, though it faded out when she saw him chained up. She ran forward to go through the door and see him.

Mizuki patted Rai's shoulder, making sure she was completely fine. When the door opened Mizuki's eyes immediantly spotted the glowing orbs. She didn't have to think twice of who was there. She snatched Rai up in her arms to run to Soran quickly.

Soran's eyes widened in shock. It was them. He saw them come into view and stand in front of him, and he suddenly would have given anything to get his arms free. It was a dream. It had to be; this couldn't be real. The first thought that struck him was to run to them, but his feet hung just off the ground from where he was several feet back in the cell. Instead he stared, abandoning a hundred insufficient things he could have said to express the stunned relief and confusion he felt at that moment. He'd thought he would never see them again. Really, fully believed it.

His eyes locked on Mizuki's, saying far more than his mouth ever could. "How?" was all he could manage, his voice hoarse from exhaustion.

Siren almost couldn't believe that the girl had actually taken them to him. She knew better than to take her focus off of the girl, since she was likely their only way back out, but relief flooded through her when she saw that Soran was still alive.

Mizuki couldn't stop the flow of tears from her eyes as she ran with Rai in her arms the rest of the way to Soran's cell. She unconsciously touched the button which unlocked the cell to Soran and, without thinking about it, Mizuki took herself and Rai into the cell where Soran was and all she could do was cry and stare and smile.

"Soran...shhh" she whispered to quiet him and touched his face with her free hand. She almost couldn't believe he was alive. He felt so close to death... He still was. She finally looked at the rest of him and saw the blood and scars marring his body. "Oh god... We need to get you down."

Mizuki's touch sparked through him like electricity, making him forget his frazzled nerves. Half-closing his eyes, he pressed into her hand. He felt more awake than he had in days. He didn't know why they were here, or how they found him. He should have yelled at them for putting themselves in danger, but he didn't want to. He cast a brief, knowing glance at Siren. They were here anyway; he could scold them later.

He looked up at the steel bracer locked over his blackened wrists, and looked quickly back to Mizuki and Rai. Though they'd been that way for weeks, looking at his hands still made him want to cringe. "In my right pocket," he said quietly to Mizuki. During one of his torture sessions, he'd managed to pry a barbed needle out of his shoulder with his teeth and hide it there until Jhaptal left him again. He'd kept it in his pocket, waiting for a chance where using it might be productive. He wondered if Mizuki had any experience picking locks; if not, he could talk her through it.

Mizuki flinched when she looked up at his hands. She quickly set Rai down on her feet and looked in Soran's right pocket. She found the barbed needle then reach up to his shackles. She had to search for the lock but she found it and started to pick at it. While she concentrated on picking at the lock she tried to talk to Soran.

"What were they doing to you?" she asked before thinking. Not the kind of conversation she had in mind but...

"You know. Playing cards. Parcheesey. Some kickball, with me as the ball," Soran said casually, though his voice sounded like someone was standing on his chest. Sarcasm sounded odd coming from his mouth, but he suddenly felt his pride dig in and make him not want to admit he'd been perpetually and helplessly tortured for the past two weeks. He hoped his body didn't look as bad as it felt.

Rai looked up at Soran curiously. She walked up to him and smiled. "Missed you!" she said to him with a grin.

She didn't know if she needed to heal him now or if she needed to wait. She would wait until someone told her, and if they didn't she would do it then.

Mizuki frowned at his sarcasm but let it pass. She'd get him later when he was better. Finaly, she heard the clock of the locks releasing and Soran's shackles dropped him back on his feet. Mizuki caught him to keep him steady.

"Alright?" she asked him. Her voice still shook with her desire to throw her arms around him and... not now.

Soran looked down at Rai and gave her a faint smile. "I missed you too, kid. Did you work on your swimming?"
