Siren nodded thoughtfully. "If it's magic they're using, the chances of finding a hidden entrance that would be discreet seem pretty low," she said. "Moving as quickly as possible seems to be our only option, but it's still not a good one." She looked hesitant, toying with a strand of her hair uncomfortably. "Mizu, before Soran left, he told me to make sure nothing happened to you and Rai. He left you in my care. If we go after him, we're in their territory and we seem to be up against something big. Soran left us so we wouldn't have to fight these people, and now our chances look worse than I thought. Soran is my master..." She raised her eyes to look directly into Mizuki's, a fiery glint in her aquamarine irises. "But you are my friend. Please...what should I do?"
Mizuki listened to Siren then stared at her. But to leave Soran here, when she knew he was in pain... it was like abandoning him. Mizuki couldn't do it. Her heart ached.
"We've..been up against things like this before." She tried to smile but her eyes glistened with unshed tears. "Why would now be any different?" Pain was in her eyes as she realized Siren, her compainion and friend, was suffering from where her loyalties lay... and losing a precious friend. "I cannot leave him like this..." Mizuki said softly. "Not after that night before all of this..." She looked back at Siren, it was clear they were to keep going.
"I love him and I cannot leave him behind, at least not without trying."

Siren had begun to not understandingly with an almost grim expression, but her demeaner shifted quickly to a quirky grin. A mischevious sparkle lingered in her eyes.
"The night before all this?" she teased.
"Well, we'll try it then, but the safety of the two of you has to be my highest priority in there. If I'm going to dissobey and allow you to be at risk, I had better do my best to keep you as safe as possible."
She looked at Rai to make sure she understood the situation, then summoned two vials from her bag.
"Keep these with you. They'll help speed up your movements temporarily in case we need to make a run for it" before she turned away, she added in a low voice, "side effects unknown, but may, possibly, not likely but who knows, include strangely fast-growing body hair and nail growth."
OOC: haha one from the real Siren 0_~

Mizuki took the vials and handed one to Rai. As of right now, Mizuki didn't care if the potions made her ugly for a day, as long as they did their job.
Mizuki moved to go back down where they came. She tried to get in contact with Soran, telling him their were coming but she had no idea if he had heard her or not.

Mayn walked casually down the hallway toward the stairs with her hands up behind her head, swinging her feet childishly out in front of her. She was glad to be done with her tour-guiding for the day, feeling she was far overqualified for such a task. Now she could get down to what she'd really been hoping to do for a while. It had been more than a week since she'd helped to bring the elf here, but she'd heard nothing of how he was doing. She wanted to investigate for herself. Of course, Reya had special wards on the lower level, but she'd been down there before, and was pretty sure Reya didn't know she had learned to magically neutralize the signs of her presence so that she could wander there undetected.
Grinning curiously, she made her way down the stairs, focusing on hiding herself from Reya's sensors, until she was at the base of the stairs. SHe checked the cell where they'd left him when they first arrived, but he didn't seem to be there, though there was blood smeared across the floor. Continuing on down the hall, she arrived at the large circular room that was reserved for top-security experiments, and sure enough she found him inside. It was tricky getting through the magical barriers, which to one as magically--aware as Mayn was like walking through a thick steam. She realized as she walked closer to the only form in the room that he was not in terrific shape, and wrinkled her nose in distaste.
"My my, what happened to you, mister?" she asked as she drew near to the magical bars and looked up at him.
Soran's eyes had been clenched tightly, focusing on ignoring the sensation in his wrists as he hung from them. The roar of pain in his ears kept him from noticing her until she spoke, at which point he looked up at her sharply, his body hanging uncannily still from the bindings as his grim eyes scanned and recognized her. He wanted to avoid any unnecessary movements that would force his weight to shift on his wrists, which already felt like they could snap at any moment.
"You don't seem very comfortable," Mayn frowned, "I'm surprised they didn't just off you already," she commented, kicking idly at a spot on the floor.
"Children shouldn't use such words," Soran criticized flatly, uninterested in the girl. He was having difficulty keeping his voice even as it was.
"Sounds like someone's underestimating me," Mayn teased, passing a finger playfully back and forth between one of the glowing bars of Soran's cell. "Maybe I should just put you out of your misery?" A blue shard of blazing energy formed in her hand, stretching slowly until it materialized into an arrow. Her hands shifted as if to grasp an imaginary bow, and she drew the arrow back playfully. "How does it feel to be at the mercy of a 'little girl', mister Nightblade?" she smirked.
"You don't frighten me," Soran said calmly, sounding tired. He looked straight into her eyes, not seeming to notice or care about the arrow. "Where is lady Reya?"
"Too busy to talk to the likes of you," she countered, lowering the bow. She was clearly disappointed in his lack of reaction.
"I see," Soran said, and looked away again. When he thought she'd leave, suddenly a searing fire in his right thigh sent a convulsion of pain through his body. He choked out a curse and glared at Mayn in astonishment; she was already strolling out of the room with a smirk across her face.
"That's for underestimating me," she said venomously, and walked out of the room.
"Haah," Soran breathed as the magical fire kept eating away at his flesh. It seemed the arrow wasn't going out. He kicked at it with the other leg, which he regretted immediately, and finally curled his back until he could bite onto the end of the arrow and rip it out with his teeth. It fell to the ground soundlessly, and after a minute it dispersed into energy again. Soran held his breath harshly, waiting for the pain to dim. Whatever she'd shot him with, it hadn't been nearly as strong as the one she'd used on Rai. This shot hadn't been intended to really wound him; just to assert her strength and get a rise out of him. Soran guessed from her manner that she never considered that shooting someone who was already incapacitated was an unimpressive display of strength.
(OOC: There's my long going-away post. I'll be back next Saturday! Whaa)

Rai was interly too bored with all of this. Why couldn't they just barge in? She didn't even remember where the place was... Though, she hadn't been paying attention either.
She glanced over and saw a strong pretty light floating around. She tilted her head and walked over to it. It giggled and floated down the steps.
"Hey, come back!" Rai whispered and raced to follow it.

Jhaptal removed the weapons from his forearms, rubbing and massaging them a bit. He was able to see the advantages a magical blade had over a solid metal one, he had twisted his arms slightly when he had messed up the angle while slicing at a tree. Though he would probably be able to find someone in the lab that would be able to create a set like the ones Soran currently had, doing so would be ungrateful to Reya, who had gone out of her way to have his current set made for him.
Jhaptal had stopped his practice when he realized that Reya's speech was about finished, and knew that she would be in one of two places: her room, or the area where Soran was being held. The ninja knew Reya well enough to guess that she would be in her room, probably trying to delay the execution of the elf.
His suspicion was confirmed when he entered her room and found the sorceress pacing. "Should you not be attending to other matters?" he asked.

Reya turned to Jhaptal when his voice announced his presence. Her elegant face seemed slightly tighter than usual. "I should," she conceded, pacing to the window. "I'm just...gathering my thoughts. How are the blades?" she asked, clearly trying to avoid the subject. She didn't want to seem so unsettled, but her resolution seemed to be cracking with every minute she put it off.

"All right. If that's settled, then we may as well give it a shot," Siren said boldly, taking mental stock of the potions and weapons she had on hand. "Lead the way." Mizuki's decision to go after Soran was actually quite liberating; suddenly she wanted nothing more than to make sure he was in one piece and get him as far away from here as possible. She didn't know any details, but Mizuki apparently shared a special link with him, and if he was in as much danger as she seemed to think, they had no time to lose. She moved toward the door Mizuki had emerged from and glanced down at Rai....at least, where she had been a moment ago. "Rai?" she said sharply.
_ _ _
Mayn climbed up the steps feeling sulky; the elf hadn't been any fun after all. Even when she shot him, he seemed unimpressed; almost like he was looking down on her. She paused in the stairwell, having half a mind to go back there and try to get a more attentive response from him. If she couldn't get a prisoner to respect her, how was she going to prove her importance to Lady Reya?

Mizuki turned around sharply. "What?" she tried to keep her voice steady but she couldn't help sounding both frightened and angry at the same time. "Where'd did she go?" she demanded. There was a set of stairs to the left and Mizuki went to them and peered down. It was too dark to see, and she couldn't risk calling out to her. She cursed inwardly.

The door Rai stood at pushed open to reveal a dark walkway. It was too dark to see, but very echoey because the walls and floor were made of cold marble. Apparently she'd stumbled into one of the outer sections of Reya's dungeon, one that wasn't guarded by magically sealed locks. Had Reya been paying attention, she would have sensed Rai's intrusion instantly, but Reya was thinking about other things.
* * *
"Maybe she tried to go after Soran alone," Siren said tensely. If anything happened to Rai, Soran was going to kill her.

Rai stood at the entrance staring into the darkness she could barely see in. It was creepy. "Hello?" Rai's tiny voice said to the darkness and her voice came back at her.
Rai began to walk in, hugging her arms as she walked into the darkness a head. Maybe they were keeping Soran down here? Hmm...
"Soran?" she asked softly, her voice echoing lightly.
No, they wouldn't keep Soran someplace that wasn't protected... He would get out.

Mizuki heard the tiny echo of a small voice from beyond the staircase. Mizuki blessed her elven half. "She's down there! I heard her!" She put her foot on the first step then momentarily hesitated. What if it was a trap? Do they know they are here? Mizuki bit her lower lip then closed her eyes, maybe she could link to Rai's mind...
'Rai..' she called out trying to reach Rai's mind.
OOC: was I allowed to do that or were you guys trying to do something else? >_>;

OOC: Nope we weren't doing anything. Just couldn't think of anything so I decided to make her wonder off. Rai's not good with this reading minds thing yet
"Rai..."
Rai turned around. She was a bit scared of the dark. Well, dark places she wasn't used to. Like that time Soran and Mizuki and Siren left her and Blade alone in the house...
"H-hello?" she asked to the darkness, hugging herself more as she looked around wildly. "Whose there... I'm a big scary dragon! I'll eat you! RARRRR!!!"

Jhaptal quirked an eyebrow at Reya's obvious avoidance of the subject. "The blades work well," he replies curtly "But stop avoiding the issue. This is something you've been planning for months, ever since the failure of the Zaraxi experiment. The sheer fact that that elf continues living is the last barrier between you and more strength." This was all stated calmly and as facts.
