Soran narrowed his eyes, considering her words and measuring her eyes. Frankly, he didn't have a clue what she could or couldn't do. The only thing he knew was that she wouldn't lie. "You can control that ability, then?" he asked, a little relieved but also wary. She knew what he'd thought of her entering his mind. Was she really ok? He would hate it if his reaction hurt her, but there were things in his mind he wasn't ready to show her for a myriad of reasons. Some things should never make it out of your mind, let alone out of your mouth.

Rai was curled up napping on a cloak that someone had given her to lay on. She was snoozing just fine, rolling over everynow and then. She was so tired though that she didn't even notice that there was a spider crawling on her arm. Thank the Gods she didn't or she might just have gone insane then and there.
In the bushes movement happened.
A child screamed.
"Mommy! A wolf! A wolf!"
"Child there isn't a wolf there!" the voice of a mother said.
"Mommy, I saw a wolf!"
"Stop lying and be quiet." the mother told her son.
The movement in the bushes grew until it caught the attention of a few more people. A few more people looked in the direction of the bushes, expecting soldiers to rush out and slay them all.
A wolf emerged slowly, his green eyes flashing around at the people of the incampment. He knew they would probably try and kill him, but maybe Soran or Mizuki would recognize him and claim him as a pet or something. He really didn't want to transform and take a away his one day a year.
He might need it again one day and not be able too.

Soran had to take his attention from the coughing Mizuki to scan the trees warily for the cause of the sudden commotion. An animal stepped out into their presence, and the elf immediately began climbing to his feet. It wasn't that it was a wolf...but for a wolf to willingly approach a large group of humans, it had to be sick or possessed, or worse. Before he'd fully stood, however, he recognized the pattern of the creature's fur and a thin layer of aggression faded in his mind. He wasn't 100 percent sure...it had been a long time, but it certainly would explain a lot about the animal's behavior if it was Rai's old guardian. Still, it made no sense. He looked at Mizuki and removed his hand that had rested on her shoulder, pacing off toward the wolf.

Rai squeeled in a high-pitched excited way that startled most on edge people into sudden panic and soon a large number of people were screaming at once. She ran forward giggling excitedly. "TOBY!!!" She screamed and jumped on the wolf, and suddenly all the parents were grabbing there kids and running away.
"Let the beast have the crazed child! Its not getting mine!" she side as she grabbed up her ten year old son and ran with him, his feet dragging the ground.
"Toby, Toby, Toby, Toby!!!"

Once Mizuki's sputtering subsided, she looked up to see Rai pounce the vicious looking wolf. Rai screaming 'Toby', put Mizuki at ease long before she could even see the wolf. Smiling mostly to herself, Mizuki watched Rai lovingly reunite herself with Toby. It was touching, that wolf had disappeared how long ago? Mizuki was almost afraid he had died.
She looked around herself awkwardly, watching people flee away from the wolf. 'They'd understand in time,' Mizuki thought to herself, partially rolling her eyes at the people's overactive imaginations. Her eyes fell on Soran's back and her emotions sobered and her eyes fell towards the ground. She couldn't, not have the powers... her mother passed them on to her. She couldn't stop herself from comparing Soran and her father; Mizuki's father loved her mother's powers and actually hoped for Mizuki to inherite them.
She sighed. That wasn't fair to compare Soran to her father. Mizuki sulked off quietly away from the commotion. They had Soran to protect them and she needed some time to think. After walking for some minutes, Mizuki found herself at a lake fed by the river that cut through most of the Ashgrown Forest. She sat down by the shore and curled her knees to her chest, and just gazed out at the water in silence.

The sudden ruckus of men and women screaming and running made Soran's expression harden. He moved to the center of the group, stopped abruptly, and shouted "Hold!" at the top of his volume range. The words echoed around them, floating through the woods and slowly absorbing into the morning air. All movement suddenly stopped. "It's a pet. Pull yourselves together and shut your mouths, or do you want to fight Arken again before night falls?" The stern rage in his voice sobered the rest of the refugees, who slowly converged back on the center of camp.
Soran ignored them and went to Rai and Toby's side, not yet aware that Mizuki was missing. He didn't fully trust Toby, because the wolf had been conveniently missing since their skirmish with Queen Shea first began. "It's been some time," he said, not unfriendly, to the wolf.

Distantly, Mizuki could hear Soran calling out to the people. The corners of her lips pulled up, trying to smile but was abolished quickly. Staring at the water with an intensity that one would think that she meant to BE the water, Mizuki felt something along her spine tingle. It wasn't a bad tingle, it was more of a magic induced tingle. She let herself go into it, letting the magic flood into her and take over her senses.
She never felt herself fall over into the water and drift into the center of the lake. She was in a trance; having slipped from consciousness into her subconscious. She came awake in that state to find herself engulfed in a flowing white garment of silk, and the place clouded and misty.
"Hello?" her voice echoed into the mist.
"Dear daughter you have my attention." Mizuki recognized that voice. One she had longed to hear for ages...
"Father?"
"Yes daughter, I am here with you." She wanted to leap at him but... he was no where to be found. It was a sobering fact, but she was quickly understanding.
"I'm in...the Land of the Dead?"
"Your at the Gate where seers like you and your mother communicate with us. And I called you."
"What is it father?" Mizuki wished she could see his face through the mist and cloud, but all he was to her now was a well remembered voice... warning her of something.
"The Arken army has a magi like you on their side. She is a necromantic seer. Undead. She is scrying for you as we speak. They know of you Mizuki, and they wish to obtain you to kill you."
"Why?"
"Your a powerful ally to the side of Light, you can predict Arken's moves. They want you dead. It is important that you stay out of the witches scrying ranges by obstaining from your use of power."
"But father--"
"It's your only chance." his voice was urgent. "Rely on your elven blood and Soran's. You can manage without powers, you have before."
"Yes..." Mizuki bowed her head
"Now return to the Living Realm, my daughter. I miss you and your mother dearly..."

"Hehe! Come on Toby!" She said, running off with the wolf into the forest. They skipped and played, as Toby was very happy to see her in such good health. They last time they had seen eachother her parents had just died. She seemed happy and content.
The river could be heard up a head and Rai decided she would show Toby her swimming skills. "Come on Toby!"

OOC: Hey guys, I know we're working on the new site but... What's the future of this thread now if no one's even around anymore? -sigh- I'll try to keep it moving if I can...
IC: After some minutes just floating in the water like she was a corpse, Mizuki came to from her encounter with her long dead father and waded out of the water back to shore. With this new knowledge, Mizuki understood more of the situation of their group of fugitives. As long as she used her powers, the soldier's could continue to find their small band within the forests.
She had to lock them away.
Wet and a bit chilled, Mizuki sat cross-legged on the shore of the river's collected lake and closed her eyes concentrating. She used the same idea she had when she closed her mind connection from Soran's... just lock it away like it never existed. She imagined a small box with a lock on it and she concentrated the bulk of her seer abilities into the box, and when she saw them all into it, she locked the imagined box and hid it far into her subconscious.
Fairly simple, but she came awake feeling quite drained and empty. Mizuki never realized how much different it felt to not have something you had grown used to having. She felt normal, and without purpose, and weak. Soran was right to be wary of her magic, it got them in trouble. No good had really come out of it in the end.
Well, now would be different she told herself, trying to see the best of an ill feeling inside of her. She could get even closer to Soran without his fear of magic getting in the way of their budding relationship. Sure, she couldn't warn them of danger but they were perfectly capable of protecting themselves.
It be would alright, and maybe... she wouldn't have to use her powers ever again.
But she still felt a strange sickness inside of her.

"Here I go, Toby!" she said with a cheer as she ran along the river bank towards a bolder seated perfectly at the edge of a nice sand bed, which cleverly and cleanly met the waters edge. She jumped upon the rock, taking one last look at Toby, and then went sailing off into the crystal water. It was rather cold, so cold she screamed playfully when she came back to the surface.
Kicking her legs sharply and flapping her arms underwater she giggled as she swam back towards the sand bed, the water gradually growing shallower. Rai, so caught up into showing Toby her new tricks did not even look to see if anyone else was around. Sometimes children could be very oblivious.

Mizuki came up with a start at Rai's cry. She felt unprepared without her powers. It took Mizuki longer than normal to realize that Rai wasn't in danger and drowning. Instead she was playing with Toby. Sighing deeply, trying to calm her heart, Mizuki realized that all of life's little surprises were completely lost on a seer. Now, without her powers she could get startled like any other person. She smiled, she had forgotten what those little moments felt like.
She watched Rai swim in the cold waters, Toby watching close by, and called out to her adopted daughter.
"Hey you! Don't get sick in there!" she called smiling. It seemed that the just recent disaster and danger they were in... was far away.

Rai looked at her and grinned. "I won't get sick!" she said, though she had no more clothes. All they had was the clothes on there backs... She would have to dry in the cooling fall breeze.
"Okay, its too cold to swim!" she said, giggling as she sloshed out of the water, slining cold water all over Toby, though he didn't seemed to care.

Mizuki smiled and realized both her and Rai were wet from the lake. Mizuki's clothes though were slowly drying already. Seeing that they were apart from the group long enough, Mizuki decided it was time for them to head back and started to make her way towards the two.
"Come on, let's go back." she held out her hand to Rai and regarded Toby with a nod. "We've missed you Toby."

Soran was too distracted organizing the troops to worry too much about Rai. He wanted to know why Toby had reappeared, but there would be time later. After a little over a half hour had passed, the group was gathered together and ready to move out.
It was only then that he had time to really miss the absence of Mizuki and Rai. He sat down on a log tiredly, sweat beading on his brow. He'd managed to work off his fever with the morning's activities, but his body still felt the previous night's strain from the fire and his narrow rescue. Add to that the stress of holding fate of the remnants of an entire city in your hands. God, what was he going to do with these people? They were anxious, they were scared. They were angry and in need of supplies. Children kept walking up to him for some kind of reassurance, and he didn't know what to do with them. Just as he thought it, a small hand pulled at the cuff of his pants. "Um, Mister Soran, where is my daddy?" said a young boy, looking determined but close to tears. "No one will tell me or look for him. But I'm sure he's worried about me! You'll look for him, won't you?"
Soran raised his head and looked instinctively for Mizuki. Everyone who'd survived was already in this group, and if they weren't, it would risk the rest of the group to search for them. He didn't know what to say without sounding callous.
