"Elena! It's crazy to stay here," a sternness filled his voice, "I won't let you stay here."
He through her a daring glance. He didn't even pay the other woman any attention. He hoped Elena wouldn't sit here and argue with him but had a feeling she wouldn't give up so easily.
"We'll come back as soon as it's safe," he added. He didn't know what to do about the rest of the village or if they were even still alive.

Elena narrowed her violet eyes on him. "Airen I'm tired of running. I'm tired of fighting. I'm tired of the bad guys forcing us away from places I want to stay. I'm tired of it!"
She heled the puppy tighter and it started to growl as if it were a full grown dog.
Elena backed up slightly, holding the puppy out in front of her and looking at the thing, trying to figure out what was wrong.
The dog began to alter dramatically. The puppy grew longer and wider until what she had her hands on was not a puppy at all. It was a tall, 8 foot tall, thing with a body of a human and the head of a black wolf.
Its fur faded away anto the shoulders and chest, bare blackish gray skin went all the way down. He had four strongly muscled arms sticking out of his sides and two normal looking legs, but his feet were in the shape of a wolf's hind legs.
Elena's hands were on his shoulders from where she had been holding the puppy. The wolfs head altered and drew backwards, forming a human like had with no nose or facial hair. There were no eyebrows or hair on his head. Nothing.
Elena's eyes were wide with shock, surprise, and most of all fear. She couldn't move of budge, because she couldn't believe that such a cute puppy had turned into something so frightening.
The hidious thing grinned frighteningly at her and she jumped back away from him. But, not before he could grab her with his form arms and jump from the window with Elena reaching out for Airen as she disappeared into the darkness.

Airen reached for Elena but it was too late. "Elena!" he screamed. His heart dropped to his feet and he could feel himself getting sick. He fell down in front of the window and put his face in his hands.
He lifted his head and saw the young woman standing in front of him. Her slender body shadowed his face. She was really pretty. "I can't believe I let them get her again." he mumbled, "I swore to her that I would always protect her." He turned his head back to where Elena had stood only moments earlier. He shook his head, "I have failed her."

Lenna just stood her ground, eyes wide. It all happened so quickly. She stood there stunned. She heard the young man say something but it didn't register to her exactly what he had said. On impulse she ran towards the door, and looked outside in the direction the monster had taken the girl. They were gone. Out of sight.
The army had left the town also. The streets were deserted. Nothing made a single sound. Lenna lowered her eyes, shook her head in pity and sighed a heavy sigh. "Now what?" she wondered.
Lenna turned back and stepped inside the house. She saw the man kneeling on the floor, almost in tears. She started over toward him, and said," I'm really sorry I couldn't save her. It all happened so fast," she crouched down next to him. "The army's gone, and I don't believe anyone's left. It seems as though those mongrals got what they wanted, so I guess I'll be going," she got up and walked slowly to the door. She turned around and said caringly and quiet, "Do you still want to come with me?"

Airen looked up at her again and sighed,"I swore that I would never let anything happen to her. I failed her. I failed our child."
His emotions fought between sadness and anger. He wanted to destroy eveything around him, but would that do. It wouldn't bring Elena back. The burning inside him grew grew to the verge of bursting out of him. He had to control himself. He couldn't hurt the young woman in his uncontrollable rage.
"I have to go after her," he finally answered. "You can help me if you like. I can't promise it won't be dangerous." Her green eyes pierced through him as she stared at him. Airen felt completely weak and helpless for the first time since his mother died in his arms.
"I'm Airen," he said, standing up and stretching out a gentle hand. His feelings had finally cooled and his head was a little more clear.

Lenna thought to herself. She didn't know what she should do. He might actually need help. She couldn't do much to help stop Queen Shea but she thought she should try. After all, she didn't know how this...Airen was going to protect himself against the armies and demons of the evil queen. Should she go along to help fiend off the evil? That was her duty now, after her brother settled down.Who knows it might be an interesting adventure.
Lenna tries not to get to close to people for you never know who, when or how someone might get killed. She doesn't want her heart to get involved. It was a tough decision, but something tugged her into feeling sorry for the poor guy, just lossing his wife and all. She looked down at the floor in concentration, and then back up at Airen. She reached for his hand,"I'm Lenna, and yes...I will go with you. You lead, I'll follow. I don't know of how much help I'll be, but I will try."

"Thanks" Airen replied as she took his hand. Her skin was soft and smooth.
Walking along te road to the Border, Airen broke the silence by asking,"So where are you from?" She glowed in the beautiful sunlight. Her green eyes glittering.
The town they had left seemed to be ghost town. There was no one left. Airen felt sad as he thought about the happiness he and Elena found there. It seemed that they would never find true peace. He forced a smile on his face as they walked so that Lenna couldn't read anything off of his expression. He didn't like for people to know how he was feeling without him telling them.

This guy seemed to be upset (and she knew with what), Lenna could tell from the look in his eyes and the way he walked, but she wouldn't ask. She knew how it felt to be quized about everything, and she didn't like it, so Lenna stayed away from the question 'what's wrong'.
Lenna walked down the road, quiet most of the way. She didn't talk to new people very often, but this guy was different. He was easy to be around. When he suddenly asked her the question of where she was from, she awoke from her daydream and became alert again. "Where am I from?" she repeated, "It's not important. Just know that I'm not from Arroes. My brother settled with his wife in a small village aside of Ighten. I left there when I was 16. Where are you originally from?" she asked trying to start up a conventional conversation. She, being silly and trying to break the tension, picked a flower on the side of the road, placed it in her hair and shot a goofy grin across to Airen.

Airen laughed at her gesture and commented, "That's lovely!" He smiled and shook his head. He picked a flower himself and stuck behind his ear. "How do I look?" He laughed again.
"I'm from the Border. Well... I was born in a small village deep in the mountains. It was destroyed by the gods when I was fairly young." He didn't know if the village was really cursed and destroyed by the gods, but that is what his mother had told him and that is what he believed. "My mother and I ran into the wilderness for safety but she passed on a few years later." He shivered at the thought of his mother's death. It still pierced his heart every time he remembered it.
After a brief silence he continued, "I set out for Ighten and met Halmar. He was murdered soon after me and Elena met." He lowered his head at the thought of how hard his life had been, but he remembered all the good things that had come of it.
"Shall we set up camp here for the night?" he suggested looking toward the setting sun. They really needed to set up camp but he also wanted to change the subject.
"The nearest town is a good ways off..." he finally added.

Lenna sighed and found a grassy knoll next to a small pond. She sat down on a thick patch of grass and layed her bow and quiver down beside her. She looked up at Airen," Sure. It's getting dark anyways and...," looking around at the surrounding area," I'm getting hungry. Should I go out and find something for us to eat while you start a fire?"
She watched Airen as if he were part of a still portrate silhouetted by the dusky sky. She tilted her head to the side and just sat in her own thoughts. He was very strong looking-mentally and physically. Lenna was tired and still trying to figure out how or why she actually got mixed up in this situation.

"Sure," he replied, "Just be careful." He figured that he didn't have to watch her every move like he did Elena. He couldn't help but worry because she still seemed rather small and fragile. "If you need anything just hollar."
He found a good spot on the ground to build a fire and began gathering some sticks and limbs. He layed them down in a small pile and they caught fire as if on their own. Airen smiled slightly as he recognized how much his power had grown. He played with the fire and made it dance around the area. It whipped through the air spinning and spiraling.

Lenna started out towards the thick forest nearby. The wind whipped her hair and the cool grass smelled good. Lenna had a passion for wildlife and loved the outdoors. When she discovered she could charm animals, her passion for nature thrived even more. On the contrary to her fondness, she still killed for food, but thanked the animal for laying down its life for hers.
In the distance she heard birds chattering, and chipmunks skurry from branch to branch. A twig cracked behind a bush as a hare came hopping into sight. It munched on clover and then looked up at Lenna. Her arrow was raised and she had her aim. She stared the hare down for a moment, sort of hypnotizing it. "Don't you move, Mr. Hare. You're fixin to be my supper. Oh yea," the arrow flew and struck the creature just behind its shoulder," and thank you for being so cooperative."
Lenna was smiling as she came back to the camp carrying a sack full of wild berries and edible greens. The bow and quiver on her back and the fresh kill in her hand made her feel useful again, since she was not just hunting for herself. "I hope this will be enough," Lenna said to Airen as she sat everything down next to the fire. She popped a blackberry in her mouth to sooth the growing hunger pains in her stomach. Lenna rolled a rock closer to the fire and as she sat down she pulled out her knife to skin their dinner. She was proud of herself and the smile she wore proved it.

Airen smiled and looked at her arm load of gatherings. "That will be plenty." He walked over and picked up the sacks.
"That was quick." He mused as he reached out and picked up the now full waterskins.. "I refilled the waterskins. I found a small stream not to far from here."
He watched as she cleaned the hare and realized something. She was a lot more help than Elena had been. A feeling of depression flooded him as he remembered Elena, and their unborn child. He missed her soft voice and her sweet lips. He had failed to protect her once again. He glanced back over to Lenna and forced a fake smile upon his face, trying to hide his hurting heart.

As she sat on the rock, cleaning their supper, Lenna's thoughts wondered from the forest back to Hepian. Her bother had settled in a small village there not too long ago with his wife and daughter. She wondered how they were doing and if she and Airen made a slight detour they could stop by there and check in. Not saying Lenna didn't worry about Elena's fate but she wasn't all that ancious to run into Queen Shea's army or the witch herself. She hummed as she worked.
"There's a stream nearby?!" she asked, excitedly," Now I can clean up a bit." She had been so used to being alone that she had kind of let herself go. She hurried with the skinning for she was sure Airen was getting impatient. As the sun sank even further in the western sky, throwing off its purples, pinks and oranges into the midnight blue taking over, the wind turned slightly cool. Lenna shivered. She was now very thankful Airen had built a fire.
Having finished her set task, Lenna grabbed a stick nearby and threaded the meat onto it. She then placed it over the fire and began roasting the savory hare. She held out another stick to Airen. "So, where to next? Where do you think they took her?"

Airen knew exactly where they were taking her and cringed at the thought of it. "They are taking her to Arroes... that's all I know." He knew that Shea wanted their baby and would get him by any means.
"Are you up for crossing the Border?" he asked jokingly. He knew she was perfectly capable of making the journey. He and Elena had made it a couple of times after all.
