LORE: A Barmaid's Grief

The only known village of the J'ra people. A peaceful place full of culture and beauty. Those who do not wish to brave the seas to be taught by the grand warriors in Ongoreth come here thinking they can be trained by these people, but this is a mistake.

Avera knew better than to speak a word to her horse, Buck, even though it was obvious that there was no real danger around. Seeing her coming out of the woods, Buck came toward her and nuzzled her with his velvet-soft black nose. Whatever had startled him was apparently no longer a threat. Avera's hand rubbed his neck and shoulder as she stepped to his side to tighten his saddle. In less than a minute, she was mounting him, her dark brown cloak billowing behind her as she swung her right leg over his tall back.

Avera had been riding for two or three minutes when she spotted the probable reason for Buck's earlier whinny...

Tristen... Her eyes narrowed for a second at the recognition of the arrogant boy that gave her Zac such problems. She pulled Buck down a different path. It'll only be an extra 5 minutes, tops... & it'll so be worth it... she thought as she rode on toward her home.

The morning rays of sun filtered through the curtains of his room. It was what woke him to the fact it was morning. Zac wasn't a morning person at all, but he wasn't the type to spend all day lying in bed.

He went to Avera's room and knocked on the door, stepping in and puting his hand on her shoulder.

"Avera... you'll be late for work if you don't get up," he told her and began to walk out of the room to go back to his to change.

Ugg... Avera moaned as she rolled over toward her brother. Avera sat up on the edge of the bed, her long legs causing her feet to brush the floor.

"I'm up," she promised with sleepy eyes -- her late night was going to cause her to need a stout cup of tea to completely wake up. "Are you still going to ride with me to town? You can go over to the house & tell Momma that I'll take a thermos of strong tea 'to go' if you are * with smirk* because we've got to get going," she explained.

"I need to look for a place to live," Zac said, as he finished the last buttons on his white shirt. "I'm not living at home all my life... and I was thinking about going down to the school for a little while. So I guess I am going to town with you."

He grabbed a dark brown trechcoat and pulled it on. "I'm ready!"

"You look wonderful," she complimented in a sisterly tone of voice. "Now, go all the way to Momma & Father's house so that I can change," she joked referring to Zac having to take the 10-15 steps seperating the two houses. As he headed out, she raised her voice, "Hey, don't forget my tea, Zac..."

The sun shone through the cloth covered windows in Kymia's bedroom. She blinked her eyes as she awoke. As she sat up in bed, she yawned and stretched. As soon as she got out from under the covers, she felt the cold air in the house hit her body. She hugged her arms to herself closely as she stepped on the cold wood floor. Why did she forget to build a fire in the fireplace last night? After she pulled on her robe, she bent over and started piling logs in the fireplace. The house warmed quickly.

When she was done bathing, she scrambled some eggs for breakfast. The windows about the house were covered in thin pieces of cloth to keep the critters out at night and they only allowed enough light in to see but not very well. Coffee permeated the air from a tin coffeepot. Kymia poured a cup and sat down at the table with her breakfast of scrambled eggs and bacon.

Last night was a blur to her now. The events were remarkable. If she remembered right she had saved a life, almost had her's taken but was saved by a gentleman. She met plenty of new people and it seemed as if they were all kin. She remembered the girl's name was Avera, and her brother was Tim. The man that saved her was Zac and his buddy was Kaiteki. What a night!

Kymia had about six hours before she had to go in to work until then she would go to the store and pick up what she needed. Maybe while she is out there she'll run into someone she knows. Kymia washed up her dishes and cleaned her teeth as best she could. She walked out the house locking the door behind her. She pulled on a long blue woolen coat and grabed her wicker basket. Today would be a good day.

Zac left the house, closing the door behind him and carried the cup of tea across the yard to Avera's house. He knocked on the door as he reached it. "Hey! You're taking to long!" he said, even though it had been about five minutes. His voice was in a joking way, meaning nothing by what he said.

He wiggled the door knob playfully. "Can I come in and give you this tea already?"

Kaiteki had been up for hardly an hour before he left the house and headed towards... nowhere really. He had no plans for today, and he didn't feel like spending it cooped up at home with his father. He felt like he needed to find a house of his own, but he felt guilty about leaving his father by himself.

He walked down the road, childishly kicking rocks and other things.

Tristen groaned as he woke up; his head throbbed. He rubbed the sleep from his eyes and slowly sat up. He almost laid back down, rolled over, and went back to sleep, but he knew that wouldn’t be a good idea. An instructor at the fighting school had asked to see him today. He didn’t know why. He’d already graduated, but he figured he would climb out of his bed anyways.

He stumbled over to a wash stand and rinsed his face off. His headache seemed to ease a bit. He went over to his closet and searched for something to wear. He ended up choosing a loose fitting green shirt and black pants which he unceremoniously stuffed into his black boots.

He walked out his front door and into the bright sunlight. He had to shield his eyes. What does this chick want? he thought. (The instructor happened to be a well know woman fighter). He hadn’t seen her much since he graduated. He chuckled to himself, maybe she wanted to go out with him. She wasn’t exactly his type, a little too serious, but she was good looking enough; it might make up for the rest. He shook his head. That was unlikely though. She would probably rather slap him than go out with him. He hoped he would a least run into somebody interesting today. If he didn’t, his day very well could end up boring one.

OOC: My comp is bootleg, so here's the short version b/c I'm tired of fighting it...
Avera puts on her boots. She saddles & mounts Buck - he was happy to see her. She takes long sip of her tea. She offers for Zac to ride with her. Buck can be tied outside the J'ra Stable, but only him & 2-3 other horses are allowed to be b/c of customers.

Zac wondered away from his sister as soon as they reached the stables. He went around looking for signs that said "For Sale" and vacancies. All he wanted was something small enough for him, something like Kymia's cottage...

Zac smiled. Maybe he would go see if there was anything available on her side of town.

Avera looped Buck's reins around the hitching post in front of the stable and headed through the front doors of the barn. Grabbing a square of hay, she hauled it back into the sunlight and crossed the short space to where Buck stood. She pulled a small throwing knife from the top of her knee-high boot and cut the strings on the top of the bale.

"Here ya go, boy," she said as she straightened up and patted him on his soft, fuzzy-feeling black nose. For lack of another place to put her things, Avera threw his saddle over the hitching post and sat her pack on the grond underneath. She layed her long brown riding cloak over the saddle, too.

Avera headed through the huge stable doors and entered the first stable on the right... it was raised and had no hay, horse, saddles, brushes, or combs... it was the office. The size of about 3-4 stalls with no walls to seperate them, the office had been built into the satbles in J'ra. 'Keeps our minds on the horses,' the designer/stablemaster had explained to her a long time ago.

"Good Morning!!" Avera practically sang to the other girl in the room. The girl was a couple of inches shorter than Avera, with curly brown hair that fell just pass her shoulders and almost always looked wet. She had been doing a bit of money work, but looked up with a smile like Avera's, her green-blue eyes sparkling. "Hey," she replied. "Looks like someone got enough sleep!"

If you only knew... Avera thought. But instead, she replied, "Just glad to be here... I'll see you later." With that, she headed back into the stable's big open hall to see what needed to be done.

OCC: Sorry, you guys, about the house discription. My mistake. I changed it. Just keep telling me when I mess up until I get the hang of things.

Kymia wrapped her coat tighter around her for the wind had a fierce bit. The J'ra people were already up and moving around for the day. Kymia made her way to the town square market. Inside, it was warmer and the shelves were stocked aplenty. They had everything from sewing notions to animal feed in the back. Kymia walked about the store and picked up a few things she needed. She came across some nice light pink fabric. It caught her eye as soon as she had seen it. The fabric was a pink color a little darker than baby pink and it was silky to the touch. She had to have it! She picked out thread and buttons and a contrasting black fabric and lace. She didn't have a clue as to what she would make out of it but it would be beautiful. She paid and left the store.

She walked a few blocks down the road and came upon the stables. She stopped in the road and gazed over at the wooden building. Maybe she should stop and say hi to Avera and possibly buy a well needed horse. If they didn't sell horses here then maybe Avera could tell her where to go to find a good one.
