Lore: Forgotten Enemies

The city closest to the border. It is a city filled with traveling people and inns that hold many of the roughest people in Ighten. It's a good place to find weapons and an even better place to find trouble.

Mizuki giggled more and got to her feet, she wondered slightly if Blade would be ok but remembered Siren was still in the house so she thought he'd be safe. She let Rai take her hand and guide her outside towards the woods. The trobbing in her arm resurfaced and traveled back up to her heart. She winced and stopped walking.

Something was wrong... she could feel it but it wasn't her her heart pounded and ached for...

Rai stopped and looked at Mizuki, holding her hands up to touch both of Mizuki's arms. "Something is wrong... Tell me. Please?" she asked, her bright eyes shinning the night.

"I can help," she said, smiling.

Mizuki struggled around the pain. "My heart...aches... but it's odd. It's... not like... it's out to hurt me....but...more like...warning...me..." she collected her thoughts for a moment. Images of Soran and their time together on the floor in the apartment kept coming back, along with the fear of some kind of danger.

Her eyes blinked with a realization...

... Her heart was warning her of Soran's safety...

"I think Soran might be in trouble." she said with an edge to her voice. Now that she finally had acknowledged it, the pain went away.

"We don't know where he is... so we can't help..." Rai sad sadly. "But, Soran is Soran." Rai grinned. "And Soran never loses."

That was Rai's true belief. Since they had yet to really lose a battle she beleive that it meant they were invencible.

Soran ran a circuitous route for some time to ascertain that no bandits were trailing him before finally making his way back to Jhaptal, who had been undisturbed while Soran was gone. The rogue pulled off his shirt and poured water over the wound in his shoulder, then used his shirt to apply pressure to it. The cut was nothing life-threatening, but that didn't stop it from aching like hell. He maintained the pressure until the urgency of the situation took precedence and made him wrap a clumsy bandage around it.

Pulling his shirt back on, Soran went through Jhaptal's pack and took everything absolutely necessary to get back to Hepian - water and medical supplies. Of course, the katana as well. He turned to Jhaptal and knelt down, lifting the man up over his good shoulder as gently as was possible. There were few worse ways to transport a sick man, but the situation didn't give them a lot of options.

Soran tried jogging, but the ache in his shoulder became dizzying and forced him back to a walk. Pressing his pace to its limit, he carried Jhaptal another mile before he was forced to stop and rest. He could feel warmth trailing down his back that warned him the bandage he'd applied wasn't doing much. Taking deep breaths, he clenched his hand over the wound for several more minutes before lifting Jhaptal and continuing on, his legs feeling heavier and heavier as he walked on toward hepian. He felt his thoughts slipping hopefully toward the image of returning to that house, and the people who would be in it. THe thought brought him confidence as he kept moving, reluctantly accepting the agonizing feeling that he found unfamiliar, but which others would probably recognize as homesickness.

It was somewhere after 3 am when he finally saw the walls of Hepian up ahead.

Rai didn't want to sleep that night. She told herself that she would stay awake until Soran got home. But, sadly it didn't last long. She was sleeping with her blanket around her in a large old over stuffed chair by the fire, which was dead and the only thing left was orange coals that had lost there flame.

While Soran carried him, the feverish Jhaptal faded in and out of consciousness. However, the wound fever was getting to him and even when he did wake up, he barely registered the fact that he was being carried. Usually he lapped right back into unsconsciousness.

This time was no different. He idly noted that he was still being carried, and he barely noted that it was by Soran. Had he registered anyone possibly hostile he probably wouldn't have had the strength to struggle anyway.

Mizuki was sitting up in bed, Blade sleeping next to her peacefully. Her beautiful face was screwed up in a frown, and a look of undying worry. Soran was not home. When did he say he was going to get back anyway? She couldn't remember. But now that the ache was gone, in it's place was the feeling of worry that wouldn't go away. It wouldn't let her sleep.

She hugged her legs to her chest and thought. What if Soran went back to the inn thinking they were still there? They had taken all their belongings with them when they moved into the house... did Soran know that?

With the worry pulling at her mind, she got out of bed and wasted no time in slipping on her boots. Still in her night dress, she quietly slipped outside, not forgetting her arrows, and exited th house. She walked the dark streets looking for any sign of Soran.

The streets were barren of life as Soran finally entered the city, noticed only by the guards at the gates, who looked at him strangely. A sharp glance from the rogue sent their gazes stiffly back toward the forest as he walked with strained movements down the road that led to their home. He hoped Mizuki and the others had managed to find it, because he wasn't entirely sure he could walk the extra half mile to the inn if they weren't there.

He set his expression resolutely and continued toward the house, his labored breath the only sound in the empty streets. Nearly there, his legs failed him for a moment. He shifted quickly sideways and leaned against the wall of a building for support, waiting for the lapse to pass.

Rai yawned, and woke up quickly, thinking she had heard someone walk by... or something. She pulled her blanket closer and peired around fearfully into the darkness.

She told herself it was just another rat. She cautiously got out of bed, deciding to go sleep with Mizuki, because she didn't like being alone in a new place. She walked down the hall, boards creeking under her feet. She opened the door to Mizuki's room and looked in.

No one was there... except Blade.

She looked around and went to every room, but no one was there. Her heart began to pound. Where was Mizuki? Where was she? Rai went and picked Blade up carefully.

She didn't want to leave him alone if some monster was in the house and it had gotten Mizuki!

Rai backed out of the room and went into the living room and sat Blade down in her chair she had been sleeping in, wrapping him in her blanket.

She turned to the fire and put more wood in and paper and the coals caught the paper on fire, which then caught the wood on fire.

It was quiet... and the hall way was dark and she couldn't see what was down it. She forced herself not to look down it, encase something creepy was standing there staring at her. It felt like it was there... but what if it wasn't. But, what if it was and she looked and it was there....

Rai ran back to Blade and picked him up, curling up in the chair with him. She heard a creek. Then a groan. Then something scratching against the window. It looked like a gaint hand! Rai closed her eyes as tight as possible.

OOC: btw, Emora... what happened to TOBY!? >_>;;;

In the next few steps, Mizuki realized she had left Blade all alone. Silently cursing herself for acting on impluse without taking account for Blade, she looked around again and turned around to head back to the house. But something caught the corner of her eye, dark figures leaning against the wall.

Quietly, she strung her bow, just in case, and approached the dark figures.

"Hello?" she called out.

Soran narrowed his eyes dangerously as he picked up the sound of a bowstring going taut. "Hello?" a voice called out. Soran was too certain this was an enemy to recognize it as Mizuki's. But it sounded uncertain, so chances were that it could be reasoned with.

"Lower your weapon," he commanded darkly, "This man is injured." He did an excellent job of keeping his exhaustion and breathlessness out of his voice.

Mizuki winced hearing Soran's dark voice commanding her. She lowered her weapon, wondering if Soran even knew it was her.

"Soran?" she said softly and walked over to him slowly, in case he struck out at her.

OOC: I don't know.... let me go ask him.... *runs of to go ask Toby* Meanwhile...

Rai hugged Blade tightly as the sound of scratching from the nails of the gaint thin hand grew louder filled her ears. When she couldn't take it any more she screamed and ran from the room and opened the nearest closet, running in and closing the door.

She sat in the corner, hugging Blade and humming her pirate tune...

OOC: *comes back* He says that he thought he left her in capable hands... but he might need to come back after this... :P

Soran's pupils shrank as he recognized the voice this time and turned toward the figure approaching him. "Mizuki..." he murmured in confusion. "What are you doing out here?"
