"I'll relace them later," Soran said, walking up the stairs with Rai. He found Mizuki's door ajar, so they went there first. Walking in, Soran stopped as he found Red embracing Mizuki. He saw nothing to explain the situation. Not yours. She's not yours. he reminded himself, fighting his shock.
"We're going out for a few hours," he said evenly, turning and leaving the room.

Red sat with Mizuki curled up in his arms cuddling her child. Blade just laid on her, watching with wonder. Red rocked Mizuki, she still sobbing but had calmed down a little. Maybe he could get her to talk.
"What happened Mizu?" he asked her softly, holding her like a fragile doll. Mizuki took a while to answer, Red could hear her sniffles.
"I thought he was dead." She finaly gasped. Her face was tear streaked and her eyes red. "It was just like my dream."
"What dream?" Red urged her on. Maybe she was ill? He needed to know. But Soran came in, and talked about leaving. "Wait! She's not ok!"

Soran was about to knock on Siren's door when Red's voice called back from Mizuki's room. "Wait! She's not ok!"
Soran looked back at Mizuki's room and down at Rai blankly. He turned around and went back into Mizuki's room, walking up to Red. This time he was close enough to notice that Mizuki's face was hidden, sobbing into Red's shirt.
"What's going on?" Soran demanded of Red, moving quickly to kneel across from him. He watched Mizuki in confusion; she had seemed fine a minute ago.

"She heard Blade fall from the bed. He didn't get hurt but she started to wail. She said he was dead but he's not!" Red said, worried, and moved Mizuki slightly So she could see Soran. It didn't do anything. She kept sobbing, but started to talk.
"He looked like he was dead! I could swear he wasn't breathing!" she sobbed, holding her winged child who was clearly alive. She didn't understand, nothing made sense anymore. First, her dream and how real it seemed, and now this. Was she going mad?

Soran frowned and looked back at Mizuki, concern camouflaged in his chilled eyes. He finally looked up at Red again. "Please take care of her. We'll look into it," he made himself say, and stood up. He still wasn't really comfortable with Mizuki curled into his arms, but it seemed like Red was better at dealing with her tears than he. Casting a last look back at Mizuki, he gestured to Rai and left the room.

"Now we're looking for both," Soran said. Before I leave, he was thinking. He knocked on Siren's door and said "We're going out. Mizuki's in her room," through the door. He heard Siren acknowledge him from inside, and then he and Rai left the building.
He led the way down the street toward a cavern that would have been familiar to Mizuki; it was the place where his old vampiric acquaintance lived.

"This is where we find someone to help us find the bad thing," Soran said, using Rai's terminology. They walked in and the busy taproom fell silent. Not only did Soran's appearance confirm the rumor circulating that he was back, but a young girl was holding his hand. Soran ignored them and went to the bar, where the barkeep stared at him blankly.
"Nightblade? People were wondering if you were dead," he said.
"Well, you can see I'm not," the rogue returned blandly. "Is the old man upstairs?"
The barkeep nodded quickly and gestured for him to go up. Soran nodded appreciatively.
"Nightblade? Who's the kid?" the barkeep couldn't help asking quietly.
Soran eyed the barkeep. "My daughter," he said evenly, turning to go up the stairs.
The small noise that had resumed in the bar once again fell utterly silent except for someone on the right side of the room, who had choked on something.
Soran paid them no attention, holding Rai's hand securely as he led her up the stairs.

Rai looked around at the people in the room, feeling a bit uncomfortable and standing closer to the Soran. She held his hand in one hand and his pants leg in the other, wondering if this was a bad place or a good place.
She looked around and wondered why everyone got quiet when they heard she was Soran's daughter. She looked up at Soran and then back around. She walked with him up the stares.

Soran knocked firmly on a door at the end of the hall. No answer came. "Thornock! Open up," Soran ordered, knocking again. A minute later, the door opened and Dralan Thornock looked out at him groggily, half asleep.
"Nightblade? What do you want?" he said crankily, stepping aside to let them in. As always the inside of the room was completely dark. Dralan closed the door behind them after they entered, fumbling through a drawer for a stubby candle, which he set on the table and lit. The dim candlelight revealed the usual collection of beakers and experiments lining every horizontal surface in the room. It was then he finally noticed the young girl with him.
"So it's true that you have companions you permit near you now?" he smirked in his scratchy old voice, sitting down comfortably in a chair.
Soran narrowed his eyes. "I have something to ask you about," he said.
"Hmph! Untalkative as always, I see," the man creaked, looking at Rai. He had friendly eyes, but a very haggard, pale appearance. "This fellow's got less social skills than my pet rock," he quipped, immediately breaking out into long, wheezing laughter at his own joke.
