Artisuren stilled. It felt as though a weighted blanket had settled onto him, and with it, his own body's exhaustion. He hadn't experienced it since coming to this world, but the need for sleep pressed in on him. His so-called master seemed to have lost interest in him for now. Did that mean it was safe enough to sleep with his warm presence behind him? He fell still and within a few minutes, his breath evened out in sleep.

Tenara woke with the heaviness and exhaustion befitting someone who had been on a very long and very heavy bender. No headache, thankfully. Her mind felt clear, if not foggy. Her eyes fluttered open, and she took in the view of Havi's gray skin. They were lying on their sides. One of her legs was partially edged beneath his hips and the other was draped over him and somehow they were still... together.

Heat warmed her cheeks and she nuzzled against him, feeling safe and warm. The edges of yesterday began to weave through the fog of sleep, and she pushed them back a little longer. She wanted to enjoy this. Enjoy waking up next to Havi.

Tenara gently pushed Havi’s shoulder and managed to send him over onto his back. She rolled with him, coming to rest atop his waist. Everything shifted and came back together and a surprised yelp fluttered out of her as the length inside her slammed home at the back of her core. She exhaled a ragged breath, wondering if he was still at attention or if he was just… long. Blissfully, sinfully long.

She perched on him, watching the sharp lines of his sleepy face. She pressed her hands to his chest and admired the differences in their skin color and size. It wasn’t meant to be, she knew. But she wanted it to be. She wanted it to be forever.

Tenara moved over him, wanting to continue what her body and mind had been too tired to fully enjoy before. Could she wake him like this? Would he dislike it? She thought about the last time she’d tried to wake him in a more mild way. Would he destroy another mattress? She bit her bottom lip a second longer, weighing the consequences, and decided she could afford another new mattress.

——

Laurius woke as most men did in the morning, only he’d fallen asleep in nothing but a towel and his body betrayed him to the morning light. He felt sluggish and lazy as the sun bathed him in warmth. His hand stretched out, brushing that part of him standing at attention for half a second before he grabbed the towel and tugged it back over. His gaze drifted to Artisuren.

Artisuren. So alien. So angry. So beautifully irritated.

“Wake,” he said to the being, rolling over onto his side. He traced a finger along his gold horn. “We’ve got a big day ahead of us.”

Havi was completely lost to the world, but he was having the most incredible dream. Tenara's heat wrapped around him, and her hips slid across his, connecting them. No, they were still connected. She'd kept him within her all night.

He hardened so rapidly that it felt like a kind of climax. "Ah!". Havi's midnight voice released a shaky moan, and he arched against the sheets. He blinked, and gold eyes caught sight of the very real woman sitting on top of him. He pulsed within her, and a worshipful curse fell from his lips. He was suddenly recalling all the sweet things she'd said yesterday, and it was too much to handle. "Hold still, please," he breathed, eyes rolling back as he pulsed again. "Fuck, I might come."

__________

Artisuren slept like the dead, still and serene until the command stroked him awake like a hungry lover.

*Wake.*

A finger grazed his horn while the word caressed his soul. His breath quickened, and he opened green eyes to the sight of Laurius studying him. He clenched his throat to growl at him, but it emerged a moan instead. Horrified, he cleared his throat and scrambled upright in a tangle of sheets. "How long have you been doing that?" He snarled, bunching the fabric around his waist to mask his reaction.

Tenara stilled, shivering at the sound of his voice, the look in his eyes. “Not yet,” she purred at him, tracing a finger up his abdomen, the center of his chest, his neck, his chin, and lips. Her thumb brushed his bottom lip. “I want more of you.”

She smiled and reached out, taking each large hand in turn and placing them on her body. One at the bend of her hip, the other over a breast. Why did it thrill her so to realize how small she was in comparison to him? Shouldn’t it scare her?

“Net yet,” she reminded him or commanded him, she wasn’t sure. She shifted again, rolling her hips, sucking in a pleased breath as he hit just right.

Laurius smiled, tracing a lazy finger across the warmth where Artisuren had been, just like he’d traced along the horn.

“Not long,” he said. “You should see how deeply you blush. It’s a lovely color. Like a stormy sky.” There was heat in Laurius’s own cheeks. “Come back to bed. Relax. Just because we have a big day doesn’t meant we have to hurry.”

Havi sucked in a breath and held it, corralling as much composure as he could muster without warning. His hands kneaded at her skin where she'd placed them, and he rose up to draw her nipple into his mouth. The amount of time a Yurivis permitted connection with her mate was a mark of extreme pride. It was a measure of her favor and desire. Havi was new to even having a Yurivis, never mind waking up inside her. It was a fantasy most Ivie would kill, beg, and steal to experience.

He was still recovering from the shock, and she was already moving above him, wanting him again. He'd never felt so completely overindulged in his desires, and his control was thin at best. "Ah, Tenara," he winced.

________

Artisuren stared at Laurius, and hated that he could feel himself blushing even harder. He was unaccustomed to such compliments. There was no way he truly meant them. "First you told me to wake, and now to lie in bed. Pick what you want," he snapped, but he did plop himself stubbornly to sit at the edge of the mattress. "Why do 'we' have a big day?"

Tenara moaned softly, curling her arms around Havi’s head and cradling him to her. One of her hands curled along his horn, holding fast. “Havi,” she murmured against the top of his head. She planted a kiss there before she used his horn to the his head back and planted another on his lips. Tenara’s free hand slipped between them, to the bud of flesh between her legs, fingers sweeping the skin feverishly. Her pace quickened over him, the role of her hips rhythmic, and she held him so that he could see her face, see her move, see her enjoying him. “Not yet,” she moaned and then she shattered, head arching back as she quaked and bucked and called his name. Then, with a choked cry, she sang, “N-now. Now.”

Laurius sighed. “Artisuren, there is a difference between being awake and being up.” He stretched along the bed. “I think I must make a formal request for Tenara’s company to Ighten. I doubt her family will let her go so easily after she only returned. We leave tomorrow. I would like her on our ship so we can better understand how to use the dagger and what, exactly, it means for you to be as you are.”

He glanced at the phage. “How are you feeling today?” Laurius bit back the urge to ask specifically about his body. He had been… well not gentle but not entirely unkind. The memory buzzed up in his mind, and the weight between his legs felt fuller. He looked at Artisuren’s mouth and wondered what it would feel like to kiss him and not be bitten.

His own lips felt bruised. He touched them absentmindedly.

Havi's eyes went glassy when she grabbed his horn. All he wanted to think about or know was his Yurivis's will. The instinct to dissolve all sense of himself and yield completely to his nature was overwhelming. No. He wasn't ready. She might not even like it, either. Control would be wiser.

Easier said than done... He could feel her body drawing up into climax, and the mere idea of her receiving pleasure from him made him so sensitive that even the slightest of movements was dangerous.

"Now!" she cried out to him.

Oh, gods... He groaned and pressed deep into her, and released everything he had to offer. He wrapped his arms around her petite form and pulled her tightly against him until he was fully spent. He finally loosened slightly so she could breathe. "Tenara..." With long fingers, he stroked the sides of her face and neck. He kissed her eyebrows, kissed her forehead, kissed her hair where her horns would be. If he could, he wanted to go on fawning over her all day.

_______

Artisuren tilted his head curiously at the man. He didn't hate that Laurius seemed so interested in the dagger, or that he'd made learning about him the focus of his entire day. The thought made him cough. It must be because he was bond broken. That was why he was this desperate for attention. He made a mental note to be careful not to let his new condition impair his judgment.

"How are you feeling today?"

How was he feeling? What did he want to know? He studied Laurius. There was an odd expression on the man's face, and something strained seemed to underlie his words. He looked over the man for clues, and for the first time, noticed the fullness between his legs. Artisuren startled. He was aroused?

The Ivis regarded him warily, still clutching the blankets in front of his waist. He definitely couldn't tell him that the symptoms from yesterday were building up again. Plus, he might not have to. He'd already gotten one off-handed command this morning. If he was strategic in his interactions, he could keep the symptoms under control without bringing it to Laurius's attention or provoking another... interaction like yesterday's. "I feel fine. No problems," he said firmly.

Tenara melted into Havi, her breath panting across his skin. She pressed her forehead against him, closing her eyes and relishing the euphoria spreading heavy through her limbs.

“Good morning,” she murmured to him, grinning. “Did you sleep well?”

“No problems…” Laurius repeated, sighing. “Well, that’s good to hear. Your dagger felt a little hot last night.”

He rose out of bed, taking the towel and draping it over a chair. He crossed the room, bare to the air, and began digging through his wardrobe for an appropriate outfit for greeting Tenara’s family or at the least whoever would be able to give permission for her to go with him.

Havi nodded. "Very well," he admitted. "You must have used your abilities heavily." He stroked his fingertips through her hair. "I will take better care of this body, so it is not so difficult to maintain," he promised. "If you intend to maintain his physical form, I will tell Artisuren the same."

_______

"Well, as you said, it is damaged," he muttered. Artisuren rubbed at one of his pointed ears to avoid staring at Laurius. He'd never found it hard to look away from a male's body before. It was probably only natural curiosity after interacting with him in such a strange way yesterday. But today, the man seemed different. No, even since last night... he'd shown signs of being dispirited... sighing, and seeming distracted.

He shook his head. It wasn't his job to attend to him. Was it? Laurius hadn't said as much, anyway. Not that he'd do it. Artisuren scratched at his ear, irritated. "What about you?" he demanded. "Something's wrong with you."

Tenara pressed a kiss to Havi’s cheek. “I don’t know if I would make him whole again…” She felt awful saying it. He couldn’t help he’d been taken and driven into a weapon. “Is that wrong of me?” She looked at him, blushing. “I thought I would do for him what I did for you, but it turns out I couldn’t and really… I don’t know if I wanted to. It’s different with you. I…” She swallowed hard. “I guess I really don’t have much choice. If we want Laurius’s help, I’ll likely have to make Artisuren whole again…”

She thought back to the room, and how sad Artisuren seemed. What would she do if she found out Laurius was truly mistreating him?

—-

Laurius cocked his head as he admired a tunic. “Me?” he asked, hesitating. He didn’t like lying or playing games. Time was finite. There was no room for it. “I suppose the simplest answer is, I’m confused. Torn. I thought our time yesterday was… fun, even if purposeful. I don’t think of myself as someone who takes from another. I earn. I buy. I make what I don’t have.” He turned. “Was it so unpleasant? Did I take from you?”

Havi shook his head gently. "It is not wrong. You were kind to give him an opportunity. Perhaps Laurius will learn to use his own strength to maintain Artisuren's form, if he chooses. If your health is at risk, I'd honestly rather you not maintain either of us." He stroked her cheek. "I can serve you, even as a sword, and be complete."

______

Artisuren went stiff and still as Laurius explained what was actually causing his behavior. He'd imagined some form of physical ailment, or maybe disappointment in Artisuren's company. Certainly not...

"I don't... uh. You are behaving this way because you regret bedding me? Because you did not...pay?" He flushed, having no idea what he was even asking. "If so, as you said, you already own the dagger, so you don't need...uh..."

Tenara appraised Havitharon’s face. “Serve me…” she whispered, stroking fingers down his gray cheek as he had done to her. “Would you not… miss me? Miss this? If you were nothing but a sword?”

——

“Pay? I regret bedding you because you didn’t want me to. Not really. You said one thing and it meant another.” Laurius replied, eyes darkening. “And I feel like a fool and a criminal and I am neither.”

Havitharon closed his eyes and leaned into her hand as she touched his cheek. Nothing but a sword. "I am honored by your concern for my feelings," he said. "You are correct... after knowing you this way, there is no way I could avoid feeling loss. But sword or not, I would still have more than I could have dreamed before meeting you. I only meant that I don't wish to live this way at your expense." He sought her eyes, assuring. "I did not intend to sadden you."

_______

Artisuren's stomach dropped like lead. What was that look on his face for? Was that dismal reaction because of him? Why did Laurius's mood bother him so much? This man destroyed his life, and made him feel those perverted things... If he couldn't kill Laurius, he ought to at least enjoy his payback wherever he could get it.

A knock on the door startled him to his feet.

"Housekeeping," came an impatient voice from the other side.

Tenara nodded. “I understand,” she said. Her father’s would likely ask the same of her mother if feeding or healing one of them would hurt her. “I will take caution, and not put myself under any undue strain. Cross my heart.” She smiled at him and traced an x over her left breast.

“We should get cleaned up and dressed. I’m surprised someone hasn’t kicked down the door to demand why we disappeared for an entire afternoon and missed dinner.” By someone, she meant her vampiric father.

——-

Laurius stared at Artisuren, not phased by the harsh knock at the door. “A moment,” he said, and hurriedly pulled his trousers on, then the tunic, socks, and boots. He scooped up the warm dagger and tucked it into the sheath beneath his shirt. “Care for some breakfast, Arti?”

He dug into a pouch at his waist and passed the woman two gold coins. “Forgive the mess in the bathroom. I’ll also need fresh towels.”

He then swept his hand to the door, beckoning Artisuren into the hall.

Sure enough, when Havi and Tenara made it to the dining room for breakfast, Vladimir was sitting at his place with a plate of untouched food. He seemed to be doing his best not to launch straight into his daughter the moment she entered the room. Tenele had probably given him a stern lecture about his daughter's privacy. Still, he looked ready to burst by the time his daughter was seated across from him.

"Good morning, Vladimir," Havi offered cautiously.

The vampire appeared somewhat mollified by the greeting, and turned his gaze pointedly to his daughter. Apparently his patience ended there, because he burst out, somewhat accusingly, "My guards tell me you've accepted a suitor."

_________

Artisuren flushed with embarrassment as Laurius mentioned the 'mess in the bathroom'. He avoided the female's eyes and fled the room to join Laurius's side in the hall. He was remembering the night before, the sight of his seed wasted across the wood floor. Such a selfish thing would not be forgiven in the harem. Was that woman there to inspect their quarters? She was going to know. "Oh god," he murmured, "Oh god."
