Vlad turned his attention away from Sinead and Maxwell as he sensed his protege in the room. Seeing Talon composed and sane before his nephew was a reward that made all the frustrating months of training they'd just finished worth it. Talon was a long way from perfect, and he was still technically New, but he could look upon his sister's child with awe and not hunger, and that was worth any amount of painful and frustrating training.
That said, he knew the man still had limits. He shook his head when the nurse turned to him for approval to hand the child to Talon. "Soon, my Blood," he said, touching his hand to Talon's shoulder while the midwife allowed the child to nurse.
The child truly did look small, but unlike most premature babies, she seemed perfectly healthy. Just a bit miniature. "She is named Tenara."

"Tenara," Talon mused with a smile. "A girl. I guess you get your girl, I'm sure Atul won't disappointed." He scratched the back of his head. "Man, that's going to be one spoiled girl."
His eyes then flickered around the room. "He didn't make it back in time for the birth?" And then his gaze fell on Sinead and he froze. There parting hadn't been a good one, and it surprised him to see her there. Then, again, maybe it shouldn't have. "My Queen," he said tightly, bowing his head to her.

Sinead had been having a low but heated argument with Maxwell. Vlad had missed the conversation, but when he realized Talon was addressing her and looked that way, Maxwell was gone.
Sinead's blue eyes darted to Talon's, then Vlad's then Talon's again. Thought it seemed many streams of thought were vying for attention, she settled on Talon first. "Sir Raider," she addressed the vampire distrustfully. "You have been well?" The question sounded empty and confused. What was one to ask of a vampire that had left her court.

Talon was surprised by hearing his title on her lips. "I have had bumps, large ones, but I am better. I live... more or less," he admitted, stung that he didn't find a more warm greeting from her after so much time passed. Though, he had always assumed Tenele to be Sinead's favorite.
He went to his sister and brushed her hair gently from her face. She looked pale, her skin was clammy, and judging by the blood in the towels collected in the basket near the bed and in her clothes, it had gone about as well as they'd been warned.
But, he could hear her heart. He could hear it strengthen with every passing second. "Well," he sighed, slipping his hands into his pockets. "Nice seeing you my Queen. Don't want to make this overly awkward so I'll head back to my cave down the hall." He stopped next to Vlad and grinned at him. "Congratulations." He tipped his head to Sinead and headed for the door.
About that time a boy servant slid into the room, huffing. "The soldier... He's awake!"

Vlad's eyes sharpened like swords. "Talon," he called the man back. He placed a hand on his shoulder and leaned close to his ear. "Go with this boy. There is trouble with Atul. The soldier saw what happened." Ruby met ruby as he raised his gaze to the silver-haired man. "Learn everything," he ordered.
