Tenele grabbed it from the table and held it out for him. She watched him for a moment with a worried expression, hoping he would be alright. "You should rest after you drink this, okay?" Stands of silver fell before her beautiful face, which still had dried blood caked onto it as well as in her hair, though the wound was gone.

Vlad reached out to take the blood from her. "How could I rest when that amusing kid is about to come back?" he said, mischief battling with discomfort in his voice. He looked up at her face and his pupils visibly contracted to focus on her. His expression grew more serious, like he wasn't sure if he should be concerned or not. "Should you be resting?" he asked, because he genuinely didn't remember whether Sinead had taken care of her or not, nor to what extent.

He could hear the young maid's footsteps running back up the stairwell. She was fast, he had to give her that much. Though he wasn't sure it would persuade him to keep from tormenting her when she was back in the room.

Tenele looked at him, brushing hair behind her ear. "I'm fine," she told him gently and then smiled. "Like always. Do you really think that scum bag could take me down? Me?!" She was trying to cheer him up, though she didn't think it would work. She rose to her feet as the girl came into the room and took the broom from her.

"Thank you," she told the young girl. "I'll clean this mess up, don't you worry about it."

The young maid took on a look of horror as Tenele asked for the broom. "I couldn't possibly, Maiden, I...you...Please let me clean it!" she blurted out, throwing her upper body down over the broom in a frazzled bow.

Vlad watched the scene, sipping at the blood bag with a hollowed reed as a straw. The maid hadn't noticed him awake, and he found the battle over the broom mildly entertaining.

Tenele looked at the young girl for a moment. "If you insist." She hadn't the energy to argue with the young girl. Instead she turned to walk back to the bed and noticed Vlad watching them. "Don't you look entertained."

She crawled on to the bed, crawling to sit so close to him, her back leaning against the headboard.

The maid was smiling over Tenele's entrusting the broom to her when the maiden's words drew her eyes in confusion across the room. She paled as she saw Vlad propped up slightly against the headboard, watching her.

Vlad's expression grew into a stiff smile at her reaction. "Thanks for the drink," he said darkly, although his voice frankly didn't hold much depth, and didn't get the reaction he'd hoped for.

The girl stood a little straighter and blinked at him. "Does it hurt?" she said very cautiously.

Vlad's grin grew deeper, but it looked more like a substitute for a grimace. "Please tell me I don't look bad enough that a chambermaid is fussing over me," he turned and muttered to Tenele.

The maid blinked curiously, unable to hear him.

Tenele laughed softly, grinning broadly at him. She looked him over twice before giving a nod. "Yes, you look that bad," she told him. "Though, I've seen you look far worse." She patted his leg gently. "Don't worry, you'll look good as new in a few days."

Vlad rolled his eyes and sagged deeper against the headboard. He took a long pull that drained the rest of the blood, making sure to get in a long slurp when the straw hit bottom, and dropped the bag at his side. He managed to shiver in the same movement, though which took away cool points from his act. The maid didn't look particularly horrified. Frustrated, he used his elbow to lower himself gingerly back down into the pillows to lie on his good side.

The maid stared in confusion as Vlad turned away from her, thinking she must have offended him somehow. She glanced at Tenele for support, then got an idea. "You...turned into a dragon before, right?" she said with real admiration. "You saved the whole capitol!"

"Great, now I'm a hero," Vlad groaned, twisting in the bed so his face touched Tenele's thigh where she sat against the headboard.

The maid tilted her head in confusion, thinking that the no life king was quite different from what she'd heard. She gave up, bowed quickly to Tenele and began sweeping quietly.

Tenele grinned and ran her finger tips through his hair as she staired down at him. "Oh, the horror!" she exclaimed, winking at the maid. "The mighty and infamous vampire has become a hero. Who would have thought it... I don't know if I like you as a hero though. I mean, I sure am going to miss all those weird looks people give me and the 'vampire whore' title. Ah, those were the good old days. But, now your a hero. No one will ever.... fear you again." She was joking with him of course. It would be easy for Vlad to impose fear upon people.

"Hero this," Vlad's hand closed around the corner of a loose pillow and socked it in Tenele's face. His smile of satisfaction was diluted by a wince as he cradled the burnt hand he'd used to throw the pillow. Instead he used his telekinesis to follow through, holding the stuffed fabric 'stuck' against her face.

Tenele laughed from behind the pillow, trying to push it away with her hands. Her voice was muffled from behind the fabric. "Okay, okay! Your a feind! A menace, who could ever call you a hero!" she took it all back with a laugh, but Vlad would always be a hero to her. "You pesty vampire."

Vlad grinned smugly and let the pillow fall down into Tenele's lap. He was tired from holding it up with his mind, which was a mellowing concept, but he made an effort not to be overly discouraged about his condition. The danger had passed, and nothing more was likely to come after them in the near future. He glanced up at Tenele and the bite marks that were healing into a small bruise on her neck. The sight made him feel content and accomplished. He possessed everything he'd fought to protect; nothing major had been lost. He was pleased. Was that how a hero thought?

Tenele's warm skin against his face was making him sleepy, as were the fingers running through his hair. His thoughts ran together into daydreams as he half-slept against her.

Tenele smiled down at Vlad. She felt happy to watch him fall a sleep for a change and was glad to be able to take care of him for once. "Go to sleep, my love. You've earned it. Nothing else will happen. Lothos is dead and the city is safe for now. Just rest, please? You have earned it." She bent down and gave him a gentle soft kiss on the lips, which for Vlad would have been a near upside down kiss.

Then her attention returned to the maid, who seemed to be working as well as paying attention to them.

Vlad got snared up in the depth of her eyes as she kissed him, and it made it hard to disagree with her gentle request that he sleep. His vision blurred, and he drew a ragged breath to say "Very well."

The maid had industriously swept the glass down to one quadrant of the room, and she was working on narrowing the pile more and more. She was trying to ignore the fact that the lower inches of the broom's bristles were soaked red, or that she was smearing blood around as much as she was clearing glass. The floor was going to need a strong scrubbing to get the blood out of the wood panels.

Vlad creaked an eye open while her back was turned, and an invisible wind seemed to smear the corner of the maid's pile back out across the room. "You missed a spot," he said with a self-satisfied grin. With his revenge complete, he finally let go of the fight for consciousness and slept. His breathing was still rapid, but at least evened out now. He appeared to finally be warm enough, lying still next to Tenele under all the blankets, a fever sweat dripping off his forehead.

While Vlad had swet Tenele had eat two other meals while the maids worked quickly to get the floor clean. They cleaned up the glass, brick and wood fragments, then hurridly scrubbed up the blood from the floor. It was around 2 in the morning when the work was finally finished and Tenele had lowered herself under the covers next to Vlad, on her side facing him.

She was trying to fall a sleep, but having a hard time doing so. So many questions were floating around in her head. Finally she couldn't contain herself. She slipped from the bed as quietly as possible and left the doorless room. The guards were throwing Lothos's headless body onto a wagon. Apparently they were just now getting around to it. Then again the city was in shambles after the dragon, Lothos had been put last on the list of things to do.

"The body needs to be burned," Tenele said, walking up to the two guards. "I need you to take the body and burn it."

"But, its decapitated... Has no head, m'lady. 'Tis not comin' back," the soldier said.

"I don't care, burn it nevertheless," Tenele glanced down at Lothos's dead body and the way he was just strone across the wagon with his pants wide open from where Vlad had ripped them. His head was sitting next to his knees and she couldn't shake the eerie feeling that he was watching her with his wide open red eyes. Unblinking dead eyes. Though, he was dead already. Which is one of the reasons his body needed to be burned. Because if he was dead already, then losing his head probably didn't matter. Eventually he could reginerate, though she was sure it would take a good while unless he had help.

"And when you have burned the body leave it for the sun to burn," she said before turning to leave. She stopped. "May I have your names?"

"Christophe and Gildale," the tallest said, he must have been Christophe.

With that she left them and within moments was crawling back into bed, sliding her slender form under the covers and coming to lie close next to her wounded lover. She watched him with thoughtful green eyes, wondering how long it would take him to heal.

* * *

Christophe and Gildale were pulling the waggon towards the criminal burrial sight, which was a large pit that bodies were thrown into and then covered with dirt. "Think we should really burn him? Its late and I'm tired of dealing with fire," Christophe said, looking at his friend.

"It is late, and he's dead. His 'ead is not with his body. I say we leave 'im, mate. The lass was over reacting if you ask me. Burn him and then leave him for the sun to burn? How does the sun burn anyone?!" He laughed and his friend soon followed. Gildale grabbed the heavy body by the feet and dragged him off the wagon. With a swift kick the body rolled down into the pit.

Christophe picked head up by the long brown strands of hair and tossed it into the pit. It landed right next to the shoulders. "Besides, we can tell her we did it and no one will ever be the wiser." The two men turned their backs on the pit and moved to leave.
