(LORE) HEALING

The city closest to the border. It is a city filled with traveling people and inns that hold many of the roughest people in Ighten. It's a good place to find weapons and an even better place to find trouble.

Mizuki was only nibbling on the food before her. Rai was enjoying herself with her friends, that was something she was happy with. But this Sid guy... She felt a little unsettled by him, there was something else to him but she couldn't figure out what. She hoped it wasn't anything bad, she didn't have the free moment to use her powers to figure it out.

Watching where Soran spaced out, Mizuki sighed and got up to go to him. She went behind the buffet tables and came up behind him.

"People want food." she told him and poked his arm.

Soran twitched and looked over at her quickly, unintentionally ending up eye to eye with her within an inch of her lips. His breath caught in embarassment and he looked down, coughing awkwardly. "Right," he said, looking up at the next barbecuer, who was gawking. He swallowed, ears darkening, and served the next person. "Thanks," he said, looking at Mizuki more gracefully this time. The line was almost done; soon people could serve themselves. He gave the last few their food, and turned with Mizuki to go with her to their table. He caught Sid out of the corner of his eye. He was half standing, cracking some kind of joke, and the whole table around him was laughing as if they'd known him their whole lives. He never could understand how the man did that.

He finally sat across from Mizuki, thinking that they'd get a moment alone at last to talk about this, but something he wasn't used to happened instead. Maybe it was because of Mizuki that they didn't avoid him as usual, but several parents had gathered around their place, and seemed eager to strike up conversation. They were nervous; that was obvious, but Soran wasn't used to being approached at all. He certainly didn't take it upon himself to extrovert.

"We sure almost had them at the scavenger hunt, eh, my man?" a father next to Soran said outgoingly, clearly uncertain whether to use SOran's first or last name, and settling on neither.

"Sure you did, and I'm a princess in disguise," snorted his shortish wife from near Mizuki, earning a chorus of triumphant teasing from the other women at the table.

"Rai seems like such a caring young girl! I saw her sharing with my daughter earlier," another woman said politely, looking toward both she and Soran.

Soran looked at Mizuki as if begging for help, not used to this kind of attention. He remembered Rai telling him to smile more, even if he didn't feel like it. "Thank you," he managed, offering a weak smile. But the other parents seemed pleased with it.

"He's a surprisingly shy one, isn't he, my dear?" an older person who was probably someone's grandmother nudged Mizuki. "And you seem like such a nice young lady!"

Mizuki blushed at all their comments.

"Y-yes," she managed. She laughed nervously and unknowingly started a conversation with the old woman.

"A beautiful girl like you should take care of yourself more," said the old woman plucking a leaf from Mizuki's hair. "I have a shop down the road, a Beauty shoppe. Come by one, I'll give you some tips and advice." She winked and gestured to Soran causing Mizuki to blush. The woman meant enticing Soran! "A strapping young man like him must have a wild side," she whispered in Mizuki's ear and Mizuki actually laughed.

One of the fathers dared to ask what everyone else was dying to know, "So, how'd you meet?" It was on everyone's minds and the small group of parents looked at them both expectantly. How on earth did they meet and Mizuki managed to get Soran to be so... normal almost?

Soran mentally flailed under the question, trying to recall how they'd actually met. "Well, there was a bar fight." He searched for words while the others' expressions grew more and more suspicious. He shook his head, and unconsciously dug the hole deeper. "Actually, no, it was in the alley."

Just when it seemed the conversation was beyond hope, he attempted a third explanation. "Then she somehow forced me to see a doctor," he said, warmth and irritation both coming into his voice at the memory. That saved him. The women looked touched and the men looked impressed. A small murmur of "awws" swept around the table.

Soran glanced over at Rai and drew strength from the reminder that he had a reason for being here. He relaxed just a little.

Mizuki smiled nervously. That almost looked bad. She sat down at their table, bring Soran down with her on the chair next to her. The other parents were eagar now to start up a conversation. This couple was the most mysterious and talked about one in town. They wanted to know everything they could!

Some of the mother's closest to Mizuki asked her about how Soran proposed. Feeling as if she was backed into a corner, Mizuki lied the best way she could while also trying to stick to reality.

"Where's your ring?" a red-haired mother asked. Uh oh, Mizuki didn't have a ring.

"Ummm... I, uh, lost....it..."

"Oh no!!" the mothers wailed in unsion. "That's horrible!!"

"how?!"

"Ummm," Yes, how Mizuki? Her mind taunted to herself. She hated lying like this... "I was swimming, teaching Rai to swim! and it slipped off my finger and went away with the current!"

"A bit careless..." one murmmured.

"You should get a new one!" said another.

"Yeah, Soran buy your wife a new ring!" The woman smiled at Soran. Mizuki blinked and paled, her heart pounded, what was Soran going to say to that? She suddenly wished wedding rings weren't that important. 'Stupid rings!!' she cursed in her mind.

Steel grabbed Rai's hand. "Hey! No! Let go! I don't want to go to the dragon lair!" She said as Steel snatched her up. All the boys decided to play a game. They would hurd the girls up and take them ot the dragon. Rai was the first one that was going to get eaten by the dragon... Which was a fat puggy little kid called, Smily.

Smily laughed at her because she tripped and fell, and then all the girls were screaming for the little boys to let them go because they didn't wnat to be eaten by a dragon either.

Soran was somewhat surprised by the whole ring discussion. He'd never thought about marriage before. Never. Now he wasn't sure how to deal with their misunderstanding. "We aren't married," he said blankly, apparently oblivious to Mizuki's struggle to cover it up. "But we are...in love," he said very awkwardly. Why was this so difficult to say? THEN it him him what Mizuki had been trying to do. Crap. He looked at her quickly.

"You asked for it!" Rai said and kicked the puggy little boy in his fat gut. He fell over like a ball and bounced and rolled down the hill.

The little girls cheered and all of them started kicking and punching the little boys to get them to fall over and bounce like the fat dragon.

"Hahah!" the girls laughed, but suddenly, found themselves surrounded by the dragons... Who where mad and breathing fire.

"Oh no!" One little girl said.

"Its okay," Rai said. "I've delt with a situation like this THOUSANDS of times..."

"What do we do?" another little girl asked.

Rai ran and tackled a dragon. "Run!!!!!"

The little girls all took off through the opening, screaming and running, a few got caught by the nasty dragons in the proccess.

"Geh..." Mizuki's words got caught in her throat. The parents stared at them not understanding for a moment until one man started laughing.

"I get it," the man said through his laughter. "Still a bit new." He turned to his wife and said, "I was still a bit embarrassed to admit my days were done with being a free man." but he looked at his wife lovingly. Because of what he said, everyone nodded and smiled, feeling like now they understood why Soran messed up his words. Mizuki breathed a breath of relief and kicked Soran gently but firmly under the table.

"I don't wanna be eaten!" A little girl with blonde curls yelled while running from the dragons. She ran next to Rai with a frightful look in her blue eyes.

Soran stiffened at Mizuki's kick without a sound, still not sure this situation was panning out well. Then his ears picked up the conversation of the kids as they began running past, screaming. "Rai," he called out to his daughter in the group in a voice so exactly fitting a stern father that it turned heads.

"I didn't do anything!" Rai said. She really hadn't, it was all the boys fault. "They are trying to eat us! Help!!!"

Soran was busy with people... talking... So she ran and grabbed Sid's hand and pulled on his hand. "We have a bigger dragon to prtoect us!!"

The boys stopped immediatly.

Sid smirked mischievously at the boys, then ran toward them and swooped two up under his arms. "Get him!" screamed the others, and leapt onto Sid till he was barely visible through all the cackling children.

"I'll get you all!" Sid smirked and held his arms out menacingly, stomping slowly after the other boys while the others clung to him. They laughed hysterically and ran away from him. Sid pretended to fall over and they piled on top of him victoriously, forgetting the girls in light of their new playmate.

Soran sighed silently and turned like an afterthough to the boy and girl who were just behind him, the girl about to cry. He just raised an eyebrow at the boy and he ran off in a panic. The rogue frowned and rubbed at his forehead like he was coming down with a migraine. He and Sid had very different ways with children.

"Mr. Nightblade....Soran...it's okay, they're only playing," said another man carefully from next to him, seeming to pick up on the rogue's discomfort.

Soran started to shake his head. He didn't understand playing; it looked more like some form of bullying, or was he just too sensitive about that? Not all kids were him. How could they tell whether they were really fighting or just playing? To Soran, war was war; it was never a game. He remembered how Rai had taught him to snowball fight, and struggled to see this in that perspective. "You must be right," he answered the man, settling down again.

Mizuki watched the kids with a smirk on her face. She remembered how she and boys back home used to play, it reminded her of her childhood. "Go get him Rai!" she called out, encouraging her daughter to rough house. One of the mothers quirked a brow at her but Mizuki ignored it. To her, little girls could fight too.
