(Lore) Recovering

The shores of Ighten are beautiful beaches with white sand, palm trees, shacks and houses with people that live along it. It's also an easy way for Arken people to enter Ighten, since it is more or less unguarded. Sometimes wrecked ships wash ashore.

Kratos emerged in front of Telanis, not registering that something was wrong by the unicorns facial features. "Are you guys alright? Something very strange is upon this boat..." he said warningly. Telanis clumsily fell against him and Kratos supported him back on his feet. "Still don't have your sea legs?"

Laya laid back into the pillow and closed her eyes tightly as she tried to block out the pain. "Why couldn't the Gods have blessed me with this gift of death a month ago. Why now... Why when I have found peace." She groaned. She hurt so much, but she wouldn't blame Telanis. He was only trying to help.

Heh...

Adonis half resented Telanis leaving him alone with this human. He sat watching her blandly. When she spoke of her misery, he almost wanted to pity her, but the paranoid suspicion that she was manipulating his good will held him back from real worry. She was no better than the others. She just happened to be more unhappy at the moment.

Telanis clutched at Kratos as he caught him, stumbling back to his feet. "Still don't have your sea legs?" the other man asked.

"I guess not," Telanis said, trying to sound cheerful, but his smile failed and he looked at Kratos with heavy eyes. He wondered what the other man meant by strange things on board the ship, but decided to ask questions later. He had a distinct concern that Kratos might no longer trust him if he knew how ill Laya had become, but he had to tell him. "Laya needs a doctor," he said, looking to Kratos for help. The truth was he had no idea how to find a doctor, and it would be easier if he didn't have to explain the situation in front of Laya and Adonis.

Kratos frowned. "She's still ill?" he asked. Kratos steadied Telanis with his hand and stood beside him. "I'll help you find one. What are her symptoms?"

"She's...tired and in pain," Telanis tried to describe the sensations he'd picked up from her in human medical terms. He'd never needed more than his intuition to diagnose an ailment before. "It happened when I tried to heal her," he added quietly.

Kratos took in Telanis' diagnosis grimly. "but...shouldn't you be able to...?" He started asking but Telanis' expression already answered for him. Telanis couldn't heal Laya. As impossible as it seemed, it was still happening and the most important thing they could do was find a doctor that could heal her.

"We'll worry about the how and why later. Let's get her better, come now." Kratos said, trying to lift Telanis' spirits and lead him to the upper deck to find a doctor.

Telanis swayed unsteadily, staggering several times into Kratos's steady weight as they maneuvered toward the upper deck. The waves around the ship had grown rough, and overhead it looked like they might be in for a storm soon. He considered whether he should explain who Adonis was, but decided to keep it to himself. It was possible his brother was the only way to heal Laya....in fact, it was probable. They came to a room with a cross on the door that signified that it was the physician's ward. Telanis didn't recognize the symbol, but he looked at the door and at Kratos. "Is this the right place?"

Kratos looked up at the holy symbol and nodded. Only a doctor would turn to the gods for guidance in their profession. Kratos rapped on the door softly, and when they received no reply he rapped harder. A gruff voice welcomed them in, the person inside sounded as if he had just awakened.

When they entered the room the doctor was rubbing his eyes and lighting a candle. "Yes, yes?" he greeted them. He was a young man with blonde hair and green eyes, but he had long, pointed ears. He was an elf.

"We need a doctor," Kratos said bluntly. The elf walked over to them and began examining Telanis.

"He's just clumsy, he doesn't look ill."

"Not him, a woman. She's still within her room." Elf made a sound in his throat and nodded, he picked up his bag then followed the two back to Laya's room.

"Alright," the doctor said as they re-entered Laya's room. The docotr took one look at Laya and took pity on her. To him she just looked sea-sick. "My name is Lethor, I'm a doctor." He said gently and knelt by her side. "How do you feel, can you describe your ills to me?"

Laya was shivering, from freezing and the fact her whole body was being ravaged by pain. "It hurts," was all she could really manage for a moment as she blinked away tears. "I feel so cold... and so tired... and my body hurts so much..."

She wanted to get under the covers, but was too tired to do so. She just laid there with her head resting on hte pillow. Her brown hair fell over the pillow, cascading down and off the side of the bed. Her grey eyes were stormy, as if inside her eyes lied another world that was covered in thick black storm clouds swirlling around.

Telanis stared at Laya anxiously, tormented by the suffering he was unable to alleviate. "Please, please!" he thought at his brother, "You can't really bear to watch this..." Adonis's mind was like a stone wall repelling all outside thought.

Adonis felt his brother trying to speak to him and turned away, his own mind blurred by his protective instincts despite the fact that he was enlightened to how corrupt and worthless humans were. Still, he couldn't bear the atmosphere in that room. He turned and left, walking outside into the corridor.

No sooner had he gotten to the end of the walkway than a heavy form suddenly latched onto him from behind, binding his arms behind his back and dragging him forward. He looked over his shoulder in alarm to find a large human man with rusty hair smiling at him darkly. "Sorry, milad, but you're going to help us," he grinned. Adonis struggled fiercely, but a calloused hand pulled hard on his hair, yanking his head back and taking the muscle out of his fight. He wouldn't have tried to call out for assistance, even if his mouth had been gagged; apparently the man was not the least concerned about being conspicuous.

"Attention all crew and passengers," a strong voice from the deck drifted down through the porthole in Laya's room a minute later, "All that glitters on this ship now belongs to us! All of you get your asses up on deck, unarmed. We have a prisoner here. Don't try anything funny," the voice roared. "You have sixty seconds!"

Laya's eyes froze in fear as she looked up at Telanis, the voice filling her ears. She was afraid of what was going on. She was afraid of what was happening to her. This wasn't turning out to be a very good day.

Who was there hostage?

"We have to go up there..."

Telanis looked at Kratos uncertainly, not quite grasping the situation. "We have to go up to the deck?" he asked, his silvery voice confused and sensing that something was wrong.

Kratos feelt split into protecting his sister who still slept soundly in her room, and protecting the people and his friends on the ship. They couldn't move Laya, as far as he knew, and the doctor glared at the wall muttering at how this was wonderful timing for treating a paitent.

Kratos eventually nodded, "I'd...rather not risk any lives." he said regretfully.

"But my paitent cannot be moved!" Lethor defended.

"It can't be helped!" Kratos was angry and unnerved. Neko came then into the room, awoken by the racket.

"Well, those men are going to have to let her be an expection for she is in no condition to go up deck!" Neko declared proudly. Kratos and Neko glared at each other, their positions at what was to be done warring with each other. Before they could make a decision though, one of the pirates barged into and ordered them all out.

Laya shook violently as she raised her weaken body up to a sitting position. She sighed. "I'm going up on deck. I don't want to be the cause of deaths and there is no way I'm staying down here by myself..." She couldn't help but imagine what might happen to her in her weakened state. She stood up, and her knees buckled slightly.

Telanis stared at the pirate and looked back at Laya. They didn't have much choice. He reached out to Laya and steadied her, easily supporting her weight. The doctor stepped in quickly and took over, not trusting the clumsy silver-haired man after seeing him stagger all around the ship, although Telanis certainly didn't appear weak. At swordpoint, the group was herded up onto the deck, where the rest of the ship had already gathered. Ten or eleven armed pirates were patrolling the group, making sure no one stepped out of line. At the bow of the ship, another pirate held a lean form captive, a sword pressed harshly to his neck.

Adonis breathed unevenly, furious that he'd been trapped by a human. He curled his throat as far as possible away from the blade, but it only followed, hugging close to his bare skin.

"We'll be searching the ship now for your valuables. If you have anything on you, throw it forward now. If you don't, and we find it later, we'll gut you like fish!" one of the pirates declared. A shower of coins and jewels slowly scattered onto the deck amidst groans of frustration from the passengers.
